Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

Just an update as this is my pseudo build thread. My ultimate goal with this build was to use the van without hookups and have effective AC that I could run overnight without little difficulty. Over the past week, I installed the Proair 20,000 btu undermount AC system I purchased from...

    4s4p 12v BMS options?

For what it’s worth, I have a 4s4p system with 16 280 ah cells from Amy Wan in a van build. I used the rec bms with Tyco contactors and it’s been working great after some tweaking.

    DC Air Conditioner (minisplit/rooftop/anything)

Don’t really care about cutting edge efficiency with 1180 amp hours of battery. I just wanted to have as much cooling as possible and be under mounted as I have a pop top and no room for anything on the roof. Also, I don’t like the look of a mini split mounted on the back or sides and have read...

another dreaded alternator charge lithium thread

For what it’s worth, I had a lead acid battery in my Promaster based Hymer Aktiv Ecotrek system from the factory for this very reason and when I ripped out the stock system, I kept the lead acid battery to keep the protection as the alternator is my sole source of charging.

    DC Air Conditioner (minisplit/rooftop/anything)

The unit is not manufactured by Truma, but by Proair. It was designed exclusively for Roadtrek before they went bankrupt. This reseller purchased all of the remaining stock when Roadtrek was liquidated. It features a 12 v Benling compressor that is used by multiple 12 v ac manufacturers. The kit...

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

Finally got everything installed and reinstalled the oem cabinet. Everything seems to be working correctly. I’m still waiting to see how much cooling I need before fabricating a front cabinet cover.

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

That is the inverter and unfortunately I don’t have a schematic, but I basically used the rec bms system with wakespeed and victron compatibility. Their schematic is below and mine is essentially the same except with the wakespeed alternator and no solar. As far as the 80/20 goes, I took...

Van - 12v, 14kwh lifepo4. Help needed for diagram review.

If you’re looking for a way to arrange your cells, I built a new battery system in my Hymer Aktiv based on the same Promaster with 16 280 ah cells.

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

Got the majority of system installed, but I still have to clean up and label the wiring. I have aluminum/hdpe bars that will go across the cells locking them into place. Still waiting on a few fuses before going live this weekend.

    4s4p 12v BMS options?

I’m about to run a 4p4s system with 16 280 ah cells with the rec active. I set it up preliminarily and it seems to be working fine.

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

Sounds good. Haven’t researched too much about upgrading the wires, but I planned on using 12 gauge wire with ring terminals and connecting them to the stock banana connectors.

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

Not yet, but I’ve got them ready. My dc power supply comes tomorrow and I’m ready to just sit on them for the next week or so while they balance. Probably should charge in series and finish in parallel to save time though. I may change gears later, but I’ll be pretty busy with work over the...

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

Batteries finally made it from China via Amy on the forums. Made some bus bars that I’m not super happy with and test wired them with the REC BMS and everything seems to be working. Next up is to connect the cells in parallel and top balance them. I’ll also be removing the existing electrical...

    elongated bus bars

Appreciate the compliment! It took some doing to get everything to fit the space I had with the wheel well jutting into the middle of the space. I was lucky the multiplus with its new form factor and the eve cells fit so perfectly. Hardly an inch to spare in all directions!

    elongated bus bars

My new Eve 280 ah battery cells from Amy Wan have finally cleared customs and should be at my door tomorrow. I purchased 16 and confirmed that she only sent me 16 bus bars. I'm planning a 4p4s configuration for my bank and will be making my own bus bars out of copper bars purchased on Ebay...

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

Well, I started by build by ripping out my rear cabinet and keeping the “shell” minus the front fascia. Then I built a 80/20 frame based on the measurements. I ran out of material before I could finish the battery tray and multiplus mount though. New extrusion pieces will be coming in Monday...

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

They are not in parallel as stated in the original post. Feel free to private message me if you need further details if you have a sincere interest in helping rather than making useless negative comments. I will update this post with your advice in this thread afterwards to help others that find...

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

Do you actually have specific recommendations based on the information presented? What I really want to know is what specific aspect of my new build you would have changed in the interest of not being a "huge waste of money". Let me know if you need any additional information about my old/new...

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

Your original post of "Sounds like a huge waste of money." before you changed it to the above was not helpful. Your earlier post on this thread on Monday of not knowing what a Balmer actually regulates indicates to me you don't have much experience with this kind set up. I could be mistaken...

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

FYI, I decided to replace the majority of the electrical systems and have purchased the new Victron Multiplus, Cerbo with touch display, REC Active BMS, Wakespeed regulator, and 16 280 ah cells from Amy. I'll update the thread as I move forward, but should have everything but the batteries by...

Replacing my Hymer camper van’s lithium batteries. Plug and play?

I have a question I hope someone can help me with answering. I have a 2019 Hymer Aktiv Loft edition with two 200ah Ecotrek lithium batteries. The battery bank is charged via a second 280 amp Nations alternator with a MC614 Balmer regulator. The system also has a proprietary Voltstart automatic...

Is this option cost effective for a camper van?

That makes sense. The 280Ah eve cells are so cheap that I guess I’ll go that way as well. Do you know anything about alternator charging?

Is this option cost effective for a camper van?

I see that you have the eve cells, which are much cheaper, but per Will’s video comparing all the options, he prefers the fortune cells for mobile use given the stronger terminals. They cost around $115 per 100 ah 3.2 v cell, which would cost around $460 for 100 ah at 12v vs the big battery...

Is this option cost effective for a camper van?

I have a Hymer Aktiv Loft, which has 400 ah of lipo4 batteries under their proprietary Ecotrek system, which are stored in the undercarriage of the van and are unheated. They are charged by the Nations starter 280 amp alternator, which is aided by the Balmer MC-614H controller. No solar. I’m...
