    inverter/generator or AIO recommendation

This part does not sound right. Victron is the only inverter I know of that can boost input AC (generator or grid) to supplement weak AC input. ALL inverter/chargers pass through the incoming AC power to loads and charge with the surplus. Inverter/chargers can do both... but not at the same...

    inverter/generator or AIO recommendation

I have an off grid 40 in northern MN. I was given 1600 watts of panels and a Midnite Solar Kid charge controller. I need to buy a 48 volt battery bank and an inverter/charger or an AIO. The biggest load I would like to run is a stick welder that runs fine on 240 volts and 20 amps of grid power...

Hey everyone, another new idiot to solar mastery

oops, forgot to mention the 30% tax credit on your federal tax return for solar components purchased and installed in 2024. Take 30% of what you spent on solar components directly off the amount of tax you owe.

Hey everyone, another new idiot to solar mastery

Sounds like you are in about the same boat I'm in except I don't intend to charge an electric vehicle off solar and my system will be off grid. I too want to do a solar system as cheaply as possible and was gifted six 265 watt panels and a Midnite Solar Kid 30 amp charge controller. I want to...

    Battery C rate

I'm trying to figure out what type of battery for the off grid solar system. As I understand it the C rate is a measure of how fast a battery can accept a charge and how fast it can discharge? LiFePO4 batteries have a C rate of 1 while lead acid have a significantly lower rating. Does this mean...

    I'm new - question LV6548 120VAC input to 240VAC output

I am going to set up a solar system this spring on my off grid property. I have gone deep into the weeds researching some of these inverter chargers. These are not charge controller all in ones, just inverters and built in battery chargers from shore power or a genny. A single Schneider SW or...

Has anyone mounted panels at 90deg inclination (vertical)?

I plan to put my 6 solar panels on the wall of my barn that faces SSE. There is about a 1 foot overhang so I will put them low enough that they won't be in shadow when the sun is highest on June 22. I would like to make a rack hinged on the top to the barn wall so the panels can be tilted during...

    Schneider Conext SW 4048

from their user's manual Split-phase output during invert mode and AC bypass The Conext SW always yields a split-phase output when inverting and during AC bypass. • A split-phase input through L1 and L2 yields a split-phase output of L1 and L2. • Single-phase input through L1 yields a...

    Schneider Conext SW 4048

Thanks for the help. I can hook the Insight home to the SW4048 by a cable and use WiFi to hook my cell phone or tablet up to monitor ans set up the system. Just needed a translator to explain. Anyone know of any other inverter charger that can input 120 volt from a genny and output 240 volt to...

    Schneider Conext SW 4048

From their brochure Conext SW inverter/charger features • The integrated auto-transformer allows the use of an on-site single phase (120Vac) generator to provide input power to the Conext SW inverter and create a split phase output power (120/240Vac North America only). This is what I find...

    Schneider Conext SW 4048

I have an off grid 40 that I put my camper on and built a barn. I live there summers. Cabin as soon as I can afford it. I currently use a 3000 watt generator to run a 1/2 hp well pump, a 5000 BTU AC, a table saw, and assorted tools. I was gifted six 265 watt solar panels and a Midnite Solar Kid...

    Shading panels

I am going to put up six 265 watt panels this spring. They will be 2 strings of 3 panels wired in series and the strings wired in parallel. Will the production of one of the strings be muted if part of the other string is in shade? The answer will determine if I position one string to the side...

If buying land would you say south facing is essential for solar and/or are there other decent power options besides solar?

I too am a newbie. I currently have a small solar system set up facing SE because that's where there is a clear view of the sky. I don't think it would be much better if I could face it straight S because as the sun moves across the sky the panels wouldn't get much more sun. Maybe I'm being...

How do you deal with freezing rain, or crusty snow that can't be brushed off?

Jeff mentioned an ice scraper to clear the panels. We use one on the truck windows but they are glass. Aren't most solar panels some sort of plastic? Wouldn't an ice scraper damage them?

    Need help choosing 48v all-in-one

The Aims 24 volt 4000 watt inverter charger is 120 volt output and 120 volt input from the grid or a genny. When you move to 48 volt the 2000 watt inverter charger is 120 volt in and out but the 4000 watt is 120/240 out and 240 only in. My genny is 120 and I'm off grid. I can't hook up my genny...

    Need help choosing 48v all-in-one

I am a newbie to solar. I was gifted 1580 watts of solar panels and a Midnite solar Kid charge controller. I have been researching this so I can set up a system on my off grid property in MN (also -40) this spring. The Kid is maxed out with 48 volt battery bank. I have looked through this...

My generator does not recharge my Lithium batteries but shore power does!

I thought that the power produced by a gas/propane generator was pure sine wave. The problem is total harmonic distortion. I have had to adjust the governor on my 3000 watt screamer generator to get the proper 60 Hz frequency and 120 volts. A killawatt type meter will tell you these values.

    Newbi off grid

Thank you for replying. As stated money is very tight. I already have the panels, charge controller, and AC unit. No money to buy others. The question remains, are the cheap pure sine wave inverters any good and will they provide enough surge to start the compressor in the AC? Will the system...

    Newbi off grid

The long term goal is to have an off grid homestead. I have made the following progress so far; I paid cash for an off grid 40 in north central MN, I hammered in a sandpoint and power it with a genny, I put in a propane fired hot water heater so I have hot showers, I built a barn, and I have a...
