  • Post in thread: want to wire a few outlets in the walls before sheetrock. not sure if i need a box. want to make it easy ?

Put the front of the box protruding, put the wires coiled up inside it, make sure that it is a solid fix. Mark the location on the floor and note the height just before you install the drywall. Then when you install the drywall give it a tap with a flat peace of wood to leave a mark of the...
  • Post in thread: Heat without electricity recommendations.

Have you thought of using an electric blanket? I have one draped over back and the seat of my chair, it uses about 120W on high, 40W on low and even the low setting is enough to lower the thermostat by 5 degrees Celsius to what I would otherwise need.
  • Post in thread: China customs bans shipping of lithium batteries?

That is not quite true, despite having the most expensive health care system, the US doesn't even rank in the top 10.

  • Post in thread: Solar power is not just for rich people.

I agree with everything else you have written, but I look at it a little different. I am perfectly fine with people willing to pay for me for simple fixes, they obviously have other skills (I may not posses) that earn them enough to afford to pay me to do the job. For me it is pointless to...
  • Post in thread: Ground mount - 410' run. Do I need a junction box ?

Slide each piece of conduit over the wires, before burying them.
  • Post in thread: Coming Energy Prices …..

Gorbachev, who was the Soviet leader at the time, said otherwise. https://www.brookings.edu/blog/up-front/2014/11/06/did-nato-promise-not-to-enlarge-gorbachev-says-no/ On the other hand there were signed agreements that Russia did break, (which is an incentive for Russia's neighbours to join a...
  • Post in thread: Coming Energy Prices …..

Russia invading Ukraine did not and does not make sense, they are loosing "most favoured nation" status on top of the sanctions already in place. Russia would have been much better off if they had dealt with corruption, improved infrastructure and joined the EU. Corruption does mean that their...

  • Post in thread: Coming Energy Prices …..

You accuse Der Spiegel of being CIA controlled and at the same time claim that Der Spiegel is supporting the Putin's (false) narrative? The reason you sign treaties (and publish) is so that every one can see what was agreed on, Russia invaded anyway...

  • Post in thread: Does Solar Pay for Itself? Is it worth it?

My ROI is around 8 - 10 years, but I see it mostly as an expensive hobby with modest returns.
  • Post in thread: Any flat earthers out there?

Yes, there are times, especially early on in an unfamiliar subject when I do. Up to a point, when they go on and on with things that have been debunked more than once or worse their conspiracy theories, I ignore those arguments. Quite the opposite. I do find flat earthers quite entertaining.

    Sure professor Bob.
  • Post in thread: Do We Need a Control Group?

@42OhmsPA You can laugh all you want, but that post is a gift that keeps on giving.
  • Post in thread: Any flat earthers out there?

I have had discussions with a couple of flat earthers, they believe that the stars and other objects are attached to the firmament (dome) So I tried logic, asking them things like, "why is the air thinner at higher elevations?". Turns out they do believe in gravity, so the follow up was what...
  • Post in thread: Lots of questions

Plan to expand, so leave space for that. Solar panels are cheaper than batteries and batteries are not the only place to store energy, so get creative..
  • Post in thread: So this is how low humans have sunk !!!

Basics for me start with the "golden rule" (the principle of treating others as one wants to be treated)

  • Post in thread: Off the grid lights in cabin

Cheapest is to charge a small 12V battery from the generator when it is running, and run your tv and lights directly from the 12V.
  • Post in thread: What Budget 200Ah LiFewPO4 to buy for freezing weather August 2022?

Any one here who wants to bet that Will will not disassemble the battery? Please do, I want to see if it is any good.
  • Post in thread: Dr Strangetroll : or how I learned to stop arguing and be amused by the intransigence

Absolutely, I am not like you, providing tacit support to terrorist who are advocating for the hanging of scientists.

  • Post in thread: Best way to use excess solar to offset gas heat

I use my solar in a shed, converted into an office, and use a simple oil filled heater in winter. In summer I produce way more than what I can use, but I didn't want to go through the extra expense of connecting to the grid, so I installed a couple of outlets in the house and pug in appliances...

  • Post in thread: Coming Energy Prices …..

Getting back to high energy prices, this will be resolved, (rooftop) solar, wind, EV, are going to be hugely disruptive in the next 10 years. I am confident that we can overcome those issues at least on the technical side. I don't know if we will live through the politics. (Russia invading...
  • Post in thread: Can Solar & Wind Fix Everything (e.g., Climate Change) with a battery break-through?

Why do you think it is a "scam"? Why do you think it is a "hoax"? CO2 is pollution, it is literally dumping one of the waste products from burning fossil fuels into the atmosphere. The Daily Sceptic is a far-right biased quackery level pseudoscience website that frequently publishes false and...
  • Post in thread: Dr Strangetroll : or how I learned to stop arguing and be amused by the intransigence

Don't know about you, I never tried to persuade any idiots who believe they know better than medical experts in the field of viral illnesses. I truly dislike deliberate misinformation, even more so when it scares people taking simple actions, like taking a vaccine during a pandemic that has...
