Another thread about fuses! But different.

No lithium batteries. The fuse would be between the DC power supply unit and the separately fused camera loads.

Another thread about fuses! But different.

I'm building a control cabinet for my security camera system, it's all 12 volt (Yes, I know I should have gone POE, but the cameras I had purchased were all externally 12 volt powered), so to save money I went with those and ran my relatively small house with 12 gauge wire and cat5e to power...

What is the fifth tap on this transformer for?

I figured out the problem, the high voltage coil is shorted / broken somewhere, which is why I wasn't able to get continuity from that terminal to anywhere else. That also explains why the magnetron stopped working. Thanks for the help guys.

Need some suggestions...HVAC/heat pump, heat strips & solar

My system is not able to run my HVAC, so I have a cheap window unit that I keep around for when the power goes out in the summer. During the day I put it in the living room, and at night it goes into the bedroom. It doesn't keep the whole house cool, but it keeps it livable. It's not really a...

Looks like the forum has been hacked :(

Xenforo has all kinds of addom spam filters. I can't find the link for it right now, but there's one that you can try out, it's just slider bars that increase or decrease the sensitivity to inappropriate content/spam based on keywords. The one I'm thinking of is specifically called "showcase...

The US government opens 22 million acres of federal lands to solar

I have mixed emotions about this. Solar is a good thing, but if it involves taking away public hunting land to get it, I'm not a big fan. I wonder how many panels a misplaced .30-30 shot would ruin. Public lands are already shrinking enough as it is, not to mention the deals they have with...

    Per-Cell BMS Cost?

These are just my best guess based on recollection. I also built this system a few years ago, so prices might have changed. -For a 2p4s (8 cell) 12 volt system- -My BMS was about $100 -10 gauge silicone copper wire was about $50 for the amount I needed (I used multiple conductors run in...

NH fuse in parallel?? aka NH knife blade fuse aka DIN NH blade fuse

While paralleling fuses can be done, it is not usually recommended. I saw this question answered a while back on here, and somebody demonstrated how the failure of a single fuse can create problems with the others.

Need some suggestions...HVAC/heat pump, heat strips & solar

I know this comment isn't directly on topic, but another option is to heat with gas or wood. Depending on where you live, wood can be free, and it's relatively inexpensive to heat with propane or natural gas (especially considering they cost of inverter and batteries it would need). I'm able to...

What is the fifth tap on this transformer for?

I wasn't able to get any continuity between that wire and the frame, although it's entirely possible that that's why the microwave broke in the first place. If that's the high voltage tap, what are the two tabs underneath of the red wires that are connected to an additional coil for? Is there...

What is the fifth tap on this transformer for?

I took apart a microwave, because it's not in my nature to throw anything broken away without disassembling it and seeing how it works first. Don't worry, I have absolutely no intention of powering it up. I'm going to use the copper coils for another project instead. Here's the transformer...

    UPS alternatives?

I think it's also worth noting that I have added external fans to every one of my UPS's. The transformers in those things get ridiculously hot, and I'm surprised the manufacturer doesn't have a fan in them. The transformer temps were approaching 150° f, I added the fan, and now it hovers around...

    UPS alternatives?

Honestly, without having the board in front of me I couldn't tell you much. The most simple way to do it is to add a diode to the charging circuit. Power can come back to the system, but not go into the battery. However, that only works on some UPS's, others will read the battery at 0 volts and...

    UPS alternatives?

I've modified a few UPS's to take lithium batteries. I disabled the charging circuit, and charge them externally with a lithium charger.

    Insurance and DIY Battery banks

I also contacted my insurance company directly to ask about my DIY battery bank. I was told by representative that there shouldn't be any coverage issues. He said to read the coverage guide to my plan, and if it is not specifically excluded, it is included. The booklet mentions nothing about...

Are these LF280k? & How many amps are stock bus bars rated for?

Getting a refund might be a little tricky, but you can always report the seller for fraudulent listings. Vendors that sell counterfeit items to unsuspecting people make Alibaba look bad, and they actually will occasionally suspend their vendor account.

    Tesla CyberFlop

There's also something to be said about their business philosophy, and not using proprietary parts. Even if you only save 10% in gas, you probably save a bit on maintenance not having to deal with manufacturers, especially if you're a DIY kind of guy. I'm an optimist, and I can only hope that...

Any WIFI battery voltage monitors? -- NOT BLUETOOTH

You could also use a Bluetooth monitor with a PC app, and login remotely. Google desktop makes it really easy if you have Windows and an Android. I'm sure Apple has something similar. That's how I run my security cameras, I can just check them through Google desktop, rather than setting up a...

I'm pretty sure that's more or less what it started with. I'm pretty sure he's still works as a log truck driver in Canada. You guys should check out Edison motors. They're a startup based in Canada run by a truck driver, they're building hybrid-electric logging vehicles, that actually seem to be pretty well done. Maybe at some point they'll start working on a smaller truck too. I also like their philosophy, they...

How to measure state of charge with lifepo4?

In my opinion, it's very difficult to determine state of charge through voltage alone. 13.6-14.4 = about full 13.2-13.3 = still have some juice left 13-13.1 = going dead Under 13 = about to die That's about as accurate as you can get with a multimeter, especially if testing while under any...

Wow, basen rack.mounts batteries destroy a home in germany

That's exactly what I thought when I read the article. Maybe a loose connection sparked or heated up, or like you said a relay triggered a spark, that then set off some other type of gas leak. There's no way one of those battery packs blew holes through concrete. A lot of houses in Germany are...

    Portable Induction Cooktop

I've also found my instapot to be an incredibly power efficient method of cooking. I can't remember the exact numbers from when I had it plugged into my meter, but if I recall, it used around 500wh total to cook a very large meal.

    DIY 'Chargenectifier'

I've used server rack power supplies to charge batteries before, they take a little bit of modifying, but they can also be put into series to stack the voltage. I paid like 30 bucks for two, used, 12 volt, 80 amp PSU's. You need to solder some wires to get it to turn on, and depending on the...

    SFK BMS

That definitely looks like a JBD to me. If you go on there AliExpress store, you can get custom ones, with custom specifications made if you buy them in bulk. All of my in use BMSs are JBD, and I have a few Dalys. Never had a single issue with the JBD's. They make a good product.

    Almost really bad.

That looks really good. Clean build. A plastic cover like that is my end goal, The wood was just for prototyping where I need all of the holes and connectors to be. I got to Dremel for Christmas, so now I can cut much more precisely, much better than a sawzall, drill and cutoff wheel.

Solar power growth is currently exponential

I've noticed the same thing even over the past couple of years. When I first started building my solar backup, it was pretty much you either buy a very expensive system, or everything is DIY. There weren't very many budget options for charge controllers, inverters, fuses, ect. Now, all that...
