As you know, there’s been a great deal of discussion about the actual useful capacity of these used BYD 24v batteries. Perhaps this post will be informative. Please forgive the lousy formatting - I took my notes in a word processor, not a spreadsheet.
Here are the basic breakdowns of the...
To me, this looks like an ideal situation for AC coupling. According to my understanding, you can add up to 6500 watts of AC coupled panels to the XW6048. Using micro inverters, (I recommend Enphase) you'll be able to get your additional AC power (during solar hours) and your DC coupled arrays...
Did my first charge/discharge cycle with 3 paralleled pre-assembled TechDirect/BYD units: They were fully charged to the internal BMS cutoff of 28v. Using a 500w heater @ approx 18amp discharge the batteries lasted for 17 hours 12 minutes - using a cut-off voltage of 24.0v.

So here is my take on all this: Everyone is right (because it all depends on your point of view).
a. They were misrepresented (either purposefully, or initially out of ignorance - not good either way)
b. They can be a good bargain. (when operated at the actual usable capacity - with the...
Heads Up: Two entirely different BMS manufacturers - confirmed by Signature Solar telephone support today. And the software/interface for the Lifepower4 version is incompatible with the earlier Eg4-Gyll batteries.
Unfortunate, since I have two of the old models and had planned to daisy chain...
One of the reasons we are able to dink around with these very affordable solar items is the R&D money that government has chipped in. Some of those investments didn't work out. Many do. But the vast majority of the renewable energy progress made thus far is due to public/private/scholastic...
Looks like a well thought out solution. Just a note: I have been using the Schneider Conext SW4024/MPPT 60-150 CC's in a DC coupled off-grid installation for almost 4 years. About 6 months ago I added AC coupled Enphase M215s. All work together seamlessly. One advantage of having the DC...
Hang in there. Looks like you did a good job with the installation (at first unknowing glance) and kudos for your efforts. I too am completely unqualified to comment on all things related to Tesla batteries, but I applaud your willingness to reach out for help. It's the first step in getting it...
It is possible to be off-grid and use micro-inverters. I have 3kw of DC coupled panels - and 1.5kw of AC couple panels, using micro-inverters. And I am in the process of adding 1.5kw more. The micros are Enphase m215s, legacy micros available new at rock bottom prices on the internet. There are...
Very true, Svetz. And the Conext system does the shift handsomely. However, I will still install a diversion load and a smart relay to kick that load in and out at prescribed voltages. That way the excess power is consumed before the frequency shift occurs - and it also acts as a failsafe if the...
I have nothing but good things to say about the Schneider Conext SW4024. I've had one running my whole house for almost 4 years now. On or Off-grid hybrid inverter - good surge - DC and AC coupling - excellent integration with the Conext Charge controllers - software monitoring thru Combox &...
By the way, I use very conservative specs: 27.1 charge, 26.7 float, 26.4 recharge. My charge rates vary from .1C to .25C on average. The batteries have worked so well in my AC/DC coupled system that I am adding a mini-split heat pump this week.
Like many others, I had an Trace SW4024 - ran my off grid house for many, many years. Still running my 240v well (with transformer). Keep the baby, throw out the bath water.
It is possible, however, to be educated, fit and industrious, and still care about social issues. What we do, how we live, and how we treat others matters.
Here's an outfit that has solar generators with lifepo4 batteries (50ah & 100ah) and up to 20a/520watts of solar MPPT.
Run by a pretty good fellow - I was interested in his lifepo4 units - didn't buy from him - but he was very helpful.

Here's what it looks like if you go with all Schneider/Conext (CC's, switchgear, SW4024 inverter & combox - SCP is upstairs). I'm totally off-grid and it works flawlessly (with generator, DC and AC coupling, plus pretty graphs, too). Best.

Absolutely. Good point.
I speak from personal experience - with both EG4 batteries and GYLL Batteries - and Schneider inverters, SCCs, and accessory equipment - and with Signature Solar.
1. Schneider equipment is very particular - with dozens of menus and sub-menus - all of which can affect...
Just a note to let you all know that after a great deal of correspondence with TechDirect & BigBattery (including all of my charge/discharge and capacity measurements) they were good enough to provide me with another battery unit to make up for the deficit in my usable capacity vs. TechDirect's...
