Just noticed a house in our village has landscape mounted panels with the clamps on the shorter edges. Been there for years.

Its an LG315N1C-G4. Max load 6000Pa. Found the installation manual. It states that when mounting with clamps, "the module may be fastened to a support using clamps on both the long edge and the short edge" However none of the drawings in the appendix show landscape mounting.

I'll see if I can get a datasheet on the panels. The are LG and are used so that may not be too easy.

To fit one more panel on my shed, I could go landscape, 2 rows of 3 instead of 5 in a row, portrait. I saw that to do this I am supposed to mount rails horizontally and then put another set of rail on top going vertically and then mount the panels with clamps on the long edges. What happens if...

Looking at an Istabreeze 2000w turbine, a 6m/s wind speed gives you about 250W, so this sounds a lot more realistic. 2000W needs a full on gale!

The low loading issue should be addressed by charging the batteries at 7kw for an hour rather than trying to run the house at 1000W for 7 hours, but I know what you mean. Trying to use a 100kVA for charging a 14kWh LiFePo4 battery isn't a good idea! 30kVA genset might be ok?

Great info guys! I see that some hybrid interters have generator inputs which makes the setup a bit easier I guess. The max charging current of LiFePo4 is the big issue isn't it. 0.5C on a 48v 304Ah battery means I can only put in about 7kw per hour so getting the battery up to half capacity...

The research was done by Southampton Univercity. Just google "Rotary Hydraulic Pressure Machine" you'll find loads of pictures and the research papers.

Just thought it was interesting that a technology as old as a water wheel still has room for improvement and that people are still researching it. Also the research is public and by the looks of it, well within the scope of a DIY builder to utilise into a more efficient hyrdo power generator...
