Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

In retrospect......... 'Oh sure, it'll be great! Freedom from the system they said! Total autonomy, oneness with nature, you'll be in total control.....they said. I kid.....I kid....there was no "They". I was very aware of my uphill battles and hardships and the realization that it...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Well that being the case, I probably did start out at a decent baseline. It was just a matter of getting bogus readings due to A: using a voltmeter at the inappropriate time and B: not have the shunt/monitor properly formatted.

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

I will report back on the specifics of the "little" solar generator when I get more time. Between my boondock life chores and dealing tedious, ultra slow and spotty internet, it is quite a challenge to keep up here.

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Status Report: Yesterday I used a 40amp LifePO4 specific charger, direct from Li Time themselves and charged the batteries for around 6 hours until the charger indicated that they were at 100%. The voltage at this point was 13.7 volts, not the "14.2V to 14.6V that they are expected to be when...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Well, unfortunately, the real estate is all taken up behind my container with infrastructure and building materials, so it'll have to be a 2x4 job out in the field.

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Yea, I'm aware. Just what I could swing at the time. Today I am accepting shipment of this one (below) just for good measure. This afternoon, when I receive the charger, I am going to take the batteries on a cart over to the barn and charge the shit out of them so that I know I'm starting with a...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

As far as I am aware, yes. They are wired in parallel, facing true south at around 38 degrees (i believe). As you can see, the sun is just hitting them straight-on at 11:50am

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

So here we have the specs from the 7 185watt panels. So actually we're only dealing with 1, 295W for this array. I was initially thinking about all my solar power combined. The 250watt array that I have set up for my portable solar generator are 22v and the 7-185W are 45V. So obviously they...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

I am definitely planning a quick and simple Mcguiver array with the panels. I like your idea but could you elaborate a bit on the concept of "overpanelled" please.

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Yea, delicately not the first time I got things cornfused in this realm.

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

BTW, the converter is 55amp under optimal conditions but the little ultra quite genny I am currently running only has 20/30amp capability, so that puts a damper on optimal charge capability.

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Well the solar generator has a two 100ah led acid batts with a 1500w inverter. It is hooked up to 250W solar array. It was intended to take the light loads such as shop lights and recharging batteries for shop tools. Generally throughout the day when the sun is out, it has no probs doing all...
  13. M

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Well, If I'm running the genny, then the converter is already wired into the 50amp system on the trailer, so yes, that does work effectively, as long as I'm running genny. I am trying to be low key though. So If I ran it for 8-12 hrs, I would likely draw attention and some neighbor would report...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Because the charger is silent, doesn't draw attention and uses no propane. It's more of a necessity than preference. No using gas generator for that. Was using solar generator with inverter from my shop. I also have use of a 110 outlet way over in a barn that I can charge with. Long story but...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

I do agree but my issue is that I am totally unprepared for this and that includes my budget. Therefore, I have to do all of this at the lowest cost possible, as quickly as possible. That is why I am so woefully unprepared and uninformed. I do have sights on the Victron hardware in the future...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Yea, it's just what I have hooked for for the moment. It's all been done in haste, totally in an emergency, so no time for planning properly. I do have 1600w worth of 185W panels but I have not had the time to set that up. It all came at me at once. So I am just trying to piece together...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

"Is there a reason you're not using this?" Only because I'd have to run the genny for 8 hrs. Unfortunately I could not find a 40+ amp charger locally that is not for starting a vehicle, thus, the 40 amp is only for 5 second bursts, not for continuous charging. The most I could find was 10amp...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

So if charging them at 29-30 can damage them, what about discharging them? I saw a rep from Battleborn say that LifePO4 batteries are good to -4 F before having issues FWIW. I thought that seems a little too cold in any case. It sound like, in addition to charging properly and calibrating...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Well it appears that in order to calibrate it correctly, I must deplete the battery again.

Well it sounds to me like my charger and all monitoring equipment are not accurate or something

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Has the factory Furrion shunt but should likely be recalibrated
  24. M

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Yes, still have converter. I just don't see how it could "bounce back" from 10V to 13V according to multiple sources in that short of time

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Which is precisely what I said. How could it show as charged in only an hour? I did charge for 10 hours during initial charge

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Makes sense about accurate assessment but I don't understand smart charger=dumb. If it is an "up-to-date" charger that is designed for charging lithium, what else is there?

  29. M

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Well I was not relying on the rv systems soley. I ran a separate smart charger. Also, my battery monitor/shunt and interior battery indicator are telling me that the battery is "fully charged" when I test it at 13.2-ish v.

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Yes, I am using the proper charge device and it has done its job effectively.
  31. M

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

My smart charge device never show anything over 13.9V fully charged. I've never seen 14V. Also, when "fully charged" @ 13.1V they powered everything for two day without even showing any depletion. So this idea that they are not charging fully does not make sense. All indications show that they...

Batteries really depleted overnight or is it a BMS problem?

Greetings all, I have just begun my new boon dock life in my travel trailer. I am in the process of upgrading the solar system on the trailer since it comes from the factory with only one tender battery and one 165w panel to charge it. In the interest of time and the need to power everything...
