Just read this on my phone. I am surprised it is not being discussed here on the forum, or I am missing it?
"California’s utility regulator unanimously voted Thursday to significantly reduce subsidies for rooftop solar installations, sparking outrage among solar industry leaders and marking an end to a years-long battle over the scope of incentives that supported the industry’s growth".

Not for existing installations though. Buy batteries folks.

Every threat represents an opportunity. Those installers that can pivot and provide a product that can combine solar with batteries may be able to survive this market transition.

It's bad. Battery technology and cost is no where it needs to be to use storage as an alternative from this switch to NEM 3.0. Will likely follow similar path Nevada and Hawaii had to go through when they went through something similar. Mad scramble through April 14, 2023 to get grandfathered into NEM 2.0 and then I'm sure solar install demand will nose dive.

This is precisely why we installed an off-grid system last spring. We just got the last of the panels up last month and now produce most of our own electricity. Still need the grid for some of the equipment in the shop, but instead of receiving letters from Edison condemning our excessive use compared to our neighbors, we now receive letters praising us for conserving energy. The less they know, the happier we'll all be.

Part of what the CPUC said, translated: Well, it turns out that the old program that we though was right, is actually wrong, but what we're mandating now is the right way, trust us.

“Net energy metering is effectively funded by ratepayers that do not have solar, and the tab makes up about 10% to 20% of the average customer’s monthly bill”

They're just now figuring this out??? It's bad to screw the non-solar ratepayers now, but it was good in the past?

This is BS. I buy plenty of grid electricity outside of summer. My winter production on a sunny day is 1/4 that of summer.

They’re just making up excuses to pay their pension plans and settlements for all the fires they’ve caused.

They want you to buy batteries. And they want you to have an inverter that they control and can use your battery to sell to the grid whenever they want. Thats the plan. Make you pay for their storage shortfall.
Big change from 8 years ago when my install was completed. Back then no battery export was allowed to arbitrage the rate.
I let them shut off my A/C but I am not going to have the utility controlling my whole system.

This is what my old electric company used to send me monthly to show how my usage compared. I would laugh every month as my usage would always be less than 1/2 of what an "Efficient Home" used but they would still offer tips and suggestions on cutting down my usage. Keep in mind I had no solar or energy star appliances, upgraded insulation. Just a standard 1500 sq ft home built in the 50's and all natural gas with a couple of 10K BTU window AC units for the summer.

Now I just want to be off the grid and free from their "smart meters". They want you to get all this "smart" crap so they can control your system remotely. At least that's the stated end game of the build back better agenda.

Sorry to mention it but solar/utilities is the least of your problems there. You are about to get trapped in a socialist/communist/NWO utopia.

Lets see if the mods delete this
Oh I don't know about that. I live in an Orange County city where anything goes. No HOA'S, minimal government involvement. We pretty much do what we want to do here. I'm within walking distance to all the stores but its much more fun to fire up the Hemi and make the short drive in luxury. Some of the lowest sales tax in the state. Everyone wants to move here because of our unheard of freedoms. LA to the north is where all the scary stuff is going down. Banning natural gas in new construction, all new homes must have socialized solar power, all rainwater that falls on your property must now be collected. Pure insanity. Unsupportable insanity. It will all catch up with them some day soon while those of us down south sit back and watch it unravel.

Thats interesting. It really is a mix of every kind there. I left in 2011. I'm Cal native of 35 years. Lived under the thumb of the coastal commission. The poster child of over bearing far left control. I wonder where they plan on getting all the silver for all the panels they plan on installing? People don't understand how much silver is in a panel. You can see it all if one just looks. There is less above ground silver than gold! Some day, panels will become to expensive and the ones we do have will need to be chained down from theft.

Lots of bitching about elected governments again lol.

The price of a home is determined foremost by what the people are able and willing to pay. A home in an undesirable neighborhood, regardless if it is remote and without access to the grid, in a rundown part of town, few job opertunities, no decent public transport, on a flood plane, bad schools, etc will be cheaper than in a place that has good facilities. House prices in California are crazy right now, adding solar with batteries and ground source heat pump as a requirement to build a home will be less than 10% of the cost of a new home there. The price of the land will simply go down by the same amount because people just can't pay more. Bad for the land owner, good for the solar installer and home owner who will have lower energy bills.

People usually don't complain till it affects them. Perhaps that is why the volume is going up? Its a sad day when politics affects your solar panels but here we are. I guess they are running out of things to take control of. Next year they will want remote control of your dog, can only poop during certain hours due to methane....LOL

There has been lots of changes to grid tie recently to support political ideology more than to the support the person making the effort.

2022...the year the conspiracy folk where proven right. Strange times indeed. You all have now been shown what you are getting long term with the preview of the last 2 years. I guess just pick your society by location now? Don't complain down the road when the "Utopia" rug gets pulled out. Me? I GTFO and went to a more free state. I know when its to late to save a sinking ship.
