how to connect an Alpha Outback, SPC-Series-III-7200-48 to B-LFP-48-100E 3U Battery Pack?

I recently got B-LFP-48-100E 3U but seem unable to get it working with an Alpha Outback, SPC-Series-III-7200-48. They both support communications via the pylon protocol, so I'm guessing it's a cable and/or port issue.

OK, finally got things working with the impressive help of Alpha Technologies in Germany, BSL Batteries in China and Ultratec in Uganda, so a truly global solution. I want to share this solution here in case anyone else needs it.

The RS485 cable pinouts required are:


I had to update the inverter's (Alpha) firmware to the latest version (v69.68) and set the battery to master via the DIP switch.

We had a few mishaps on the way, mainly because the serial cable we used had a fault. I'm not even going to say how long it took to find the cause of that one—it was an embarrassingly long time, to say the least.

Oh, and it seems the Outback Alpha can be considered a Voltronic inverter, it helped me out no end knowing that.
