Right, and that's what I was asking.

@BrianVeg bought 6000xp which is an off grid inverter. So if one is using an off grid inverter then ul shouldn't be required ?
There may be a house insurance consideration to take into account, if they stipulate ul listing in the fine print.
 
I think we hijaked this thread.

The State of Michigan states: “A person shall not equip a building with electrical conductors or equipment or make an alteration of, change in, or addition to, electrical conductors or equipment without receiving a permit to do the work described.”

Since I was making changes to the electrical infrastructure with by creating a critical loads panel, adding a battery backup and by connecting the AC In circuits of the 6000XP from the grid I believed I needed a permit.

I also wanted to make sure I had a passed inspection to fall back on for home insurance considerations.
