So everyone will just buy them from Oregon, Nevada and Arizona and how will this change any emissions in California?

Soon making one’s own electricity will be as restricted as capturing one’s own rainwater!

You'll need to check out the battery specs. Trojan L16's state that their self-discharge rate is "5 – 15% per month depending on storage temperature conditions." So leaving them completely disconnected would last only so long. But leaving them connected would risk overcharging and possibly going...

    Yes
  • Post in thread: System can't keep up after upgrades and reconfiguration

Not sure what the inverter does by itself. But there is *always* a load. Fridge control board, CO2 monitor. currently in S Central Colorado I have 4 100w 12v panels, 30amp Victron controller (mppt), 1500watt inverter Generator not connected to solar battery bank, no way to charge except solar...
  • Post in thread: System can't keep up after upgrades and reconfiguration

it's not, really. We retired early in large part due to frugalness. Hard to turn it off once you get here, though...
  • Post in thread: Class C Integration Possibilities?

A shelf between the batteries and the rest is certainly doable. Will need to think about this.

Final note on this thread - if I had seen the thread on the Docan LiFePo4 cells out of Houston, I might have just switched over. But I'm really not ready for that yet. Still very surprised at how much cheaper the DIY build is compared to Battleborns. That's one helluva markup!
  • Post in thread: consequences of a throwaway society?

Wife's 2nd fave car. We bought a demo'd Hyundai Sonata. It was my wife's luxury upgrade. It was *nice*! Drove it a long time. Had to trade it in after we retired and tried to car camp in it. I packed all our stuff in it, but the weight compressed the springs and it was undriveable. Forced to...

yeah, plus lack of water didn't help. I agree with @Wellbuilt - sun angle dropping is revealing a power shortage. So to get things up to 46-50amps, including winter in southern Arizona, it seems like I will need maybe a total of 800w of panel? Does that sound right?

Starting that project in a few hours, plus heatshrink
  • Post in thread: Fused Disconnects?

I think I'm going to simplify and stick to big fuses and standard rotary disconnect switches.
  • Post in thread: Crypto Currency Mining a Giant Pyramid Scheme?

Convenience stores and gas stations will have to transition. For awhile they will need to service both as ICE cars dwindle and electric cars grow. During this time some new stations will open that service electric vehicles only. They will need waiting areas, and the charging stations will...

Are you sure it wasn't *this* incident? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980_Damascus_Titan_missile_explosion
  • Post in thread: Class C Integration

So your inverter is now in-between the shore power cable and the power center/converter/charger? And do you use the generator by plugging the shore power cable into it?
  • Post in thread: Socket head dropped and sparked, is this a short?

I did something similar when tightening the negative cable to my inverter - managed to connect the butt end of my socket wrench to the positive! Big spark, hit my head on the top of the battery compartment, may have squealed like a 12-year old girl.

OK I AM DONE! Finally ordered all these pieces/parts. Had to just stop trying to nail down certain details, give up on some perfectionism, and click on the 'complete your order' button. Parts will be arriving next Thursday in an RV park in New Mexico. I'll be there about two days before...

Regarding loads, what about the water system? If you are off-grid electrically, do you have a city source for water? Is it an aljibe in the ground w/ a pump to send up to a tinaco on the roof? Or is it a pump w/ bladder to pressurize the water lines? Pumps plus filtration/UV system all draw...
  • Post in thread: Is there a storm brewing for YouTube reviewers?

  • Post in thread: Gas-Powered Lawn Equipment Will Soon Be Banned In Cali, a broad category that includes generators.

This 'fluke event' cost a lot more than twice your rate for electricity. Even if the power had stayed on, the rates went through the roof. That is the fault of Texas' ridiculous system where rates just go where they want and the state won't cap them. Even in a fluke winter emergency. So pretty...

That was just a sample photo from the internet. Here is my actual panel - can't find an open connection for extra wire on the DC side...
  • Post in thread: System can't keep up after upgrades and reconfiguration

Just to clarify... My inverter was off about 20 hours, starting last evening, including all day today. So no power draw at all today during solar charging.
  • Post in thread: System can't keep up after upgrades and reconfiguration

ok, never mind on this - I misunderstood what he was talking about. In any case, not an option that would work on our rig.
  • Post in thread: Class C Integration Possibilities?

    Self-installed - vertamax 1500w pure sine wave - 3 standard 3-prong plugs.
  • Post in thread: Fusing and busbars

hopefully having the fans up top will minimize this risk
  • Post in thread: Class C Integration Possibilities?

It's all stand-alone! I mean, yes, batteries, monitor w/ shunt, charger/controller and inverter are all standalone in separate compartment.

managed to find yet another creative way to release some magic smoke this morning. Evidently connecting one end of a grounding cable to the inverter case and the other to a battery positive terminal is not good. No big sparks, just a small amount of smoke. Still not sure why this would happen ?‍♂️
  • Post in thread: System can't keep up after upgrades and reconfiguration

My friend recommended one of these - can plug into the rig using any AC outlet and then power with generator, or can plug it into an RV park power pedestal. Comes with all the options needed to properly charge deep cycle. Would mount it in the battery compartment and leave it connected to the...
