  • Post in thread: Can't Increase Eg4 6500 Battery Charge Rate w EG4 LifePower4

Yeah!! Everything is working great. The solar no longer curtails and I'm able to charge the car and run the heater when the sun is dow . I upgraded again today and bought 10 more panels and 2 more batteries. Honestly kicking myself for not buying a bundle right away. Would have saved myself a...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar - What roof mounting system

Hi! For what it's worth, I have S-shaped tile roof, and I'm going to give the split, mini-rails a try. Got 4 of these kits and will see if that does it. I looked at IronRidge and it was close to $1,000 for 10 panels. This was 200 after buying 1 extra...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Ac input function(s)

Yes. Use the setting for "SBU" priority. That's solar, then battery, and then utility power. The EG4 will then go through the input sources, in that order, to determine the best way to meet demand.
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX48 bypass mode settings

Hi, I was getting the dreaded error 61 when I first worked on my stack. The Cat5 cable that comes with the EG4 6500s for battery communication is a special cable with a special pin out pattern. 1 side of the cable is for the inverter and 1 side for the battery. I don't remember exactly...
  • Post in thread: Tesla Cybertruck System

It'd be wise to decide at what rate you want to be able to charge. As Sunshine mentioned, to go from 0 to 100% on the cybertruck in a day is going to be really difficult to pull off. Maybe the best you'd manage is 3 days. My thought is, if you already have the 2 MPP LV6048 inverters, give...
  • Post in thread: Programable Smart Load for Ac and Water Heater

I have a EG4-18K and the Smart Load function isn't complex enough. I have more solar capacity than I can use during the day, and I have more loads than I can run all at once. I'd there any device that can communicate with Smart water heaters, Smart thermostats? I have more solar than I can...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX48 bypass mode settings

I think I am. I have 3 batteries, and when running 2 EG4-6500s the total stack will drops maybe 10% to 15% over night with no load. Rumor has it that each inverter has a 300 watt idle consumption. So, that's 600 Watts times 8 hours of darkness. That'd be 4.8 kWhs each night to run for 8 hours...
  • Post in thread: Do Hybrid Inverters pull from Grid/Solar/Battery at the same time?

Do inverters take from all 3 sources at once to get to their maximum AC Output potential? In a simple example, if I had 2 EG4s, in parallel, with a total AC output of 13,000 Watts could that come from 4,500 watts of solar, 1 LifePower4 outputting of 4,300 watts from the battery (until it's...
  • Post in thread: Complete guide for 48V using EG4 18k

Hi! What are your feelings about skipping the Solar Disconnect and using the On/Off switch on the side of the 18K. Using that, instead of the IMO 8 Pole Switch. Any ideas on pro's and cons? The one thing I'd note is I'm using a combiner box on the roof, so I can disconnect power there if I need...
  • Post in thread: Tesla Cybertruck System

I'm in AZ and I charge my car with solar and run my AC. I charge at 25 AMPs for the car and leave 25 AMPs for the AC so I can run both at the same time. If you're only wanting to charge the car, you could charge at the full 50 AMPs. I agree that there is some missing information in your post...
  • Post in thread: Complete guide for 48V using EG4 18k

Makes sense. To me, code is the only factor. That On/Off functions the same as a disconnect. So an inverter inside and 2 feet away from an IMO disconnect is redundant. Better off the save the disconnect and put it outside to be compliant.
  • Post in thread: Can't Increase Eg4 6500 Battery Charge Rate w EG4 LifePower4

Ben! The legend! Thanks for the information. I'm wanting to add some batteries in the future, but maybe I should do it now to avoid reducing the health of the 1 I have now. Might take advantage of the black Friday sale and grab 2 more. Thanks for the note!
  • Post in thread: EG4 Ac input function(s)

Give me 2 weeks and I'll experiment with setting AC input draw limits and seeing what options exist. I'm also guessing a 15 amp 120 AC input would take 6-8 hours to charge a 5.5 kWh battery. So, that should be a consideration as well. I think Will is right that this is a more powerful option...
  • Post in thread: Do Hybrid Inverters pull from Grid/Solar/Battery at the same time?

Ha! I'm hoping to save myself some troubles, too! Vigo, given what you've learned, do you think the Growatt 5kW Stackable inverters may be a better fit for me than the EG4s given my desire to have more load sharing between AC and DC inputs? I'm in the market for the all in 1 hybrid solutions...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Ac input function(s)

I don't know if the inverter can be programmed to only draw a specifc amperage for AC unput, yet. I'm finishing up my installation, so I don't know if you can set the amps it draws when plugged into the grid. I can say 12 gauge wouldn't cut it when charging and an extension cord would melt if...
  • Post in thread: EG4 18K PV1 Input Volts

Hi, thank you. I actually didn't know that. I feel kinda silly for not having put that together. Thanks for taking the time to let me know! I already have two lines run, but I think I'm still going to combine them as I like the lighting protector in the combiner box better than the one I'm...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX Lights flickering

I've got 2 EG4 6500s and my bathroom lights flicker sometimes. I haven't spent enough time to figure out exactly when it occurs. I'll just add my input to the list that I see this to. It isn't bad, it's only 1 room for me. It happens to be the room next to where my inverters are located. The...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX48 bypass mode settings

I run my system to lower my power bill. I charge via solar in the day, and use that power at night. If I were to charge the battery at night, it'd be full in the AM and I wouldn't utilize solar as much. It wouldn't reduce my bill as much if I do it that way. You're 100% correct, my setup...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX-48 F69 fault code

Hi! I'm getting the Error 69 on only 1 of my batteries. I've switch to USE yesterday and am going to let it cycle a few times. So far, it's still not discharging. What settings did you end up using for all your voltage threesholds? THanks!
  • Post in thread: Solar String Configuration w Safety Margin to Remain Below Voc

Thank you! I didn't realize that cold caused Voc to increase. I see the graph of Voc change by temp for my panels now. If I plan for -2 Celsius that is our record cold. At 0 C that graph looks like 108% of Voc. So, let's call it 110% of Voc (that absolutely tells me I shouldn't put 10 panels...
  • Post in thread: Using 50 AMP Input for EG4 Inverter

I'm going to connect my AC input to the grid, so I don't have to worry about a generator. So, that's the good news. I just want to find a way to set the inverters to not overload my wire and trip the breaker if I use undersized wire as the input. As I say this, it really doesn't seem like the...
  • Post in thread: Can't Increase Eg4 6500 Battery Charge Rate w EG4 LifePower4

Great idea! As a test, I'll unplug my com cable, update setting 5 to be "Use" instead of "EG4", then use setting 26 to set my "Bulk Charge Voltage" to 56V (this is from the EG4 manual that says "56V Recommended"). Does that sound about right? Do I need to adjust my float charge voltage or Low...
  • Post in thread: Solar String Configuration w Safety Margin to Remain Below Voc

I'm using the EG4-6500 inverters as my charge controller. The Inverter has an max Input current of 18 AMPs (on each MPPT Input) and a max 500 V Open Circuit for the array. I'm using the Solarever 455 W panels with 49.35 V Open Circuit and 10.96 Maximum Power Current per panel. Note, each panel...
  • Post in thread: Solar String Configuration w Safety Margin to Remain Below Voc

Hi Mike, The good news is panels are on the roof and inverter is 20 feet away, so losses are minimum and wire costs are small. But, I'd like to combine both strings on the same 10 gauge line as I already have the roof pentation and lightning shunt setup. So, the easiest solution would be to...
  • Post in thread: Solar String Configuration w Safety Margin to Remain Below Voc

Minimum voltage is 70 Volts. I have 2 inverters and 20 total panels. Each inverter has 2 MPPTs. I'm trying to avoid using both inputs to minimize the wire run from the array to the inverters. But, worse case, I could run 4 strings of 5 panels across 4 MPPT inputs. I'd just need to run some...
  • Post in thread: Charge Battery by Utility When SOC Drops Below a Certain % (EG4-6500)

I asked Signature Solar tech staff and they told me there's no setting to accomplish this. I sent EG4 a note asking for a feature request to see if they could add this. I have no idea if that'll go anywhere, but figured it was worth a shot. So, currently, this is not possible. Here's hoping it...
  • Post in thread: Solar String Configuration w Safety Margin to Remain Below Voc

The EG4-6500 inverter has an amperage limit of 18 AMPs. Right now, the display on the inverter says with 9 panels connected, I'm pulling in 10.2 Amps and with 5 panels connected I'm pulling in 9.9 Amps.
  • Post in thread: 240V Batteryless, Utility Backedup Inverter

Yeah, I'm hoping to use the grid as the battery. So when a cloud goes over, it uses AC from the grid. It looks like 2 of the Sol-Arc in parallel could do this. It says battery or batteryless function in 240V Sol-Arc Inverter. i think this may be the one (if i get two) Thanks!
  • Post in thread: EG4 18K PV1 Input Volts

Hi All, PV1 has the ability to input 2 strings of panels. The manual says each string should be facing the same direction and be the same type of panel. That's easy enough. The manual says for PV1 uses can input 2 strings. However, it says the maximum voltage for PV1 input is 550V. Does...
  • Post in thread: 240V Batteryless, Utility Backedup Inverter

Hi, I've seen that some inverters can run Battery free off Utility/Grid AC. But I can't seem to find one that will do this with 240V input/output. Some of the units that can function in series/paralell say that the Grid-Backup only works for 120V. Is there an inverter, or 2 in parallel, I...
