Seems to pave the way for VPPs in the U.S. I can see EV and powerwall owners being thrilled about this as:
  • A Storm Guard/watch like features ensures there's power if they need it
  • Even without solar they can buy cheap power at night for resale at high TOU rates.
  • Tesla Powerwalls are ready now for VPPs, EV owners will be ready to join a DER aggregator soon with V2G
  • Generic Powerwalls would have a "pay-back" period, not just for emergency backup
  • You can hypermile the pack by cycling at lower DoD (e.g., 70 to 30%)
  • Cheaper storage technologies with higher self-discharges become more viable as the energy is only stored for hours.
Tesla's obviously well poised with this since they've a working technology in place already. Honda might be ready too. Not so sure about Enphase.
