So I designed and built these cases using 3mm Russian Baltic Birch. I designed them in Fusion 360 and cut them on my laser cutter. They are home to 270ah 12v Lishen Lifepo4 cells. The cases are surprisingly strong when using Baltic Birch glued together with the "finger" joints. Inside the cases, I use high-density foam to cushion the cells. The cells are not compressed on purpose but I do have them held together tightly packed using Kapton tape and card stock as spacers. I am using the same 120A BMS used by Overkill Solar. The terminals are isolated from the case by way of bushing built into the terminal to avoid any chance of moisture picked up by the wood shorting the terminal.

thats a nice case, very pretty. Is the orientation of the cells the final placement? i have seen it said that while they operate fine, if there is a problem and they vent out the cap, it’s a terrible mess. Or worse.

Will has had cells leak when on their side, but no proof as to the orientation causing it, but we usually recommend against it.
