China is urging families to stock up on food as supply challenges multiply

There is no turning back till it kills the system.
Then ‘we’ need to fire the government. We have that power but the decline of the intellect of the masses somehow remains delusional. Some don’t like unky joe, some didn’t like trump, some didn’t like obama, some didn’t…bush, clinton, bush, Reagan et al. Some didn’t like January 6th or the tea party movement. But people won’t vote for stuff that makes any sense!!

The 2008/2010 tea party situation I thought might have rectified some of this junk but alas it flashed and burned (wikipedia defines it as a movement within the republican party which is hilariously innacurate to me as it had more more liberal airs and libertarian overtones than republican tenets)

But the government does need to be fired. It’s no longer a government for the people by the people or if the people.
And people aren’t willing to open their eyes and ears- most people don’t even know what the government is up to they just regurgitate the news and parrot stuff they don’t understand that might have been said by somebody they think is smart.

Wake up America: we don’t have to kill the system to recover!

The people did fire Trump. Joe has stopped the military spending in Afghanistan and is spending money on domestic issues instead. Never perfect but I like this plan better than the track we had been on.

Why does Trump decry the spending bill as a gift to Democrats? Are we going to paint the new bridges blue and check party affiliation to cross?

Why does Trump call the Democrats "socialists"? Trump wants to ignore the voting part of democracy and have the government officials appointed by committee starting with himself as president. This sounds more like socialist style government. I prefer we respect the power of voting. The Democratic party continues to endorse actual democracy.

Ever since we stepped away from gold standard, our debt is kept increasing exponentially, no matter who is/was the president. Our GDP is lagging behind our debt now. Everybody knows that we CAN'T pay our debt, so just keep spending till we declare bankrupt? Perhaps, selling our infra-structure to settle our debt? like in Greece?

I don’t really think the spending matters ?
We where never paying it back , a trillion here a trillion there ?‍♂️
it one big iou and around we go , the American people Are used as collateral
Then there is the military

I figured this would go all political. Sad... I do like the fact that people put out information to give folks ideas on how to take care of themselves in lieu of expecting help from the government or strangers.

Thank you all who have shared your ideas and information and at tried to "help". Please don't feel ridiculed by those who don't agree with your methods of taking care of you or your family.

If or when the time comes, hopefully they can rely on their "opinions" to get them through whatever hardship they encounter singing Bob Marley's "Everything's going to be all right" along the way.

That article, like most BS, is only 50% accurate and is full of distortions.

The article is talking about people who are "reactive".. not proactive. People who's lives are basically one long string of reactive behaviors would fall into what that article is discussing. Unfortunately, the truth seems to be that this is accurate for the overwhelming majority of people.

But the article is titled "why do people stockpile", which implies its an article about preppers.. and its not.. its an article about panic shoppers.. A hurricane is headed their way, so they panic shop.. a pandemic hits, they panic shop.. These are all reactive behaviors..

The part that talks about people's decision making being hampered when they are stressed is kind of comical.. While it is true that being stressed can hamper one's analytical skills, most of the population have little or no analytical skills to be hampered. Their lives are, once again, long strings of bad decisions and poor choices.

Some of us make bad choices once in a while.. but for most of the population, bad choices are standard operating procedure. People base their decisions not on what they know, because they know very little, but on what they're told by others... Hence, we end up with antivaxxers, people who think 5G is bad, people who think elections were stolen, people who think ghosts are real, and people who generally aren't very skilled at thinking at all..

There's a word for them: Sheepole = do what you're told and think what we want you to think.

Perhaps, selling our infra-structure to settle our debt? like in Greece?
China owns a lot of US Treasuries. I know many individual Chinese that have invested in US real estate. Apparently, from a global perspective the US is still considered a safe investment. It is a complicated world and my study of economics was so long ago that I am not sure what is relevant. Even my Chicago School of Economics Professors that said, "Gold is good." admitted that we are all Keynesians now.

Gold standard was not perfect either. Money supply could not be expanded during the Great Depression and may have contributed to the depression itself.

The problem with most of these political discussions is that 99% of us really have no idea why one thing happens and another does not. We have this new bunch of expert media pundits who like to frame everything with a crayon and push the blame on the person who made the decision. Take for example the pull out in Afghanistan. The chaos was quickly labeled as a mistake by the administration, "they should have been better prepared", "they should have gotten all the Americans out first." OK Really Mr Foxy news!!

We are pulling out of a country and leaving a well armed democratic regime in control and also letting the people know "we have confidence in you to now be able to handle the situation". True or Not this is the only message you can send unless you want to have riots in the streets and people blocking your withdrawal and not to mention the biggest factor, guaranteeing that the Taliban is going to win because you have already instilled fear and doom into the population.

So going with the Argument from some unhappy people. What we should have done was evacuate every US citizen in advance, then close the Embassy, evacuate the staff and lastly remove every modern weapon that the Afghan army had and then say oh yeah we have all the confidence in the world you will be alright, just ignore that we are all leaving now and taking the useful weapons with us. Really! That is basically what they are saying we should have done.

About the only thing that went wrong with the withdrawal is that the Afghan government and Army had less of a spine than I think anybody could have ever expected. Even a moderate amount of resistance would have delayed the Taliban's advance by weeks if not months and the US could have quickly added back in air support to make every advance very painful and slow. Instead the Afghan Army threw down their guns and left.

You really need to quit watching CNN. Every one of your statements can be proven inaccurate. Joe is spending 10% of our money we don’t have on “domestic issues”. Ask yourself where the rest is going and watch during the next election who is donating the most to the Democratic Party. You will have your answer. It’s called leverage and is used to keep power and control. It’s not going back into infrastructure. You’re only being told that so you have a warm fuzzy feeling over your party. You act like the government is here to take care of you. That’s where you are wrong. It’s not their job to take care of you. It’s their job to use you so they can take care of their own interests. We don’t need bigger government.

The only citizens left behind wanted to stay in Afghanistan. All war is chaotic, why would this be any different? There was 20 years to prepare to leave.... eventually the band-aid needs to be ripped off. We could have been there another 20 years preparing to leave with the same result. Biden succeeded here where Bush, Obama (2x) and trump failed.

what "domestic issues" are in the infrastructure bill? Link?

I can take care of myself thank you very much. And I will reiterate that I am very happy all this money will be wasted in our own country instead of continuing to rebuild Afghanistan.

You missed the point. All this money is not staying in our own country. You need to find different sources other than cnn and fox to get your information. Very little is staying in this country. You’ve been duped!

Just about everywhere you look you can find these numbers. Do your own research. But here is a link for you from your favorite news outlet showing that the numbers don’t add up. I trust that you have a calculator?

(CNN)Congress passed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure package Friday, approving a signature part of President Joe Biden'seconomic agenda.
It will deliver $550 billion of new federal investments in America's infrastructure over five years, touching everything from bridges and roads to the nation's broadband, water and energy systems. Experts say the money is sorely needed to ensure safe travel, as well as the efficient transport of goods and produce across the country.
