    Inverter converter combo

Well, I've already pulled the trigger on an Inverter/charger and a 24v-12v converter. Went with an Ames 3000 watt inverter/charger and I think a 40 amp converter. As far as loads, on the DC side it will only be lighting and an RV pump water system and charging misc. tablets/phones etc. On the...

    Inverter converter combo

I know there are inverter/chargers and inverter and separated converters. I want to go with a 24 volt system, so I'll need a 24 volt inverter. Are they available with a 12volt output for dc lighting and pumps? Or do I just have to run a 12volt converter as well?

    Newbe new cabin system

Does anyone have any suggestions as far as batteries?? Brand and Model?? I was initially thinking about just getting Napa brand deep cycle batteries since there is a Napa there but now I'm second guessing myself. I would like to initially build a 4 battery 24volt system, I'm thinking agm since...

    Solar battery maintainers

As some of you know, I have a cabin in alaska that we plan on using mainly only in the summer and for maybe a month total. We will also have a vehicle and boat stored there. I am considering getting a couple of those small solar maintainers to attach to each battery and attached to the window...

    Newbe new cabin system

Yeah, I ordered a bunch more parts that I won't see till next week so I can do it properly. Not planning on adding an inverter this time around so I'll have to hook an electric trolling motor to it or something, that should pull some amps.

    Newbe new cabin system

Yesterday I partially put my system together out in the driveway, Three of the above solar panels in series going into the combiner box then out to the Flexmax charge controller. Everything fired up no problem with a deep cycle battery that I pulled out of the boat. I roughly adjusted the...

    Newbe new cabin system

I like the combiner box idea, issue is that I am not positive if the plan in my head is really going to work once I get there. Any suggestions as far as the combiner box? The rating are what always throw me off. What would be going in per series string would be about 250watts but what would be...

    Newbe new cabin system

So three series strings of three into two three into one connectors than into the charge controller. With that controller, would I have to go to a 36volt battery bank? By my calculations, 112.8 volts and 24.81 amps = 2798.57 watts, Correct??

    Newbe new cabin system

Ok, so I purchased 13 of the panels with the above label, he gave me an extra just in case one had an issue. Is it the open circuit voltage and the short circuit current numbers that I use for my calculations? I am looking at the Outback 80amp controller which has 145v max running voltage I...

    Newbe new cabin system

MichaelK, We are taking a truck and boat up there this summer, that is why I am trying to put together some stuff to take up this time around. The truck and boat are going to stay there, so would like to get as much as possible up there that way. Shipping stuff up there is a pain in the rear...

    Newbe new cabin system

Thank you very much for the reply, you pretty much said what I needed to know! Do you have any suggestions as far as panels goes?? I was thinking that I would start small, 12v system, which it looks like the Flexmax 80amp model will do. Really think I can get away with 400 watts of panels...

    Newbe new cabin system

My wife and I purchased an off grid cabin in Southeast Alaska, currently only has a generator. The cabin is only a 12'x16' cabin. We only plan on using it for maybe a month or so per year in the summer months. Possibly more when I am able to retire. I have been researching and well its a little...
