    50Ah lifepo4 starter in 2011 Prius

As I mentioned in the OP, I considered a 50ah LiFePo4, but ended up putting in a 55ah Full River AGM (it only just fit) instead. I’ve been camping in it for the last three months and if I don’t start it for a few days, I can flatten the 12v battery. Luckily I have a Noco GBX45 jump starter. I...

Help with Renogy 40A DC to DC charger

Thanks Renogy. There’s no problem. I’ve installed the 60 amp ANL fuse in place of 60 amp circuit breaker. It now works fine on 40 amps but 20 amps is sufficient so are still using the current limiter, as I don’t have a refrigerator yet and my needs are modest. I‘ll be reinstalling the 270ah...

Help with Renogy 40A DC to DC charger

Thank you Renogy. There’s no problem, at least charging at 20 amps. I’ve bought 2 of your ANL 60 amp fuses from Amazon - one to replace the circuit breaker and the other with a 50 amp fuse between charger and house battery.

Help with Renogy 40A DC to DC charger

yeah. I guess it‘s the breaker. I bought it from here. They’re renowned for selling crap. https://www.jaycar.com.au/60a-32vdc-panel-mount-circuit-breaker/p/SZ2081?pos=1&queryId=960c54cab64256f63b79fc020bac53ca&sort=relevance&searchText=Breaker ..and I got ripped off as well. $20 cheaper on...

Help with Renogy 40A DC to DC charger

I have installed a Renogy 40A DC to DC charger in my Gen 3 Prius. I’ve put a 60 amp circuit breaker on the 2 AWG positive cable from the starter to charger. The charger to 270ah LIFEPo4 (its what I had after not using in another install) cable is 8 AWG. The charger is turned on and off with the...

    2 x 12v Lifepo4 in Parallel.

Thank you DThames for the assistance and GLC for the assurance. I have since had the laggard battery on the Victron‘s absorption charge at 10A for another 12 hours putting in 2.4 amps in that time. After resting it for 8 hours the voltage differential is now apparently just a.02 of a volt.

    2 x 12v Lifepo4 in Parallel.

I just bought 2 x cheap ($290 US) generic supposedly prismatic 12v 135ah slim form batteries from a fairly reputable seller that I intend to use in parallel. i understand they need be the same voltage before linking them. I’ve been charging them with a Victron IP67 25 amp charger with the...

    50Ah lifepo4 starter in 2011 Prius

I’ve been looking around. The consensus on Priuschat is conservative- why risk it with anything but a AGM. There’s a fair bit of technical talk which I don’t have ability or patience to wade through. There is one person who installed a Renogy 50Ah Lifepo4 in his Rav4 hybrid. His conclusion: Is...

    50Ah lifepo4 starter in 2011 Prius

The 12v battery is in the rear of the cabin. i‘m in a temperate climate but it can get hot in summer, especially as it’s always parked in the sun. It does have however a fan powered by a 60 watt panel on the roof that exhausts hot air from the cabin. The 12v battery is only required to boot the...

    50Ah lifepo4 starter in 2011 Prius

My first post. I’m been wondering if it would be advisable to replace my current 5 year old AGM 45Ah with a Renogy 50Ah Lifepo4. I’d also have a PWM (Victron or Renogy) solar controller hooked up to a 100w mono flexible panel to charge when parked as I‘m only doing one or two short trips a week...
