I'm posting this in general help to see if this a general type of issue during freezing nights.

Our eg4 6000ex failed last night. I had to restart the system for the first time in almost a year of deployment. The error prior to restarting system was the fault code 51 (over current or surge) . This may have been the first time our temperature got below 20F outside. The main power draw is our septic system which normally uses about 500 to 600 watts. Any idea of what could have caused this?

Seems like it is a VOC issue. Cold weather increases the VOC of your solar panels.

Probably not VOC as the issue occurred at night. I have a 6000ex in my garage and it has been down to 14 degrees the last few nights and I haven't had any problems. Running between 500 - 900 watts continuously. I've been more concerned about battery temperatures, really.

Per the manual operating temperature range: 14°F to 122°F (-10°C to 50°C)

A septic system that uses power? Like a grinder pump moving effluent to the lateral field?

Could the output of the pump been frozen?

The low temperature might be a red herring. Maybe the stars aligned just right with other loads starting the same time and you really did have an overcurrent error.

aerobic septic aerators

I think there may have been a loss of power for 10 minutes or so.. the inverter should have been utilizing battery power exclusively at that time. Not sure why any input surge did not trip the input breaker but caused 6000ex to fault
