Bouge RV 40A charge controller not or very low charging.

Update! They sent a shipping label for returning the old one and also sent me a new controller at the same time. I'm officially back going! Very cool that they took care of everything. I'm a happy guy and definitely still a BougeRV fan! Let's go for a ride!??

Bouge RV 40A charge controller not or very low charging.

It's for my 17' solar/electric boat project. It gets used as a weekender during the summer. I don't rely on it for anything other than boat camping and learning this stuff. I'm always playing with it, trying to make it better. Current setup is 4x100w panels, DIY 105ah 12v lifepo4 batteries and a...

Bouge RV 40A charge controller not or very low charging.

Update! I've been in contact with Bouge RV and have exchanged a few emails with pictures and screenshots. So far they have been quick, helpful and expressed they will replace the unit if it is faulty. Definitely looking like a bad controller(to me). We'll see what happens... Again, I was 100%...

Bouge RV 40A charge controller not or very low charging.

Naa, I made sure it was set for lithium. Definitely a good thought though! I'm pretty sure I've checked all the normal stuff. It's a really simple setup, not much to it. It hasn't been dropped or gotten wet. Haven't pushed it hard either. Seems odd. I've always had good luck with Bouge RV stuff...

Bouge RV 40A charge controller not or very low charging.

Alright, I've gone over everything multiple times and don't see anything I've messed up. Checked all connections, tested and swapped everything I can think of, checked settings and reset it. No fault codes and everything is "normal" but it's not charging more than 1A in full sun with a low...

Dan-O's DIY 105ah LiFePO4 cell holder springy contraption things!

Naa, I was just getting them ready for a top balance. I bought these from forum member, Michael B Caro. Super good service, price and these were already in the USA! He's a good guy to buy from if possible. ??

    Current Situation in Middle Tennessee!

Well, I ran across these Haswing brushless motors that are affordable and good quality(hopefully). I ordered the 12v "Protruar 1.0" model. Haven't tested it out yet, but it'll hopefully be a pretty good upgrade in speed and efficiency. Also, I scored some new carbon fiber props. Super thin and...

Dan-O's DIY 105ah LiFePO4 cell holder springy contraption things!

Well, thank you. No crazy tools needed. Just basic stuff and some time. You can absolutely do it and probably improve on it!??

Dan-O's DIY 105ah LiFePO4 cell holder springy contraption things!

The springs came from WB Jones. PN-283 To find the correct spring tension, there's a couple of math problems to do with the cell area and spring specs. Nothing crazy. I can't find it in my notes at the moment. These need to be compressed .187" each and .813" installed height is checked with a...

Dan-O's DIY 105ah LiFePO4 cell holder springy contraption things!

Yeah, I guess I left that part out.? I elongated the bottom bracket holes on one end and used lock nuts, left loose enough for the plate to slide back and forth.? I like your idea better. Looks awesome! ?

    Daly BMS balance cable/lead short.

So, while on the water, I accidentally shorted one of the balance cables to a negative terminal and then had zero voltage coming out of the BMS. Just a tiny little pop and I was dead in the water. Thought I had killed it that quick. Well, I searched the forum and found how to reset it by...

Dan-O's DIY 105ah LiFePO4 cell holder springy contraption things!

Just a standard 20 ton shop press with a bottle jack. Waaaay overkill, I'm sure. I'd imagine that a good bench vise would do the job just fine also. Especially if you added some heat to the copper(I didn't). I would definitely call this a "cold weld"... Edit: Would like to add, make...

Dan-O's DIY 105ah LiFePO4 cell holder springy contraption things!

Well, for whatever reason, I can't go back and edit the original post now... Oh well. Any questions, just ask and I will do my best to keep checking in.;)

Dan-O's DIY 105ah LiFePO4 cell holder springy contraption things!

Thanks guys! Fun little project! Got the braided copper from Ebay. We smashed the copper pipe some first and then put in the braid. Final smash from there! After that, I cleaned up the ends with a sanding disk and sanded everything flat using 120-220-400 grit paper on a flat table.

Thanks! Yes, shooting for 12 psi of compression on these cells. Here's a couple of links... Battery build. Cell compression using springs.

    Current Situation in Middle Tennessee!

Here's a link to one. Yeah, impossible to tell much about it... Oh, I've been looking myself. Haven't seen anything yet that I'm sold on, especially for the price for some of them. I'm confident that, while time consuming, I could build my own that will be powerful, very efficient, and a...

Oh, cool! I've spent a lot on time in Cookeville. The tops and baseplates are actually from an old SXS windshield I hacked up!:ROFLMAO:

    Current Situation in Middle Tennessee!

I'll probably build my own but I did run across these the other day and that got me thinking about taking the easy way out. I wonder about the quality, but as cheap as they are, I might get one on the way just to play with. I'm sure I wouldn't use the motor or controller, but if the "lower unit"...

    Current Situation in Middle Tennessee!

In my earlier posts you can see the motor setup. It's an MK30 with a cheap PWM, APC prop and spinner. The tiller head was just there for steering but it's gone now. I'm going to make a fairing for the motor shaft and probably cut the skeg off for more performance and efficiency but that's as far...

Here you go guys! I found out the hard way that 20 pictures is the max for one post.... It's a start and hopefully some ideas to build on using springs!

Dan-O's DIY 105ah LiFePO4 cell holder springy contraption things!

After searching the forum, robbing ideas, asking questions, and learning a couple things the hard way, this is what I came up with for my first DIY solar boat batteries. Is this the best way? Highly doubtful. This is just how I did it and I feel like it will work great for me. Maybe this will...

Pack / Cell compression Optimized By Using Springs.

Thanks guys! I can't take too much credit though. I robbed and got help for most of these ideas from this awesome forum. I'll make a separate thread with a ton of pictures and info in the next few days. Fun stuff! The only thing that was slightly difficult to come up with was the springs, but...

Pack / Cell compression Optimized By Using Springs.

Absolutely! Check out post 27,51 and 54 in this thread to start. The springs came from WB Jones(part number 283). Compressing these .187" should net ~106lbs each. The end plate bracket screws on one side, slide in elongated(baseplate) holes and are held loosely with flat washers/lock nuts. Let...

Just about to wrap this project up! I wound up buying some .75"OD x 1" OL 135lb. springs. Thanks for the help guys. I think this will work!(y)

BMS balance leads/cables. Cut to fit or equal length?

Thanks for the info! I'll make them pretty then. I like that idea better. Just on some basic Daly 4s 60a units here.

BMS balance leads/cables. Cut to fit or equal length?

I'm ready to hook up my balance leads and remember reading that keeping them equal length was best to keep resistance the same. I get that. Going to be ugly doing it that way though. What do you guys think?
  31. Electro Dan-O

Pack / Cell compression Optimized By Using Springs.

Little more progress on my project. I made some base plates and top covers out of plexiglass. Found some cool little aluminum corner brackets off of Amazon that I cleaned up. The spring side will slide in elongated holes in the base plate. I think that should hold everything together nicely and...

Pack / Cell compression Optimized By Using Springs.

Some goodies showed up so I've made a little progress. 5/16-24 stainless for the rods. Also, made insulators out of .030" plexiglass to keep things solid. I'm leaning towards just buying new springs and being done with it. Any ideas? If I did my math right on these 105ah EVE cells(5-1/8"x7-3/4")...

Insulation material between aluminum case cells.

I decided to use thin(.030") plexiglass that I got from an old picture frame that was heading to the trash. I polished them and the cells with automotive wax to hopefully keep friction down. I feel good about it.:)
  34. Electro Dan-O

Pack / Cell compression Optimized By Using Springs.

Gosh, I didn't even think about "the board on the left". You're 100% right...:ROFLMAO: Springs on the rods is the plan then. I like that better anyway! No, I have some carbon fiber cloth left over from other projects that I think would be cool to use on the ends. Mostly for cosmetics, but added...

Pack / Cell compression Optimized By Using Springs.

Let's do this! 5/16-24 SS rods and hardware are ordered and I started hacking on the wood plates tonight. Hopefully you guys can see from the picture what's going on in my head. Initial thought was to use four springs behind the smaller plate to evenly load the "face" of the cell vs. having the...
