    Solar Power

Realistically you're looking at at least $30-40k for a pro install in LA. Maybe half that for diy. On the plus side, there is the 30% federal rebate. 5-10 year break even with diy. Diy in CA and LA is exceedingly challenging in terms of learning the "rules" and then implementing them correctly...

    Off grid in suburbia

I'd advise against going without permits in suburban CA. Solar panels are hard to hide and CA POCOs and AHJs will make your life miserable if caught.

Solar Question from talking to installer

Some in CA are having approval issue as 18kpv apparently does not have PCS certification. Details in this thread. SS has suggested a potential work around but it is unclear if it would be approved by PG&E or the other large electric companies in CA

Solar Question from talking to installer

18kpv PCS issue is a risk in CA. Although I am SCE, I'll be interested to see if you can get approval as there are some odd info requests on the SCE application.

    California PCS

Probably not. If you download the CEC spreadsheet and search PCS you will find many inverters with PCS shown in the description column. The 18kpv doesn't show PCS in its description cell unfortunately.

California and structural engineering under 10kw

This 10k rule seems fishy to me. For CA roof mount it depends on rafter vs truss and spacing as well as many other details. See CA Solar Permitting Guidebook as an intro. For gazebo, I would guess it will require a structural engineering approval, but only way to know for sure is to contact...

EG4 PowerPro or Ruixu for 18KPV?

9540A testing is for the battery alone. Many batteries have 9540A. 9540 is inverter + battery tested together. You likely need 9540 to get permitted. 9540A alone is probably not enough. EG4 is unlikely to test batteries other than their own unless there is some special agreement. If Ruixu is...

EG4 PowerPro or Ruixu for 18KPV?

If you need to have a 9540 certified system, the Riuxuwould be problematic.

    Passing inspection with mix-and-match components

Where are you located? Currently, in CA if you want to get permitted you can only use EG4 batteries with the 18kpv. Other states have different rules.

    EG4 18kPV 12lv can't be used in Cali as of aug 28 2023

I was hoping that SCE would have it listed as well, but, alas, still not listed ...

6 or 4 foot on center roof mounts

Maybe you are confusing rail mounting with panel mounting. Only the rail mounting hardware needs to be spaced at 4', not the panels. Panel spacing is whatever will fit on the rails with the panel mounting hardware. Rail to rail spacing is dictated by the panel height or width if the panels are...

EG4 18KPV grid tie in Southern CA

Hi All. Was wondering if anyone has gotten approval from SCE to grid tie the 18kPV in CA / LA county? I'm considering buying the 18kPV + PowerPro battery, but I don't want to spend all that money and up with a system that cannot be grid tied as I will more than likely need to backfeed to power...

    Rapid shutdown switch question

Technically the 18kpv12l has a built in dc disconnect that is controlled by the RSD switch on the side or a remote switch so technically adding an external dc disconnect is not needed, but older requirements may not recognize this as an allowed solution. For example The CA solar guidebook single...

    EG4 18kpv + PowerPro Wallmount 14.3kwh is now CEC

@SignatureSolarJames I have one question, when might the 18kpv get CSIP approval. I'm in LA county with SCE & they apparently require that approval for grid tie.

18kpv, net metering, batteries, settings ?

Others may know more than me, but the first question is how is the 18kpv wired up? If you are you using a backfeed breaker in your main panel the 18kpv will turn off the grid connection when power goes down so any loads in your main panel will also go off. The battery can still run any loads on...

Wacky idea, find some way to load the panel voltage down when it gets above 150v. Some kind of temperature sensitive power resistor.

    EG4 batteries in California

Well, I was looking for the PowerPro or any EG4 batteries on the CEC list. All I see on the PowerPro link is a 1973 cert for LL batteries? Shouldn't I be seeing EG4 on the list below where the red line is? Or are we still awaiting a CEC website update? They should have done an update today.

    California Approved List

I believe that off grid does not connect to grid so you would not need to go through utility approval process However, one must also consider fire dept and AHJ approval if getting permitted. And if there is a fire, will insurance cover it? Home sale may also be a concern worth considering
