Great points!
It is not the role of UL and UL 1741 xx certification that these inverters interoperate! That is the role of SunSpec and SunSpec certification, hopefully! I know that FOX ESS will not enable 1741 SA AC coupling although they have it working, too many interconnect problems with...
Let's focus on the objective of this thread.
IQ8's can only be AC coupled with hard PV on/off by non-Enphase ESS systems and Enphase ESS systems do not tolerate other inverters on the Enphase micro-grid.
Enphase has new 5P batteries that are priced around 3k, they are great for TOU because...
zanydroid: Wireless versus PLC: probably fear of violating Enphase patents. PLC patents have long expired and Enphase does not have patents that would prevent publicly available PLC communications with micro-inverters in general. If you read the patents they are very specific.
PLC can be made...
"S" means single-phase with a single inverter or split-phase with dual inverters, one for each phase. The suffix like -USG1 indicates the market as in Split-phase US Generation 1. HAS-6.0LV-EUG1 stands for single phase Europe, generation 1. The US inverters have twice the power as the...
I just read it and I'm wrong on LVRT. LVRT and HVRT require the inverter to stay online. VV causes it to heat up, like engaging the brakes.
Could also activate diversion load to switch production over to consumption.
Can someone at SignatureSolar tell us what the lugs are rated for? Are they rated for 200A?
No way that 400A pass-through is possible without 400A lugs and a 400A external transfer relay or external contactor!
Parallel relays will arc and get stuck, because all it takes is one relay to be faster...
The origins were rooted in a concerted effort by several folks working on Hoymiles Reverse Engineering for Hoymiles DTU to inverter communications and cracking the encryption. Many solar end users in US and outside want to fully own their own solar data and do not want to rely on cloud services...
Hoymiles HMS-2000 (4 x 500W) AC Coupling:
Grid- Profile: UL1741 SB CA Rule 21 profile
On-Grid:
After 5 minutes, HMS-2000 locks onto grid and starts producing, full 2000W after 6 minutes total.
Grid-Fault:
HMS-2000 switches off, stays off for about 7 minutes, then locks onto micro-grid and...
hedges: Great detail! Clearly shows what was required to get approved.
UL 1741 SB certification includes UL 1741 SA. I think the SB column is there to highlight support for the SB additions or supplements.
The column header says SB Supplements, not SB compliance, wasn't clear when I first saw...
I have limited time and a main job to earn money, so testing will be in small incremental steps as I have spare time.
Grid Profile: IEEE 1547 2018 for both IQ8's and XW-Pro
The XW-Pro AC coupling guide you've cited is out-of-date and the p(f) configurability is no longer available in the...
Enphase Gen 3:
Enphase Gen3 not backward compatible with Gen2.
You cannot upgrade your existing system controller/batteries with the new ones and you cannot reuse existing batteries with a Gen3 system controller!
So let's get the Schneider XW AC coupling to work.
AC Calibration:
AC inverter...
Actually, they are not SunSpec compliant, they are UL1741 SB compliant, with IEEE 2030.5 as the selected SB supplement.
The SunSpec alliance promotes open standards and certifies products that comply with open standards. None of Enphase products are SunSpec certified!
As you've said:
Enphase...
UL 1741 SB is ok where UL 1741 SA is required, but if UL 1741 SB is required you need a "Y" in the SB Supplement column.
SB covers direct power controls via one of 3 options, see post #56
IEEE 1815 DNP3
IEEE 2030.5
SunSpec Modbus
Just received a Hoymiles HMS-2000 microinverter with UL 1741 SB...
As far as I know, the US manual has not yet been posted, it's available from Todd here: HYS-LV-USG1.
HMS and HM and MI inverters are electronically identical but differ in the electrical interconnect or the RF band. They all support active power controls. Here is an OpenDTU link how to perform...
It's good that Enphase gets more competition, not because they build good micro-inverters, but because the keep all the "goodies" like UL1741SB with IEEE 2030.5 direct power control and API access under tight wraps via their cloud connectivity so no one will be able to offer alternatives to...
An auxiliary relay-controlled AC circuit for external loads would be great! Many hybrid inverters do not have enough flexible i/o control ports. You have to add too much external logic controls and a few external logic controllers to do load shedding, load diversion and to drive an external MID...
It is just an example how easy it is to draw up a diagram in Figma. I have no intention nor any interest to promote Enphase products that won't be available anytime soon. I gave the Enphase pdf diagram to my Figma expert as a test case and he had it drawn up in less than an hour. Will show more...
Enphase is the only backup system provider I know of requiring an additional cell modem for data transfer. All other backup systems I'm familiar with make cell modems optional in case the internet connection is not reliable. And when Enphase systems run on a cell modem, you'll get only 4 updates...
znydroid: you can get 48V DC generators for charging batteries directly, has best overall efficiency for battery charging. EG4 has a new 48V 100A charger you could connect to a 240V generator, but it does not have any CAN Bus or ModBus controls. And at night, as you've suggested, you'll better...
Thanks fromport for the pics and the relay info.
A 200A MID relay is much larger and the fine print reveals the details. Many physically smaller relays can carry/sustain a higher amp rating, like 90A, but have significantly lower make and/or break currents like 30A, see the manufacturer link...
Lets' face it: EG4 ll(V2) batteries do not interface properly with Schneider XW inverters via RS 485 or ModBus! I know customers who have returned the batteries and went with traditional sealed AGM batteries. By the way, in most larger cities you can pick those up for $80-$100 per kWh...
You're correct, the XW is raising frequency and voltage to stop micros from producing, anything is allowed in off-grid mode, no regulations to be complied with. This is not a violation of the on-grid behavior according to the selected grid profile. The 62 Hz applies only to on-grid.
The...
Here is the response from product support @ Schneider Electric:
IQ7 and IQ8 AC Coupling:
Enphase has a fix for IQ7 inverters, but is still working on a fix for IQ8 inverters
Smart AC Coupling:
Smart AC coupling for stacked XW Pro inverters is under consideration, but not yet implemented.
Great feedback on VV and reactive current!
LVRT or low-voltage ride through is the real challenge! Micro-inverters need to support the grid to prevent it from collapsing.
You need extra power for this, like cranking up the inverter generator for extra output.
Most of the IQ3 or IQ4 combiner...
What you want or need is not more power, you need access to more energy via extensible battery backup!
The coupling of power (inverter) and energy(battery) is a major design shortcoming or flaw or intentionally designed revenue-generating feature in the Enphase backup solution. This is where...
EG4 has only 1 grid-tied UL1741SA hybrid inverter. This inverter cannot AC couple in a micro grid! UL1741 SA means that the inverter can be grid-tied and that it is able to "follow" what the utility generator requires, but the inverse/mirror or ying for yang is not possible. In the micro-grid...
PLC: Good points! But how many of those running into PLC communication problems have PLC line filters? I remember Enphase installations in homes with X10 and Insteon having lots of problems and Enphase did ignore it for some time. PLC line filters are getting more popular because IQ7's and IQ8's...
