Long time no talk, which is a good thing because my solar has been running flawlessly. However I have the opportunity to purchase a 2015 Nissan leaf EV for next to nothing. There are almost zero details on the vehicle other than it seems to be in very good condition. It is a police impound auction and I am in part of the country where almost no one has the knowledge to fix it. I have no interest in the vehicle other than the cells in the battery pack. My current setup is a 24v 8 cell 280ah pack made from AliExpress cells and a current connected BMS. I'd be building this new pack for my bus. I have some familiarity with building a system as I built the first one and it's running awesome. My question is has anyone taken the cells from one of these packs and built an effective system? Ideally I'd want to double my current size (way overpowered I know). This basically fell into my lap unexpectedly and I have less than 24 hours to commit.

The Leaf batteries are generally on the smaller side of EV packs. The price of new LiFePO4 prismatic cells has fallen a lot recently and will continue to fall. I would just caution you not to over pay.

I can probably get the whole car for $400-500

The BMS I use - Batrium. Got its start in reusing those kind of packs. (The Batrium would cost more than the car -wow)! You may want to figure out what bms and what the packs look like before committing. Some are easy to reconfigure to a 48-ish pack - others are not.

Yeah I should've included that in my original post. 48 cells! That's insane lol

I think I'm out just based on the weight alone. I don't have the ability to move around a 650 pound battery much less get it out of the car.
