  • Post in thread: 10 Panels in PV Array Series -- combiner box or disconnect?

What I found online for the lv6548 is that it has 2 MPPTs that accept up to 250V, and there's a V model (LV6548V) that accepts up to 390V. I think you might be confusing the watts with the volts, and you might actually damage something if you hook up those 10 panels in series together without...
  • Post in thread: Who is actually manufacturing this inverter?

My bad if I'm just stirring the pot here, but thought putting this out there could be useful. I honestly always had a good impression of Sol-Ark until reading this thread. I've gone more budget stuff myself because I enjoy tinkering a bit, but for people who asked me about solar I would...

You want 1 disconnect for each string in this case.

Well that shunt by itself is like 9% of the cost of the whole battery, which has cells, casing and a BMS. I'm sure that if Victron sold you a Server Rack Battery it would be much more expensive than 1 EG4 + 1 Shunt. :P

The 2A thing was confirmed by someone from SS in this thread. I also tried it with my bench PSU and was able to consistently go from not charging to 2A by increasing and decreasing the amperage in the lab bench a few milliamps. I'm optimistic it may just be a firmware bug and next update will...
  • Post in thread: Replacing FANS inside the EG4 6500EX-48 to make it quiet

Did anyone go ahead and try this? I just installed these and they are way too loud and I need to do something about it. If no one has done it but anyone wants to share what fans you were thinking of using to start me off, I'm willing to be the guinea pig because the noise is very much unbearable.

Some extra info from my end. While I also have the issue where currents under 2 amps are not shown, my SOC% still updates. I wonder if maybe the BMS is actually sensitive up to 500ma but the reporting is not providing the info between 500 and 2000 mA. Also for mine it was exactly 2.0amps where...

Yes I have 2 6500ex installed powering my whole home in split phase. I was actually pretty surprised as well when I felt the hot air coming out of the bottom vents after installation.

@TheHappyNomads If you post a picture of your panel specs we can give you more certain answers on your best string combinations.
  • Post in thread: 6 EG4 rack batteries SOC issue

Yes exactly. The way software is usually built you increase each number individually. I have plenty of software at work on like version 2.437.0 and you definitely don't need to preallocate zeroes to get to more digits.

I just tried this today and my cell alarm triggered. I think I either have a super out of balance battery or a bad cell, and I'm leaning towards a bad cell. The cell undervoltage alarm triggered at total voltage of like 49.7. A few seconds later I got the SOC undervoltage alarm, but not sure if...

Ok, I'm gonna charge it with my bench power supply and just leave it isolated from the pack for a few days. while the bench PSU handles top balancing. Will report back progress and thanks for all the help.
  • Post in thread: EG4 Lifepower4 48V Top Balancing Firmware.

Was it full pack or cell overvoltage? @Zapper77 showed a screenshot from a firmware that the max voltage set above the alarm voltage. If you had that Firmware it would be very likely to have caused pack overvoltage alarms.
  • Post in thread: EG4 Communication Hub - Fuse

Yep, 14 AWG should be 15A so you undersizing is great! Glad you got that handled and were able to make your system safer.
  • Post in thread: EG4 Lifepower4 48V Top Balancing Firmware.

That's a good idea. I isolated the battery but left it on comms while charging so I can monitor through SolarAssistant. Everything looking good up until now. Hope this battery gets itself back together after all this.

Where did you find this 57.1? The changelog that I downloaded with the firmware states:
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar Tech Support...Ghosting?

Yeah, or have unshrouded probes cross accidentally. This is a good idea and would save me having to press the shutter button, but getting an angle where it was clear the probes were touching the PV terminals took some moving around because there's a few wires and what I think is a toroid on...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Lifepower4 48V Top Balancing Firmware.

Update: The really imbalanced battery is is still very imbalanced, the process will take a really long time to get as good as the rest of the batteries I think. I'm considering pulling it out, popping the cover and using my bench PSU to get the low cell/s up closer and reduce the imbalance, but...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Lifepower4 48V Top Balancing Firmware.

How sure are you about not being able to get boot info? I've been struggling to get this update going and I think that might be why, but I think I was misled by the video linked earlier where he was able to get boot info but then shows a current of 6 amps going (his solar did also kick in right...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Lifepower4 48V Top Balancing Firmware.

Are you at 0 battery current? I had the same issue and it was because there was current flowing in/out of the battery at a detectable rate. In my case I could also do system time on the batteries but could not write to batteries. I also had issues with drivers on my m1 mac but after manually...
  • Post in thread: solar assistant and rasberry pi

TBH I think you're the one complicating a simple thing. This system is just acting as a Standalone part of the Solar Setup that doesn't consume much power or physical space. Supporting more OSes is an unnecessary complication. Supporting more CPU architectures is an unnecessary complication. At...
  • Post in thread: New Supplier for 280Ah cells: Shenzen Basen

@Haugen Are you going to be capacity testing these cells? I've been waiting to see what your order ended up like to see if I order some myself and I'm pretty much ready to bite the bullet, but if you're gonna capacity test them any time soon I might wait until that.
  • Post in thread: 10 Panels in PV Array Series -- combiner box or disconnect?

Yes. The other commenters here assumed 48 Voc so I think their suggesstions are already up to spec with your panel. I have no experience with using solar panels in the cold (my house is in the caribbean) and have no experience with these Voc fluctuations they mentioned. Just to be sure, you...
  • Post in thread: Terrible Signature Solar / EG4 18Kpv Experience - Returning and Replaced with Sol-Ark 15k

Absolutely. I had an issue with a 6500ex and their support was subpar and the way I managed to get them to pay their attention was to complain on the forum. They asked me to do so much troubleshooting of my connections for a system that had been running non-stop for months. I'm also considered...
  • Post in thread: Replacing FANS inside the EG4 6500EX-48 to make it quiet

Are you asking if its common for db readings to be included? Or if people finding the noise to be too loud a common thing?
  • Post in thread: Replacing FANS inside the EG4 6500EX-48 to make it quiet

I don't think it's common but these fans are loud. I have some LV2424s for other stuff and the fan on my 6500EXs are so much louder. Like, embarrasingly loud. I know the LV2424s also have to handle less power so its a somewhat unfair comparison but wow did it shock me how much louder my 6500EXs...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Communication Hub - Fuse

Reviving this late but what gauge is the wire? You can just get a fuse rated for the ampacity of the wire gauge it comes with.
  • Post in thread: EG4 Inverters Couldn't Make The Grade

I guess this makes it the second 18K to get returned?
  • Post in thread: EG4 Communication Hub - Fuse

Just to make sure, did you pick a fuse rated for the the thinnest cable in the string?
