Enphase MicroInverter IQ series

Hi,
I want to buy the Enphase microInverter IQ series for experiment. I don't care about the AC it will produce but I do need the whole solar system to be minimal.
I want the minimum solar panel amount with the minimum watt. Basically my only need is to power up and microinverter and connect it to the IQ gateway to manage it.
Connect the MicroInverter to the IQ gateway isn't enough to only power on the both of them?
So I would like for some guideline\tutorial which help to achieve minimal solar system with Enphase microinverter and IQ gateway with only one solar panel.

IQ gateway is only 5 watts. Why wouldn't any enphase microinverter and panel be enough?

BTW: what is the "experiment". There may be cheaper options.

Get a microinverter off eBay. Connect to a few batteries in series to act at solar DC source.
