Can I have two breaker boxes? One for essentials and one for non-essentials?

I have an ecoworks 5000w 48v inverter, 8 200w panels and three 100ah lifepo4 batteries.

We have frequent blackouts where I live, and I was thinking to have a dedicated circuit breaker box for the essentials (fridge, water well pump). Power from the grid would come through the main breaker box, into the inverter. The essentials box would be powered by batteries in the case of failure of the mains.

My question is, does this approach make sense? Or is there a better way?

I am new to this. Thank you.

what you are wanting to do is a critical loads panel
yes if some requirements are met ie pass thru on inverter is capable of running loads on the panel

Yes, many folks go with a critical load panel. The grid feeds your inverter charger or an AIO for AC input. It has a pass through feature (Bypass) if there is insufficient DC power for the AIO or inverter to operate. This operates like a uninterruptible power supply.
