    48v from 12v LiFePO4 in series

Check with the manufacturer or seller before using 12v lithium batteries in series, the bms and internals might not be up to the task. Better to assemble your own batteries with BMS rated for the voltage you want to operate at

LiFePo4 addition to a SLA House battery?

Absolutely, the closer your range remains to 50% on these batteries, the longer they last. But Lithiums doing the daily grind while the SLA's trickle charge and sit ready for stormy weather is a pretty awesome combination, I'm tempted to put some into mine as well...

    So this happened today

It likely gets lost in the pages, but for those that have missed it: the missing bus bars while charging were most likely the cause of the fire. He still has plenty more of the cells and will be working much more carefully going forward. Burning down his trailer certainly devastated him...

LiFePo4 addition to a SLA House battery?

Stumbled upon this gentlemans approach to mixing battery technologies, and gotta say, I like the sound of this. I am running 100% Lithium right now, but my brother has a large Lead Acid system and wants to add some Lithium Iron Phosphates to his, using this method. He would be building his...

    So this happened today

That photo is of a partially disassembled battery, with no voltage present. Those cells would need to be removed and charged to be dangerous.

    So this happened today

As far as we can tell they are LiFePo4 batteries, and I believe they were listed/sold as such

    So this happened today

Supervstech called it in comment #28, the missed bus bars caused the fire.

    So this happened today

He bought them in crates this year. Apparently a string of about 40 in series comes out of the crate at something like 3v.. so very very very low voltage in storage. They have never been charged, not once. The project that they were manufactured for was cancelled years ago. I have no idea how...

    So this happened today

I am aware of this, and again, that is how I reacted. The guy who currently has crates of them, and burned his trailer down, insists that they are coming out at nearly 0v.

    So this happened today

They are not discharged to 0v, they are uncharged at nearly 0v. New old stock. I reacted the same way initially, but that is just the way these crates came. Something to do with shipping and high voltages, iirc

    So this happened today

The Cells are being sourced from these large batteries. When he opens these crates for the first time, all of the cells are at nearly 0V and require charging.

Stored at 0v, never been charged before.

    So this happened today

This seem as good a comment to address as any. I have invited the owner of the burnt trailer to the forum, and indeed he has browsed here before and was inspired by Will Prowse's youtube channel to get into Solar Power and LiFePo4 batteries. He is not an electrician by any means, as the fine...

    So this happened today

I don't have much information on the system, I think he had an all in one Grow Watt inverter and was using grade B 80AH cells. Bloating has been observed in these cells, for what ever that is worth.

To Daly or Not, that is the Question!

Everyone is alright, and the smoke was very intentionally avoided because we all knew batteries were involved. Scary day, Friday the 13th!

    So this happened today

He was so proud of his new 48v parallel series configuration. Charging the cells up... How it ended up: Crank the brightness to see this aftermath photo a little better: I don't know what caused it, but he was not using any bms. I believe the inverter was a Grow Watt.

To Daly or Not, that is the Question!

Not saying that it is for sure the cause, but I did see trailer burn down to the ground today, and the likely culprit is the large LiFePo4 parallel series battery (with no BMS) that was charging when the fire started.

To Daly or Not, that is the Question!

Daly have worked well for me, you must be very careful when setting it up. If your connections are wrong, you may damage the equipment. If all the cells you purchased are identical: you may top balance them, and connect them in parallel pairs. Then connect the single bms, each pair looks like...

2K offgrid solar cabin layout check please

The system was modelled after Will's 4K offgrid system. Panels were selected to utilize the Tracer's 150V PV input, Inverter comes highly recommended and is also favored by Will. I did not see an All In One unit suggested for this level of system, have you got one in mind you would have...

2K offgrid solar cabin layout check please

Please forgive the sloppy paint work. Graphic design is not my strong suit! 6 335w Canadian Solar PVs will be roof mounted, I may add a 3rd mppt for vertical wall mounted winter panels at a later time. Cabin is intended for full time use, and should have thermostat controlled propane heat, with...

    40 new Grade A 100AH 3.2v matched prismatic cells, building a 24v 500AH setup.

They are difficult to get at this time, I would have preferred it but have to work with what is available. I got a great price on the 100AH cells.

    40 new Grade A 100AH 3.2v matched prismatic cells, building a 24v 500AH setup.

Thank you, I certainly will post updates as it progresses. Right now I am just finalizing all of my parts and trying to figure out the wiring and layout. I can't get all of my lumber until July, and the system won't be installed in it's permanent home until the cabin is built, in the mean time I...

    40 new Grade A 100AH 3.2v matched prismatic cells, building a 24v 500AH setup.

40 cells 8 cells per battery in 24v series 5 batteries in parallel setup for 500AH. New to solar, and never built a battery before, so bear with me but I think I've almost got this figured out. I plan to test each cell and carefully assemble each battery, using solder for BMS leads if needed...

~100kwh for 24/7 off grid home

Some LiFePo4 battery companies are now adding bms and a heating circuit to their designs. When the temp reaches below the min, the charging current is redirected to heating circuit until batt is back up to temp.

Just bought cottage in the wilderness and need help deciding on solar product and set up

instead of spending all your money on a massive bespoke system, try building one of these https://www.mobile-solarpower.com/2000-watt-24v-solar-system.html If that doesn't suit your needs, add batteries, MPPT's and solar arrays of 3 or 4 panels until it does. That 4000w inverter is a beast...

    Hello DIY Solar forum!

Glad to have found this forum, and Will's youtube channel! I am in the process of going off grid full time and wanted to build a solar power system that has a decent capacity to minimize dependence on a genset. Looked at some all in one systems, spoke to some installers, and quickly realized...
