    Lishen 272 Ah LiFePO4 3.2V Cells 4x Austin Texas

I've got four Lishen 272 Ah cells I brought from Amy of Luyuan via Alibaba back in 2021. They've only been cycled twice. Also will include a JBD 100A BMS with Bluetooth. Asking $400. Pick up in Austin, TX. Sorry - I can't pack them for shipping.

Use BMS discharge lock to switch a load / charger?

I've a 120A JBD BMS and wondering if the "lock" to enable charge/discharge can be used to switch on/off a live load / charger? Basically if I've a 100A load or charger - is it fine to use the BMS's "lock" to connect and disconnect? Will that harm the FETs or cause any arc'ing?

    Lishen 272AH thread?

My cells finally arrived at my doors. The hardware they came with feels quite weak (M6 bolts instead of set screws + flange nuts). Is there any good place to buy better hardware? I also am looking for more bus bars needed for top balancing. I'm thinking about ordering these...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

They make the assumption that "on" means any none zero voltage across the light bulb's terminals. It takes nanoseconds for the RF/EMF wave + capacitance to cross the 1 meter air gap. It'll take 1 second for DC steady state voltage to reach the bulb and turn in on in the way we understand it...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

The technically correct answer is 1m/c which equals 1s. It has nothing to do with length of wire. In fact without wires (no a complete circuit), the technically correct answer is 1m/c b.c he is relying on RF/EMF and capacitance from the switch being flipped. I hate the fact that the...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

I'm not seeing any errors in the 3D diagram other than maybe the fact that the magnitudes are not reflected? It's the interpretation of the Poynting vector that is incorrect. The Poynting vector between the wires are non-consequential in DC steady state. Outside of DC, they're called inductance...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

Are you talking about the 3D graphic from the original video? It most likely wasn't created that way... Trying to interpret the Poynting vector as something it's not. Consider this example: wrap the entire circuit loop in a perfect shield. Assuming no changing magnetic field... Poynting vector...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

The Poynting vector needs to be integrated over a closed surface of a volume in 3D space to be used in the Poynting theorem. Yes there's non-zero Poynting vectors outside the wires and yes there shouldn't be any vectors inside the wire (assuming ideal conductors, etc). But I don't know what you...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

True but they're using Poynting vector for something it doesn't describe. It's not a breakdown of that model. It's a misuse.

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

I also want to mention that the video did a qualitative analysis of energy flow instead of a quantitative one. In the other words, that 3D diagram reflects direction of the fields and the Poynting vector with no analysis of the magnitudes. They then go on to suggest that majority of energy flows...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

Maybe "physical process" isn't the term I'm looking for. I think what I'm trying to say is energy flow in itself isn't a physical process but a measure of the change in a quantitative property caused by physical process if that makes any more sense. You're correct energy is a quantitative...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

That's exactly what they're trying to imply. Being correct on a technicality means you've to dive into minute details of the argument which is the opposite of simplifying assumptions. I bet those there professors of EE would have serious problems with the final video... There's a bunch of...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

Veritasium is known to be the click-bait of science and does a lot of pseudoscience-like logic in other videos so I would take this video was a truckload of salt. Honestly, he just discovered RF & maybe capacitance. The whole water flowing through pipes analogy still holds.

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

If you add two more switches to the circuit at opposite ends where the wire bends - and open those two switches half a second before you flip the main switch - you'll still see some RF (+ maybe capacitance?) induced voltage at the bulb even thought the circuit is incomplete. Again, I find this...

    The Big Misconception About Electricity

Not a big fan of this video. While it's technically correct, it's extremely misleading. The power induced through the bulb when the switch closes is due to RF. It would be induced even if the bulb was disconnected from the circuit at the far ends of the wire loop. If the entire circuit was...

Battery disconnect with a live load

Thanks for all the insights. It sounds pretty clear these switches are not sufficient for my use case. My reasoning for switching the inverter on/off using these switches was to have a single power button for the system. It's a 12V system with 100A draw.

Battery disconnect with a live load

I'm considering using one of these battery disconnect switches between my battery bank and inverter but I'm a little confused about their current rating. If the switch is rate for 100A, can it safely switch on/off a live 100A load OR does it mean it can support a 100A load that's connected AFTER...

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

I think they're just buried coils but not completely sure. Funny: a community started freaking out when their system started heating up over time - I think it plateaued in the end thou.

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

Thanks, first time I'm hearing about this. I'm looking at LG NeON 2 360W panels - found some brochures saying they've "anti-PID." Still trying to figure out how big of a worry this is though. Check out https://www.photovoltaik4all.de/media/pdf/28/75/4c/LGE-PID-White-Paper-v1-1.pdf for example...

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

I've eight 272Ah LiFePO4 cells on order through Michael B Caro's group by so battery talk is not completely tangential. That said, I still wouldn't DIY a power bank for cost savings - just for fun + emergency power :) I wonder if the future is neighborhood power banks. In central Texas, we're...

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

Detailed rates attached. Peak summer is about 2.9x compared to economy rates at night. Peak winter is only about 1.5x. It seems there will be two peak demand based charges: A Peak Demand Charge at $5.15/kW - calculated monthly, basically the max hourly kW demand during peak hours A Transmission...

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

Good eye. It's a Homeline Square D alright - a HOM30L200C to be exact. I believe it's a 200A bus bar. The smallest mains breaker they list on the brochure is 100A but 150A makes more sense to me. Nice, how do you like the Sunny Boy inverter? Do you have optimizers installed? The only shadow...

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

It's top fed. I do have two 70A breakers feeding a sub-panel at the bottom end. I'm not using the dryer circuit so I can free up slots 9 & 11. I think my options are: Backfeed through 9 & 11 Move subpanel to 9 & 11 and backfeed through very end Figure out if I can backfeed through subpanel My...

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

Some good news... I opened up the panel in the garage and looks like I've a 200A load center. It should give us plenty of room for a load side tap. At worse, the code might require a breaker/disconnect to be install in the panel which shouldn't be too costly.? If an additional...

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

Thanks, didn't know about this rule. I always assumed conductors behind a fuse/breaker had to be rated higher. I want at least 9kW with room to grow. That'll cover everything peak summer months. It's all gas appliances down here but who knows what the future will be likely with a big push for...

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

@Supervstech, the mains panel in the garage is fed by an underground run from the meter at the curb. Yes, there no breaker/disconnect on the mains panel just the 125A breaker/disconnect on the meter at the curb. I think the underground run has to be rated at least 125A. Yes, the only panel is...

Designer says my system size is limited by my mains disconnect?

Hi folks. Can someone help me make sense of what my system designer is telling me. They're saying I'm limited to a 3.8kW system due to the size of my mains disconnect at the meter. My house is laid out like this: Meter is at the curb with a 125A breaker/disconnect Underground run to my house...

    40A+ AC Charger for 24V LiFePO4

Hi, I'm planning to use a 8S 272Ah LiFePO4 battery for emergency grid-down situations. I'll have access to about 1.5kW of AC power during the day from the SPS outlet of a SMA Sunny Boy inverter. So I'm looking for a AC charger for the 24V in the 40A+ range. A lot of the AC LiFePO4 chargers I...
