I just completed a solar retrofit for a 30 Amp RV. When I started I really had no idea what direction this would take me. With guidance from the content on https://explorist.life I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
Nate’s team has built a great set of wiring diagrams and wiring kits that take what seems like a daunting task and provides just enough guidance to make this project very doable.
Probably the best $10 I spent on the project was his 30 Amp RV Retrofit high resolution wiring diagram. It put all the pieces together that I was missing. This is what I ended up with:
- 1200 watts of solar using 6 X 200 watt Rich Solar Panels
- 2000 kVA Victron Multiplus 2 inverter
- Victron Smart Solar 150|85 MPPT
- Victron Lynx Distributor
- Victron 12V DC-DC charger
- Victron BMV 712 Battery monitor
- 2 X 12v 250ah Chins batteries with low temperature sensing in parallel for 500ah
- Extensively used Nate’s wiring kits in the process
I also used a RaspberryPi with VenusOS to provide monitoring capabilities. I added a relay board and Ruuvi temperature sensor to control a fan to cool down the compartment as required.
It’s been in production for about a month and seems to be doing well.
