I have one each LionEnergy Safari 1200 and 1300 batteries, 90Ah and 105Ah capacity. I would like to use them in series for a 24V battery bank. I will rarely go below 50% SOC. Is this going to cause problems for me down the line or are they close enough to play well together?

I think you would be ok in parallel but series is not a good option.

In series the smaller battery will drain first and then go under voltage and fail.

You might be able find a BMS that could shut the whole thing down if one of the cells(battery in this case) drops to low. Not sure if this is an option but is the only safe way I can think of.

Good luck.

I think it would be ok, but I would call lion... get manufacturer recommendations...

You can technically do it. You will get the capacity of the smallest cells and the cells won’t stay balanced well while charging and discharging. I wouldn’t recommend it. I know you said you won’t drain it down much but if you did you would rely heavily on the BMS to protect the smaller battery since it will drain to minimum voltage before the entire 24v pack will reach a low voltage condition.

@BobG, I contacted Lion directly last November with this question and they stated that you cannot put a UT 1200 in series with a UT 1300. (They said you can put a 1200 in parallel with a 1300 without issue, but that doesn't help with your 24V goal.)

One the charge cycle the small one is going to top off while the other is still charging and the small on will receive more voltage then might be safe.
