Awesome thread, thanks guys. Let me respond:
@Saber36 #1 - are you talking about the Model3 cell battery I linked? Specs are there, and answer #2 is it uses Model 3 cells. #3 is true, but when I have 4 or 8 of these in parallel, no longer an issue. Will not be starting battery. #4 ACR is a term...
Please do not think these offerings by BigBattery.com are "marine"
While I have not specifically purchased any of these, I spent weeks going back and forth with BB trying to get information for these for use in my boat. They have no idea what is even means to be "marine", and Will's teardowns...
Id remove the terminals you have mounted on the case, and have wires from BMS coming straight through a hole with grommet. Then should go straight to fuse and busbars. These style terminals will loosen with vibration.
Also, get rid of that soft foam and at put some great stuff expanding foam...
@sailing gal
The temp sensor is $30 for balmar regulator.
you might be best off leaving your current setup (add temp probe) and a battery to battery charger that is 80a or so.
Was about to pull trigger on the A123 LifePo4 from BigBattery to build a 24V 600ah bank in a boat.
Then theres a group buy of 280ah aluminum encased cells.
Want the safest batteries/etc --- wondering what is recommended as there are many types/price points.
A123 - 24v 100ah $650ea - $270/kwh...
Have 24V alternator. Just bought a Balmar Mc-624 voltage regulator.
Looking to install 24v lithium house bank using these: https://bigbattery.com/product/24v-100ah-li-ion-battery-box/
Have 24V 8D starting batteries
Should I just put a ACR between them? Then alternator to lead acid, or...
The generator on this is 175kw - crazy amount of power.
I just found out these wont work...they are only 7s batteries, and the current SOC is actualy what its designed for. I need 24V. Damn...
I mean, it kind of does that right? Alternator turns full amps to charge batteries, then it goes down to no output. Same amount of fuel/power provided the efficiency is the same at all RPM (im sure it isnt, but probably a negligible amount difference realistically).
Essentially, because there...
Have an opportunity to buy very cheap A123 24V 8s Lifepo4 batteries units from a late model Fisker.
These are 7 years old, with "Low mileage". I know most poeple are buying new batteries...the discount is too much not to consider this, so im wondering about the expected life/longevity of these...
Sorry am more concerned with the lead wire adapter piece. Someone else here is trying to find what works with this battery so you dont have to splice in wires...and not bigbattery is out of these. Thank you!
Wow, I was pretty close to that solution, but am glad to see this as the only reason I was going to put a lead acid in line was to absorb any voltage spike.
Im thinking this combiner as it goes both ways
https://www.victronenergy.com/battery-isolators-and-combiners/cyrix-battery-combiners
Yeah...the parts are pretty cool. If only I had space for a full engine. Generators off tehse can be had on ebay for like $500...mount to any motoro you want then not a camry engine.
thanks for the info on cell voltage resting. How long should I wait between charge and rest measurement a day...
Have close up photos?
So If I wanted to copy (as will use overkill BMS as well). Seems like it advisable just to buy the adapter from bigbattery and toss the 8-wire part.
Im looking at 600ah so 6 BMS and 6 adapter add a lot to the bottom line.
Im looking to insteall this exact system and am glad I came across this thread. Great diagrams too! (what did you use for it?)
The Victron Phoenix has a rest mode - it shuts off when no load is attached. Turns on to check for load every 3 seconds. Just thought Id throw that in here as I read...
Looking forwards to this so I dont have to buy the $20 ones from bigbattery.
Can anyone answer if these can be used standing on non-BMS end? Or can you stack on top of eachother easily?
