Why Use Solar Over Gas Generator? (Newbie Question)

I do not think I was very clear, sorry about that. I do not want to power all of that daily. My goal is to have a system in place for emergency power if the grid power fails during a storm, hurricane, etc. I do not want to power everything at once. That is just a list of items I would like to...

Do They Make Beginner Solar Power Station Kits?

Hello everyone. I am curious, do they make beginner friendly power station kits? Think of a DIY Jackery with a precut box, mppt, bms, inverter, usb and 12 volts, wiring, fuses, etc. All included, all I have to do is assemble it and put an AGM or LiFePo in the box. I am new to all of this, trying...

Why Use Solar Over Gas Generator? (Newbie Question)

Thank you. I live on a fixed income due to blindness. I am looking strictly at “keep you alive” type solutions on a budget of $1400 or less. I am not trying to power the 5000 square feet home with $100k in solar while making a six figure income. LOL I live with my parents on a small farm. I...

Why Use Solar Over Gas Generator? (Newbie Question)

In a nutshell the up front cost of fossil run stuff is less expensive, yet over time the solar powered setup is less expensive to operate? I can see where solar power would be fantastic in an RV or 14x14 cabin. As a back up power system for emergency use, there is a lot to think about.

Why Use Solar Over Gas Generator? (Newbie Question)

Hello everyone. I am new to solar and am learning. It sure seems like the solar generator is a hot topic at the moment. I am interested in solar or a gas generator for back up or emergency use. It seems to me that solar generators are expensive and limited when it comes to powering 120 volt...

High Quality Solar Generator Advice Please

For those of you who grew up watch or still watch the Dukes Of Hazard tv series....I say in my best Rosco P. Coltrane voice “Good new, good news”. Last night I basically said ”the heck with it”. I plugged my cpap in to the 120 volt inverter on the Rockpals 300. It was either gonna power it ir I...

High Quality Solar Generator Advice Please

Thank you. I saw this 27 minute review of it on YouTube. I liked the idea of how you can add external batteries to it. One of the things I was wondering about was its AGM battery. My understanding is that it is not good to draw the battery below 50%. That would make its safe useable range on its...

High Quality Solar Generator Advice Please

Yeah the NAPA jump box was a gift a while back and was on sale for $110 at the time. It is nice to keep in the truck and charged should it ever be needed. It has come in handy and saved a few people with dead batteries at Walmart or Tractor Supply. I did not buy the jump box. I did buy the...

High Quality Solar Generator Advice Please

Just for giggles I wore my ResMed S10 auto cpap for ten minutes. It was plugged into the Rockpals 120 volt outlet. The wattage shown was 20 on inhale and 16-18 exhale. If those numbers are accurate then an eight hour sleep is 160 watts and ten hours is 200 watts. That means the Rockpals would...

High Quality Solar Generator Advice Please

The jump box charges with its included external automotive 12 volt 2 amp charger. It has a plug on the end of its cable to connect it to the jump box. In theory the Rockpals could charge the jump box from its 120 volt port but charging a battery from a battery does not seem like a worthwhile...

High Quality Solar Generator Advice Please

Alright everyone. The Rockpals 300 will not power the cpap from its 12 volt DC. It goes in to protect mode. The jump box will charge the Rockpals. However, when charging the Rockpals the DC stays active and it turns off the 120 volt inverter. This is getting fun.

High Quality Solar Generator Advice Please

Thank you both very much. You are right, I could just use the Rockpals I have via the 120 volt inverter. Once my Kilowarr gets here via the big brown truck, I will see how much power it uses over a few nights. The entire reson I am interested in powering the ResMed S10 auto cpap via 12 volts is...

High Quality Solar Generator Advice Please

Sorry to keep being a bother but I have another question. Would not a dc-dc converter work for giving me a regulated 12 volt supply for the Rockpals or the automotive jump box? This would avoid returns to Rockpals, recredit to my debt card, plus use what I already have. Thank you for your input.

Thank you for the reply. I am new to this sort of thing. I am not against the DIY route but my question is realistically how much savings are we talking about? High Quality Solar Generator Advice Please

Hello everyone. I would like your advice as I have now learned my lesson. I did my research and on paper what should have worked did not work in reality. I use a CPAP machine every night. As A Beginner Do I Buy Or DIY?

Thank you everyone for the help, working with me, and being patient while I study my options. I did forget to mention that I have some tools. I do our own basic automotive repairs on the farm. I have sockets, wrenches, Amazon multimeter (should have bought a Klein), Irwin automatic wire...

As A Beginner Do I Buy Or DIY?

What you mention here is why I am on the fence. Yes solar is quiet but compared to a $1000 Honda generator....the up front cost is far greater. This would be an emergency type system and solar will run a fridge or a coffee pot, but you need a large system to do it for several days without...

Questions About Portable Solar Power Stations

I have noticed that a lot of this site deals with traditional solar powered setups.
