    MASSIVE Overpaneling -MPPT input current

the components are faster to respond to over current, The fuse just interrupts and prevents a fire. The MPPt have an internal but its not replaceable as the componenets will already be blown. Just to prevent fire/further damage.

Worried about Voc on Victron CC

The lower voltage panels are much more expensive (per watt) than house panels (35-40V)

    16S JBD BMS in parallel

I want two 16S batteries in parallel, each with their own BMS. I like the JBD bms and wish to use ones with both UART and RS485 connections. I want to use the UART for the Bluetooth and RS485 for Victron Venus OS using louisvdw dbus driver. The model i am looking at is AP21S004. The only...

    JK BMS 8-17s 100amp won’t initialize

Its for 8 to 17 cells. I imagine if it could work with 4 cells then it would be called a 4s-17s bms. These bms power themselves from the balance leads so there is that.

Too late to top balance with BMS?

For cable sizes? I use BS7671 tables. And experience.

Too late to top balance with BMS?

The current is low - so no. It finds it’s equilibrium. Even at 4.5A you will be getting 0.2V drop on 1metre cables. 60A requires 10mm2 even at a very short length. Thicker is obviously better.

Too late to top balance with BMS?

I just converted 18awg to mm2. Yes thats way too small. 60A would want 10mm2 cables. The voltage drop on the cables is throttling the current. I would still use the bms to charge the cells first though,

Too late to top balance with BMS?

But its only done about 7A average? Sounds like fraudulent specs. It might benefit from better cables.

Deciding to DIY my solar battery was one of my worst mistakes ever

Possibly you’ve over complicated it? Can be as simple as lining the cells up, crimping rings on the balance leads, placing the busbars and screwing them all down.

Too late to top balance with BMS?

Jk bms can probably manage a 12S battery, depends on model. Depends if you have a charger that will do 36V. Victron smartsolar will for example.

How much faster is top balancing cells individually?

If you discount the time connecting and disconnecting it should be quicker. When top balancing groups of cells you always have to wait for the slowest cell to get to the top. Also it could be said that theres a detrimental effect to holding the other cells near the top voltage for long periods...

Advice on buying 12V LiFePO4 in Europe?

The cabling for the 12/3000 is massive. That and the mppt aspect is why i would have advised 24V

Advice on buying 12V LiFePO4 in Europe?

Interesting. 12V is a bit low for 3000W. Wonder why they didn’t want you to go to 24V

Ive had solar for a year and now the utility company charges a demand fee... not cool.

So using your batteries to shave off the peaks is the way to go I suppose

Is that usage by the house, or just usage from the grid?

How big of a solar panel array do you guys call adaquate?

Panels need to be sized for consumption IMO. You cant just keep on getting a bigger and bigger battery to try and survive through shortfalls. A 2-5 day’s consumption is probably about right

I wouldn’t fancy going through customs with all those batteries trying to argue they are personal effects. Also the boat or tunnel wont want dangerous goods like that. They tend to draw a distinction between batteries that are in things and batteries that are unattached. Ive had clarification...

Seller of Envision 305Ah cells - UK

Have had some of these from Fogstar (UK based dealer) and have been very happy with them. Unfortunately they went out of stock and the price has now gone up to £115. NKON jn the netherlands (holland) have them for almost half that price but they wont ship to UK. So - I’m considering going...

    Balancing multiple batteries in parallel

The problem is different internal resistance of the cells. So one battery will drop voltage under load more than another and give less current compared to the stronger one (with less internal resistance). They can also have different SoC/voltage curves even with no current flowing.
