A cheap option to consider if you want better balancing power is the 4S 5A capacitor type - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001221243997.html Some have good success with these as an add-on and as you have an open pack and already have a BMS with bluetooth cell voltage monitoring, just disable...
  • Post in thread: Active balancer advice required

One option to consider is to add to your existing system a JK 2A active balancer that is smart and has bluetooth and is configurable to the pack that is playing up. JK-B2A16S -But doesn't have the feature to turn off/on at around 3.4V per cell (unlike its bigger brother bms/active balancer 2A...

All these JKBMS here can work with 8S LiFePo4 https://aliexpress.com/item/1005003104573871.html
  • Post in thread: Active balancer, make it smart!?

    So there are 3 ways of doing that 1. Cell voltage >3.4V alone 2. Putting a limit on delta V - I use 20mV alone 16S 300Ahr LiFePO4 ( with no cell voltage control) 3. Using cell voltage >3.4V and delta V - 5-10mV
  • Post in thread: Question RE: Severity of Failure to Top-Balance

Probably need to dismantle the cases and measure/monitor cell voltage when packs are 14.2-14.4V if want to know what is going on. ie. Non smart BMS on a closed system leads to battery capacity loss with low quality cells because you are flying by the seat of your pants because you can't measure...
  • Post in thread: JK BMS Current Consumption (JK-B2A8S20P-H)

How does the hardwired button that you can get with this model work? Can you use it to "disconnect" the BMS insitu so no power draw for storage. Then use the button to turn the BMS on? But I think all the BMS settings go back to default? Anyone able to clarify please.

  • Post in thread: "Minerals" 8S 200A smart BMS, with 2A active balancing, via Andy/OffgridGarage

All the JKBMS listed here now are suitable for 8S 24V LiFPO4. Obviously there has been a new model that requires >20V to power up. https://aliexpress.com/item/1005003104573871.html I wonder if they can all be used with 12 to 24V DC DC converters on 4S 12V LiFPO4 packs? The XWSR store on...

Float your pack at 14.0 -14.2 V and allow your passive balancer to fine tune. Hopefully you can get deltaV towards 10mV with no runaway cells.
  • Post in thread: 8-10amp 12v DC-to-DC Lithium Charger

This is a nice simple charger. The "adjustable" seems to refer to being able to change the current limit 2, 4, 8A. The led changes from red to green when goes from current limiting to voltage limiting mode. Output voltage states 14.5V but I can't see anywhere in specs, where voltage then drops...
  • Post in thread: Heltec (JK) 200A Smart BMS with 2A Active Balance

Thanks for everyones input about working out if the standalone active balancers can stop balancing below a certain cell voltage. I too have considered that "Power Off Vol" could be used to do this in the absence of a "Start Balance Vol" setting. But this would depend on what input range is...
  • Post in thread: Batrium with second set of leads for active balancer

Have a commercial 15KwHr 16S LiFePO4 storage where the supplied control system was mosfet BMS and a separate active balancer that failed and put cells 1-4 200mV lower than the rest of the pack. Removed the failed active balancer unit and added in JK 2A standalone active balancer by using the...

  • Post in thread: Runner cell "trigger" voltage

Thanks for updating. The delta V 0.158v is still indicating moderate state of being unbalanced. Aim for < 10mV at 27.7V Depending on how many hrs per day you can " float" at 27.7. On the average off-grid setup this may yet take weeks to months, but you have a useable system. Make sure delta V on...
  • Post in thread: Any experience with this 5-8A active battery balancer

This seems to have fallen in price with this supplier. Can't actually work out who is the supplier as there is no store name(AU$81.44 shipped to AUS for 2 x8S units)- go to store - aliexpress app gives "Whoa! The store is over capacity please try again later."...
  • Post in thread: Hankzor JK BMS with screen and power button

A manual off/on button would make this 8S BMS/active balancer ideal for a 4S system with a 12V stepup converter where you could put the battery in storage and turn off the BMS to reduce drain. There has been rumors that there will be a 4S JK BMS soon?
  • Post in thread: Renogy DC to DC not charging at 14.6 volt

There does seem to an overzealous attempt by the DC-DC charger manufacturers to push LiFePO4 4S systems to 14.4 - 14.6V and then float. Certainly in the off grid world most would not be pushing their cells above an equivalent of 14.0V. Some of the manufacturers of LIFePO4 4S packs also...
  • Post in thread: Active balancer, make it smart!?

Not all active balancers work this way. Explaining how different active balancers can be setup 1. Heltec Capacitor type - some use the on/off tabs to detect cell voltage so they only operate in the knee. There is no ability to adjust delta V cut off. 2. The Standalone JK active balancer does not...

So it should only be necessary to connect to battery on input side and and most +ve balance wire to Out+ and -ve balance wire can stay on balancer

  • Post in thread: Active balancer ok to use with BMS?

29mV delta V at pack voltage 14.2V would be regarded as approaching balanced. 29mV delta V at pack voltage 13.2V does not allow any meaningful assessment of balanced state. If your chasing 29mV delta V with a Heltec Capacitor Balancer it will only move about 300mA with such a small delta V and...
  • Post in thread: Heltec (JK) 200A Smart BMS with 2A Active Balance

Looking at adding the JK-B2A16S standalone active balancer to my LiFePO4 16S 15KWhr storage. I cant get onto jkbms.com via their website or email and I raised this...

  • Post in thread: EVE LF280K 16S JK B2A24S15P-CAN

Still not fully charged. If you want to really want know how balanced cells are need to push total voltage to 55-56V. Most full time active balancers are set not to activate when cell voltages are less than 3.4V
  • Post in thread: Micro-Cycling Battery

Didn't catch what BMS you are using and if there is a balancer that comes on at ? 14.0V and if you can check cell voltages. Might be wise to check how the AGM charger boosts to full voltage ?14.4V It may be that if there is minimal time above 14.0V balancing time will be inadequate.
  • Post in thread: 2023: BMS Systems Changing & Improving

And finally a new version of the JKBMS with features of the "industrial" grade BMSs - includes active balancing and firmware upgradeable and inverter comms. Be interesting to see if any bugs in the first release version. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006014535487.htm (pre-order)
  • Post in thread: JK-B2A24S Active Balancer firmware upgrade?

Maybe more recent hardware versions of the JK active balancer have a working start balance voltage? Your hardware is over a year old. Mine was purchased 9 months ago. Or maybe the IOS app was developed at a latter date? I will check and see if there is a newer android app version than the one...
