Long after SHTF and nothing with silicon in it works for a long time, some kid is going to kick my long dead corpse off of my console and blow the dust off the still functioning analog volt and amp meters that were produced in the 1960's
I've been a member for some time but this is my second post. This site and another site formerly called gearslutz.com (now gearspace.com) is where I spend my spare time or time standing in lines, waiting on hold, etc. Historically I have not logged in to read posts. By the way this is an...
MOV - Metal Oxide Varistor
They are cheaper than gas tube varistors but when a MOV fails it can fail short which is the event they are supposed to protect against.
All of my MC4's are of the same generic no name brand. I wonder if it would be wise to use dielectric grease to lube the o-rings and mating contact surfaces, and to block moisture ingress.
And it's old if it still exists.
I used to work for a prominent permanent install AV and lightning outfit. In 2012 my work mate sent these photos to me with the caption "wire porn" ? I hope this is on topic.
California is leading the way, just like seat belts and emission controls in cars. All small ICE power equipment is in the books to be phased out and banned for sale. Lawnmowers, generators, leaf blowers, chain saws, everything.
I believe it's wise to have some vehicles on hand that are fueled with carbs and sparked with point ignition, if living through an apocalypse is your jam.
Mechanical timepieces may be handy, if knowing the time of day in an apocalypse is your jam.
That's probably the only guaranteed advantage...
I'm admittedly OCD and whenever I see "800$" instead of $800, a trouble lamp goes off in my head. Everyone has seen the dollar symbol used properly and not properly in the context of posting to a forum.
Hello, I'm no expert but I can say that after some time here, wind power doesn't get a lot of love on these forums. Hydro, a little more but it's pretty lonely here for moving parts that produce noise friction etc. I do know that people talk a lot about Midnite solar brand devices having...
If you appreciate Captain Nemo art deco design, there are examples with 4" faces and 6" faces with an increase in resolution as you go up in dial size.
Not everyones ideal meter and no histograms
I know what you mean. I have found that building something with the minimum amount of 80/20 components can save money but make for headaches later on. Your racks for example could be much more elaborate with quick release friction adjustment on the shelves, and other do-dads and widgets, but...
Who certified the machine shop? Was the tool a $20 driver or a $300 wrench? I don't think any of that matters much. This is one case, it's more telling if it's an isolated case or is common with this batch of cells.
Were all geeks here, right?
Again, no affiliation but if anyone watching is not familiar with Tech Ingredients on YT ...
This family is legit. Early videos show some pulsed dye laser kit built on an 80/20 cart.
That red fiberglass top costs $1900 in a one inch thick 4x8 sheet. And I want one...
Semiconductors in all forms, shapes and sizes makes my world a better place day to day.
I'm old enough to know what living with a vacuum tube color TV is like.
This wireless "telephone" in my hands replaces 100 tools.
I laugh when I see advertisements for ECO electric leaf blowers that tout 560 CFM, "more power than gas"
My 80cc Husky 580 has a 4" duct and blows over 900 CFM. Nope, no longer for sale in CA.
The 18V LXT Makita batteries that are "double thick", i.e. every battery except the "single thick" 1.5AH batteries are 6S2P. The 1.5AH is 6S.
All of the 6S2P batteries ignore the parallel cells and treat as 6S. Are the cells closely matched at the factory to make it irrelevant? I don't know...
Watch YT videos where the presenter uses the same 3/8 drive wrench to "tighten spark plugs properly" at 11 foot pounds, and in other videos uses the same wrench to "tighten wheel lugs properly" at 78 foot pounds. no no no
Thanks @AlpineJoe, @CoolWill
I'm looking to use Hubbell cord ends, M/F, as one would prepare an extension cord. My concern is the crush terminals in the cord ends that typically are used for stranded wire. It's probably ok, but I thank you for letting me run it past you. :)
It's not the way...
I'm sure Loretta Lynch has something to say about this, not that it matters much since she's out of office. A true expert on the subject though.
[edit] I still have some hope that she has influence on .ca.gov and the CPUC
I can't speak from personal experience, but of the products you mentioned, complaints about Victron products, sales and service don't crop up much on these forums. To me that says a lot. The others, well you can read hundreds of pages. ?
