Solar Panel for 48V (Will 59.6V work?)

Hello everyone, I just noticed a Panasonic HIT 340W panel over on the Alt-E store. It's VOC 72v with VMP 59.6v. In Will's video "48v Solar Power System for Beginners: Lower Cost and More Power!" he recommends 60v. Is the VMP of 59.6v "close, but no carrot?" or will it work? I'm intending to use a Victron 48v MPPT. Batteries are Battleborn.

Thanks, Peter

You need to check your SSC specifications for the voltage ranges, post the victron specs here

OK I input all the specifications (full disclosure I didn't enter in the 3 temperature related fields) and it popped up Victron MPPT controller I was planning to use. Does this mean it will work though? As in, actually charge the bank? Or does it mean the controller will be happy connected to the panel but might not actually do any charging? Going back to my original question, I'm wondering when Will suggests 60V panel to charge 48V is 59.6V close enough or was 60V pushing it (absolute minimum)?

Yes of course it will work.
Do you think Victron would allow you to see a non working panel combination for the SCC's they specify?
That would be a blank result.
60 volt panels is just a vague description of panels of a certain number of cells.
59 6 volts is a 60 volt panel.
You can use so called 12 volt panels connected in Series to charge a 48 volt battery with a MPPT controller.
As long as the panels combined voltage is within the MPPTs input voltage range it will work.
How many panels are you using?

1 panel. Note that if I enter in 50v VOC and VMP it still recommends that controller. That doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

What controller model is recommended? .
Each controller has a range of voltages and amps it works with.
Controllers work at more than one voltage number and amps.
You did not post your panels short circuit and max power amps specs

SmartSolar 100/20-48v (linked above).

The panel has short circuit current 6.13A and maximum current 5.7A (also linked above)

Other information - Absorption voltage range for for Battleborn is 14.4 - 14.6 with 14.6 recommended setting for charge controller. So I'm calculating that's 57.6-58.4V for a 48v setup with 58.4V recommended.
