Charging inverter capacitors

Watched Will Prowse video on using a resistor when connecting negative terminal from inverter to battery to avoid spark. He attached 25 w 30 ohm resistor between negative cable to battery, then touched other end to negative battery terminal. Then he said turn on inverter and try output. Not sure I understand. Does the inverter not have to be on when you do this?

No it doesn’t have to be on. It can be either the negative or positive side. The inrush of current from lithium iron phosphate can be enough to blow the capacitors. So the resistor provides a safer low current to precharge them.
