disconnecting and balancing batteries

If you have a 12v charger only just give the lowest battery a boost. Then move to the next lowest and continue until the victron balancer kicks on.
No need to disconnect anything.

Yes ultimately may need more solar or reduce the load to fill the batteries.
 
I suggest grabbing a couple of cheap HA01 24v balancers from ebay/amazon. They worked really well for me. They will correctly any imbalance.
 
Sorry, I don't quite follow this suggestion. Can you elaborate?
12V batteries used in series will always go out of balance, it will get worse as they age.

The victron battery balancer will struggle to keep the batteries in the balanced state that each individual BMS requires.

If you have a 12V solar controller for each individual 12V battery, each battery will maintain its own balance. The balance between batteries is no longer important.

This is the only way I will use drop in batteries in series - otherwise you will be chasing balance throughout the life of the batteries.
