Will Sol-Ark 15K automatically stop feeding grid if grid goes down?

I have a Sol-Ark 15 with a solar array and 30kW of batteries. The Sol-Ark is fed directly from the meter and then the Sol-Ark feeds to the main panel. I also have a net metering agreement with my utility. My question is this: If the grid is down will the Sol-Ark 'island' the service to my...

Sol-Ark 15K AC coupled setup to reduce grid supplied power

I’m finding out right now. 31 inches of snow on Tuesday and our grid power is down. Batteries down to 42% this AM, but the sun is coming up and solar is starting to recharge them. 15K battery backup seems adequate, as long as someone is available to brush the snow off the PV array.

Sol-Ark 15K AC coupled setup to reduce grid supplied power

At some point I'm going to bite the bullet and decommission the Fronius inverter, run an additional PV line from the panel so I have 3 MPPTs instead of the current two, and then direct feed DC from the array into the Sol-Ark. That should take care of all of the hassle of dealing with AC...

Sol-Ark 15K AC coupled setup to reduce grid supplied power

Excellent advice, thanks. I plan to upgrade the 100 amp subpanel to 200 amp, but keep the feed to the panel from the main at 100amp. As you state, this 200 amp subpanel will address the issue of 140 amps coming in (100/main, 40pv). As far as the location of the 100 amp breaker on the main...

Sol-Ark 15K AC coupled setup to reduce grid supplied power

PV from array goes to Fronius inverter, converts to AC and goes to 100 amp subpanel via a breaker in the panel, then from 100 amp subpanel to the 200 amp main breaker panel. The 100 amp subpanel gets AC input from BOTH the 200 amp main AND when the sun is shining, from the PV array. This...

Sol-Ark 15K AC coupled setup to reduce grid supplied power

Just AC coupled, connected to the Main panel (not the GEN panel on the Sol-Ark), My net metering agreement is 1:1, Average nightime use is very modest as heat is wood, estimated at between 6 and 10 kW.

Sol-Ark 15K AC coupled setup to reduce grid supplied power

I'm about a day away from starting up a new 15K installation and am curious about what the right configuration should be to achieve my goals (see below). Any thoughts from experienced Sol-Ark users is greatly appreciated. GOALS PRIMARY: Use as little grid power as possible, and use solar when...

Sol-Ark 15K installation and PV production monitoring quandary....

So you're suggesting taking the AC feed from the Fronius, pulling it off the 100amp subpanel and then running that to the generator feed and connecting it and then running that directly to the GEN port on the Sol-Ark? Interesting idea, and with a transfer switch I could switch back and forth...

Sol-Ark 15K installation and PV production monitoring quandary....

Not sure which wire you're asking about. The wire from the gen to the main is XHHW 2.

Sol-Ark 15K installation and PV production monitoring quandary....

CURRENT SETUP: I have 7.92 kW grid-tied array running thru a Fronius Primo 7.6 DC inverter selling any excess production back to utility This system sends the AC power that it outputs to a 100 amp subpanel in a barn, about 150 feet from the 200 amp main panel The subpanel is connected to a...

Plug and Play alternative storage capacity for a Pointzero Titan system

I have a Pointzero Titan system with a single battery attached. I am looking to expand the battery capacity without buying the Titan supplied battery. Is anyone familiar with someone who has already configured systems that solve this problem? I am not interested in soldering and assembling some...
