IMG_2167.jpegIMG_2167.jpegI built this as an off grid system for my office, I have a 4.4kw solar system mounted on the roof. The issue I’m having is I need to add another inverter so it can handle the a/c and water heater without overloading. My question is do both inverters need to be connected to the PV array? My array is set up in 5S 2P configuration combining with a Y combiner and a single set of pv wires going to the inverter.

PV is one thing they don't share. They do need to share everything else: grid, load, battery
Thanks. Just so I’m clear when you say grid. Do they both need to be connected to the grid for a/c charging? Obviously right now I only have one run from the main panel to the inverter, I don’t use that feature a lot maybe twice in three months. Also as far as the load, my plan is to have them go to the same load center with there own double pull 50amp breaker. Should I be doing something different as far as the load goes?

Don't know. The inverter may assume sharing the grid charging duties. Especially when you get to larger battery banks that may exceed a single inverter's ability to charge.

That should work for connecting to load.

Run a line to each inverter from the grid and that will allow charging by both units and pass through to your critical load’s panel in the sbu mode
