    Can't get JBD BMS to work

    It seems to be working now. I have no idea what I did to get it to work. The only thing that comes to mind is that the cells were up at 3.6v from doing the top balance a day or two ago. Is it possible that this triggered some kind of shutdown?? But surely the BMS would still have let me in. And...

    Can't get JBD BMS to work

    Yes, those wires are hooked up, and the B- and C-. I bench tested the battery with a tiny load and it came to life. But at that stage I hadn't tried connecting to the BMS. After installing it, I couldn't get the app to work with the BMS, but I could tell from looking at the other BMS that it...

    Can't get JBD BMS to work

    It doesn't have a light, it's just a little white block of plastic. The blue light on the main BMS comes on.

    Can't get JBD BMS to work

    It's showing zero for everything- capacity, charge rate, etc. Simply was not recognising the BMS. Since then, it has sprung in to life, no idea why. The Overkill app will find my old BMS, but not the new one. The Xiaoxiang electric app will now find the new one, but it doesn't give me individual...

    Epever MPPT showing no battery voltage

    Interestingly, I was getting 5v on the solar input. One of my four panels is not easily disconnected and I'd covered the panel instead. I was surprised that it was still able to generate a little power. But it is very sunny here- I'm in Grenada.

    Epever MPPT showing no battery voltage

    Hence the use of the term 'nominal'. If it matters, these panels are 17v pmax. There's four, wired in parallel. This part of the system has been working perfectly for two years. Have done. I'm running out of options that don't include it being damaged.

    Epever MPPT showing no battery voltage

    Two batteries in parallel, both with BMS. I've been having trouble with one of them (see other thread) which is why I was messing about. But the system is powered up with the old battery which is working perfectly. There's also a second MPPT for the other set of panels, and it's working as well.

    Epever MPPT showing no battery voltage

    It's an Epever XTRA 4110N-XDS2 Panel voltage is 12v nominal.

    Epever MPPT showing no battery voltage

    I've been making a few changes to my system and may have briefly disconnected the MPPT from the battery, whilst the panels were still connected. The screen on the MPPT is now flashing on and off and displaying zero volts for the battery. Wires are all connected and breaker is on. Have I just...

    Can't get JBD BMS to work

    I've just built a 4S pack with a 200A JBD. This is my second build, and my third JBD (I previously upgraded from 120A to 200A on my first project). I noticed that the new battery is offline. I cannot get my original Xiaoxiang app to connect to the new battery. I've downloaded a different app...

    BMS has pairs of terminals. How to connect?

    I'm building a 4S 280Ah bank using a 200A JBD BMS. Unlike my previous project, the BMS has two M5 holes for connection on each side. I'll be using 70mm² cable, connecting to the single stud on the battery, and to the shunt on the other side. Do I: - ignore one of the terminals and just run a...

    PV->hot water

    Looks like a solar diverter is a fairly simple way to achieve what I need. I'm considering this model: https://coolenergyshop.com/products/cool-energy-solar-power-diverter

    PV->hot water

    But that would presumably mean buying a new tank, with a coil in it? Mine only has immersion elements.

    That's the website I've been using, but I don't see anywhere that it tells me peak output?

    PV->hot water

    Thanks, that's really helpful. A related question: using basic geometry I *think* my proposed 6kw array would only be able to output 25A max (at 240v) because it would be on the E/W slopes of a 42⁰ pitched roof, at a latitude of 58⁰N. Or am I oversimplifying things? The diverter I'm considering...

    PV->hot water

    I'm not really interested in solar thermal because AFAIK I'd need a new tank- my (relatively new) UVC is twin immersion, no coil.

    PV->hot water

    Not sure. I'm in the UK. I'm aware that anything above 4kw needs DNO approval if you wish to export. Obviously I'll get an electrician in if that's required.

    PV->hot water

    No sorry it's not off grid, I didn't word it very clearly! I *currently* live off grid, on a boat. Just mentioning that to show that I do have some familiarity with PV. But I'm moving back to my house, which is on grid, and want to add PV there. I currently heat the water using direct electric...

    PV->hot water

    I'd like to add PV to my house. I think I've got a lot to learn, although I do know some of the basics as I built a 1.2kw system on my boat already. At it's most basic, can I install some panels, a grid tie inverter, and a diverter, to use solar to heat a tank of water? Are there any other...

    271Ah + 60Ah?

    Right I'm going to go ahead with this. Can somebody double check my plan? The small battery can only charge at 30A max, so I'm going to install a 30A fuse. But the whole system can draw up to 200A, so I'm risking that fuse blowing under heavy load. Of course the vast bulk of the current is...

    271Ah + 60Ah?

    I'm running a 4S 271Ah bank, built from bare cells and using a 200A JBD BMS. Very happy with it, only thing is, it's a bit smaller than I need. Charging is from solar only, using two MPPTs that top out at about 45A max. I also have a little Sterling 60Ah drop-in with integral BMS. It's non...

    Aili battery monitor showing high discharge current

    Aha! I hadn't stopped the little 'h'! All solved now, thank you ?

    Aili battery monitor showing high discharge current

    Update: I hadn't fully uncoiled the cable. Unplugged and uncoiled, and now getting a realistic reading. However I have a second problem. I'm unable to change the capacity from the default 100Ah; a three second press on the Ah/Set button doesn't do anything.

    Aili battery monitor showing high discharge current

    I've finally got round to adding a monitor to my 4S system. It seems to think I have a discharge current of around 220A, when in fact the system is, as I write, charging at about 4A, according to the BMS, as we approach sunset. Any suggestions? Duff unit, bad connection somewhere? Or is there...

    Opening up a battery to upgrade BMS

    Yes I'm tempted to do something like that, the problem is how to make it robust and weatherproof for a portable battery used on a small boat.

    Opening up a battery to upgrade BMS

    For a bit more background, I use this battery with a trolling motor. Not knowing what state of charge it's at is a real practical downside.

    Opening up a battery to upgrade BMS

    I've got a Sterling Power 60Ah 'drop in' battery. It's usefulness is limited because the inbuilt BMS doesn't have Bluetooth. I also have a spare 120A JBD, as I just upgraded another battery which I built from cells. What are the chances that I could open up the Sterling and swap out the BMS? I...

    recomendations for uk sources of compression foam?

    I don't know how much help this is, but I used rigid underlay, sold for laminate flooring. It's pretty stiff with decent compression strength. I had a bunch left over from flooring my kitchen. Two years later my pack seems happy enough.

    Basic layout questions

    Hi everyone My system has grown quite messy and it's time to rethink and start again. I have a long narrow space in which to fit my LFP pack, inverter, and all the busbars etc. So everything has to go in a line (the space is only ~50cm high but 1.5m long). There's a couple of MPPTs to fit in...

    About to rewire... what about the ground??

    Thanks. Maybe I'm worrying about nothing. It's a fibreglass boat and I'm not really a big fan of bonding stuff together unless necessary.

    About to rewire... what about the ground??

    My boat has a pretty basic shore power system with a 16A connection, a breaker, and then a few 240v sockets around the cabins. I don't believe there is any sort of ground to any part of the boat itself. I've also got a Victron Phoenix inverter (not an inverter charger) which currently just has...

    EPever IPower Plus Inverter- any good?

    I promised to update after a few months of use, and forgot. So... I'm afraid it's not good news. The Epever inverter worked perfectly in daily use for about nine months, driving loads up to about half its rated output. Then one day the BMS shut down due to over-current (120A limit) and...

    Victron Phoenix in parallel?

    I never really charge from anything except solar, so for me the extra cost of the multiplus would just have been a waste.
