Can anyone shed some light on my victron readings?

So think I’ve figured it out, the victron quick stats list the value of w rather than va which is what it should be (don’t know why). Anyway depending on the load type either inductive or reactive depends on the power factor which we can convert the va to watts usually ~1 for reactive and...

Can anyone shed some light on my victron readings?

Hello from Skegness (actually classed as Thorpe St Peter but nobody knows where that is )?

Can anyone shed some light on my victron readings?

That’s what I thought, I normally only have a fridge/freezer and a few other smaller lids hooked up, I only had the dehumidifier plugged in at that point. And no the shunt is the correct way round. Always read correct until today so I’ve removed the variable - dehumidifier. Which unplugging...

Can anyone shed some light on my victron readings?

Haha no worries, I’m UK based more specifically Lincolnshire for most of my life, however I’ve been all over the UK and worked with people from varying backgrounds so will have more than likely picked up a few things along the way. Shunt having a mare - short for the word nightmare, so shunt...

Can anyone shed some light on my victron readings?

Hi all, been a little while anyway I’ve been running my small setup for most of this year and has been running a treat. It’s a 24v off grid system so no mains tie in etc. I’ve had to take down my panels due to bad weather so had the solar side disconnected but kept the system powered on to...

SG readings - batteries toast or is my hydrometer out?

It’s using the standard 8% setting at the moment, looks to have dropped a little on voltage so may have been adjusting. Currently at 30.20v Il adjust it up but being a little over cast not sure if it will hit the 32.4v target. Need more solar.

SG readings - batteries toast or is my hydrometer out?

Update finally: New hydrometer still reads off the chart for water, so not sure what’s happening there. All readings are all 0.020+ on the new hydrometer. So fully charged and float for 3+ hrs All are between 1.215-1.220 took a while with 36 cells to check and double check. Currently going...

SG readings - batteries toast or is my hydrometer out?

Apologises for the delay in replying been absolutely flat out very little time to do any testing or anything. Honestly I’d never heard of the equalisation setting until I looked through the mppt. I have just periodically switched them off the charging circuit when nearly full and topped them...

SG readings - batteries toast or is my hydrometer out?

Hi all, So long story short I took readings around 3 months ago of my 8 115ah batteries after fully charging prior to putting into the bank (2 were toast and wouldn’t charge well at all). Readings all in the green around 1275-1280. Anyway I’ve noticed voltage drop on day to day usage and my...

    Small setup advice.

That will be the next step once I figure out my system vs discharge state. Currently having issues that after a few days of discharge and charging from 100% to 82% SOC, using around 90ah on the way back up charging wise I’ve hit float on the mppt with -30ah to go. Thought I’d missed something...

    Small setup advice.

I’m still running the loaner panels (the little 100w things for now). Have 6 panels I total. Really need to get some sorted, company we were going to go with no longer exist and 2nd lot out of stock so back to the drawing board. But small list for the little 24v system: 6 x 115ah leisure fla...

    Small setup advice.

Got to go with the fla support here. I was given the batteries in my setup so I cannot knock the FLA, so far all charge and hold voltage pretty well fluid levels and so readings are good and all are stable when under load. Best thing is if any of them kicks the can so to speak, my local shop...

    Small setup advice.

Appreciate the advice on the balancers, Il have to pick one up. So far the batteries have kept fairly well balanced in the above config, still need to put the busbars in and sort the wiring, just not had a minute spare ?. Out of curiosity how would you wire in another two batteries to the...

    Small setup advice.

Your diagram was fine to understand I was trying to understand how the flow of current would work through the batteries for the series/parallel configuration. But I got it in the end haha. Well I finally got round to redoing the wiring and still awaiting on the busbars to be delivered (delivery...

    Small setup advice.

Makes sense thinking of it as one big one rather than multiple individual batteries. Ah didn’t realise that all the main link ones are for series but both parallel are longer will get them cut down and crimped. That diagram took a bit of working out on the battery config side, not seen a...

    Small setup advice.

Appreciate your input, thought I’d got it off kilter but glad I asked. Busbars are on the order list for sure looking at the amount of points to connect up it makes sense. Cheers again.

    Small setup advice.

Appreciate the info as always, every days a school day and all that. I think for the time being Il stick with the 24v system. Get it all up and running and if expansion is needed then go 48v. M I’m just getting my head around the battery wiring/charge controller wiring for the multiple...

    Small setup advice.

I must admit since we did the energy audit we’ve slowly been moving from higher wattage appliances to more efficient items. On the house side, for us we have electric oven/hob which is probably the biggest draw other than the washing machine which pretty much would nuke the battery off grid...

    Small setup advice.

Ah I do apologise I should have been clearer, these will be ground mounted in the 1m x 8m and can be either horizontal or vertical. Honestly the plot looks deceiving for its size. Looking at it this morning I had to get the tape out and double check. I could fit panels vertically no problem...

    Small setup advice.

Appreciate the info as always (I read your original reply). Considering returning the 100/20, it’s great that it covers the whole voltage range but I think I’d be shooting myself in the foot pv capacity wise at 24v. I’m planning on at least a 1200watt array to start with which would have been...

    Small setup advice.

I may well be completely wrong as that was the info I got given ringing up the supplier not the manufacturer as their specs didn’t have a typical c rating. Looking at the data sheet: https://www.yuasa.co.uk/yuasa/datasheet/index/sku/L35-115/ (had to go hunting for it as they are made for a...

    Small setup advice.

You would be correct on the absorption phase, double checked and yes it finished the bulk charge a couple of days ago. Originally I had only intended to have a small setup maybe powering just a fridge and a couple of mains powered chargers etc but with adding in the freezer at well it bumped up...

    Small setup advice.

I do apologise, I could have Sworn I replied to your comment. Anyway UK based and location iirc we get an average of 4.1 peak hours of solar irradiance. As say some days will be overcast all day for days on end, others we could have clear blue skies and sun all day just the typical English...

    advice replace epever 3210 AN

Just out of curiosity any particular reason your not upgrading to the EPEVER 4210AN? I’ve got this and a smaller victron unit but considering either sticking with the bigger 4210an or going dual Victron’s just a tad pricey.

    Small setup advice.

Appreciate your input. I’ve had the test panels hooked up to both scc’s without any issue, however on turning off the dc load (not using the terminals so thought no point having them live) for the EPEVER it gave off a lovely high pitched whine whereas the victron didn’t. I can’t stand the noise...

Yeah it’s completely south facing. Doing the maths for the plot and panel angle it works out for bigger panels up to around 2m height. Just didn’t look that big an area.

    Small setup advice.

First option: We have a patch of land at the back of a gravel drive to the side of our garage that is unused, which is circa 1m-1.25m in depth and around 8m in length iirc. During the summer it is a sun trap with sun and zero shadow from around 8am well into the evening. Winter wise different...

Thank you for your comment I thought I’d worked the amp hours out right lol was doubting myself. Unfortunately lead acid so usable will be only 200ah. I can’t grumble they were all practically brand new and free. Hmmm decisions decisions lol, I’ve got the 24/1200 inverter due to reliability...

    Small setup advice.

Appreciate the info. I think I got slightly confused converting from 12v-24v and the amp hours. So just to clarify wiring two 12v 115ah batteries into series would give 24v but the same amp hour rating? So with 8 batteries I thought It would end up with 4 lots of 24v/115ah. I was told the array...

    Small setup advice.

So after our original plan for the house and complete off grid living has gone out the window. We’ve opted for a smaller off grid setup for the garage/workshop. Now due to constraints on available space, workshop side we have had to opt for smaller panels. Current battery setup is 24v 460ah...

UK shed solar for 3kw appliances

Similar boat, run a business from home and usual appliances. With everything increasing October/ Jan/ April and the leaked document for blackout plans got to say it’s something we should have sorted a lot sooner. We’ve cut our daily usage down to pretty much the minimum you can run, the usual...

Newbie looking at setting up solar for home possible off grid use.

Appreciate the info as always, I will be expanding once stock/funding allows, as I was budgeting for the inverter/charge controller, cabling and ancillaries first, then expanding the system. The solar panel model is the JAM60S20 380/MR Mono premium Half-cell black short frame QC4, figures are...

Newbie looking at setting up solar for home possible off grid use.

Just as an update, found a local company selling Ja solar 380w panels so going to order 4, just need to sort the inverter, (not sure if to go all in one or separate components) and at least one 100ah battery for now and see how things go. I’ve measured up for a ground based platform with the...

Newbie looking at setting up solar for home possible off grid use.

Got to agree, most of the local bungalows and large houses have them. We actually live around 2 miles from a huge solar farm- they also compliment the solar with 2 large turbine. With the recent increases and the two expected (October 80% and January, let alone the one in April they are now on...

Ah that's ok then, were a family of 4 and have oil central heating (not going back to storage heaters ever) as mentioned I changed the bulbs in the house to all led brought the consumption down a ton, the living room, landing and kitchen lights on in winter was close to a 1kw by itself...
