Mixed up groups of cells in 16s packs and need to reassemble

I have a 4S BMS that I would use to charge each block. I was just hoping to avoid the pain of doing that 16 times! I have 3 more groups of 16S batteries that I was actively using before storing them marked for about 4 months. Those came back fine when I put them back together. But this...

Mixed up groups of cells in 16s packs and need to reassemble

Hey guys, I have 4 16s 280 ah packs that I top balanced, drained to about 50%, and put in storage. I taped groups of 4 cells together for easy handling. I was dumb and didn't mark the 4 groups of 4 cells that formed the 16s pack so now I have a mixed up mess. I need to integrate them into the...

    Damaged cell, safe or not?

I never found anything absolutely definitive. I found a bit of technical discussion of it though on a message board somewhere. Unfortunately I didn't save the link. An engineer was discussing that these type of cells typically contain pouch cells inside that are welded together. So the...

    Damaged cell, safe or not?

I did some studying on how these cells are built and the corner like this is a good place to have damage. If it had been on the long side I wouldn't have tried to use it. I put this cell in a 16s pack with 3 thermal sensors on the cell and tested it out. The whole pack charged and discharged...

    Damaged cell, safe or not?

I'm working through this pallet of cells and I found one with a decent dent in it. All the other cells were high quality, very clean, very limited scratching or very slight denting. This cell has a dent that is approximately 4.5mm deep with an impacted area 2cm by 1cm. Should I be concerned...

Excessive voltage drop and heating when charging

I got the new charger today. The same thing happened with this one! The big difference though was I had 2 gauge wire in the charger lugs and crimped ring terminals bolted to the battery and BMS. This time I noticed that my BMS was reporting one cell as 0.05V higher than the others. My multimeter...

Excessive voltage drop and heating when charging

This is my guess too but I don't understand why it would make much of a difference. A load is a load. Except when it's not. I bought a progressive dynamics lithium charger which should solve the problem and is significantly more powerful.

Excessive voltage drop and heating when charging

The cells have not been top balanced yet. I'm charging them up in preparation for top balancing. The cells are at a low state of charge and I expect them to be pulling the charger's full rated output.

Excessive voltage drop and heating when charging

There's a 12v female cigarette lighter connector attached, but there's nothing plugged into it.

Excessive voltage drop and heating when charging

BMS is seeing between 15.0 and 15.4 amps. The ammeter on the charger is showing it pegged at 15 amps which is what it does for hours with FLA batteries. It is a passively cooled unit, so no fan. I set the dip switches to off so it would do 13.5 volt constant voltage charge. The voltage drop...

Excessive voltage drop and heating when charging

Hi everyone, I'm working through a batch of EVE 280Ah cells from Docan Technology. I built up a 12v pack with 4 of the cells today and connected a 12v OverkillSolar BMS. That went perfect. I don't have a 12v dedicated lithium battery charger and planned to use my existing Samlex 12v charger...

    Our NEW GO-TO LiFePO4 vendor...09.20.21

Just received the pallet of 280Ah cells I ordered shipped out of Texas. Shipping wasn't as steamlined as I would like, but it was the carrier's fault, not the shipper. I receive freight shipments fairly regularly and these cells are the best packed shipment I've ever received. I'm used to seeing...

    30kW "cheap" inverter

Wow you guys, keep going with your thoughts. It will be about a week before I have time to get back to this, but I'll read everything and do a mega post to respond. We're in the middle of moving to get out to Utah permanently to get this project started for real.

    30kW "cheap" inverter

Ok guys, wow, this has been so helpful. @HateGrid We're building an ICF rambler with basement with additional insulation everywhere. Extra south facing windows to capture the heat in the winter with shading for the summer. I'll look into advances in heat pumps. I wasn't considering them...

    30kW "cheap" inverter

In our current 2000sqft home we use about 20-25kW per day. Estimating for the new house, it's looking like 90kW for a high usage day isn't out of the question. I expect something closer to 30-45kW most days. The house will be larger, 6000 sqft with about 1000 sqft unfinished storage, plus a shop...

    30kW "cheap" inverter

I'm planning the utilities for the off grid home I'm in the process of building. We will be building in central Utah USA. The goal is to live a normal life and not have to worry about conserving too much, but be off grid. There's good sun in the summer, and regular sun in the winter, but there's...
