Howdy, I put 16 panels on my roof, using my tractor and ladder to make a ramp. I strung a heavy rope over the top of the roof and used my lawn tractor to pull them up the ramp and onto the roof. No fuss no muss.... A one person operation, 72 years old.... Enjoy.....
  • Post in thread: Luyuan battery case

Well, I'm the happy guy !! I Chatted with Amy, after her return from vacation. After a few days, I ordered a pair of 8 x 280ah boxes with the newer JK BMS mounting. Payment received 2/27, shipped on 3/7 and I just received notice that they have arrived at FEDEX US, with delivery scheduled on...
  • Post in thread: NEWS: New Midnite Solar DIY Series - SCC's & Inverters (great $ too)

I'm also in western Washington and I've run a pair of Midnite Classic 150's for over 5 years. And will confirm they are rock solid. And there are another 4 Classic 150's installed in our off grid neighborhood. All those have been running for more than 5 years. There are also 4 original Trace...
  • Post in thread: Best mppt charge controller for LiFePO4?

I've only built up Victron systems using 2 Victron MPPT controllers. The Victron site states 'two or more controllers', so I'd assume.... An important thing to remember - Is that with the Victron Smart Sense, the charge controlling voltage, for both controllers, is sensed at the battery...
  • Post in thread: Weekend Warrior Build

My immediate thoughts are the mixing of different solar panels. A quick search for 'mixing solar panels Vmpp Impp' is suggested. The key for MPPT to work efficiently is to match those values. One string out of line, will limit peak performance of all strings. I don't want to sound like a...
  • Post in thread: Is it possible to use a 120v relay as an automatic transfer switch?

Over the years, I've used this relay a number of times, no problems. $30.00 www.amazon.com/TWTADE-JQX-62F-2Z-Voltage-Electronmagnetic-Relay/dp/B07FCJFGL9
  • Post in thread: Need for installation validation: LiFePO4 + 3 charge sources in my RV

Well, I'm kinda old school. I've been maintaining off grid systems on my Washington hilltop property for 20 years. I'm often off site for long periods of time, so I want reliable, rock solid equipment, that I can monitor and control remotely. I tend to stick with higher end equipment to...
  • Post in thread: MidNite Solar DIY Series

I've been using Robin and Bob's equipment since their Trace days and actually a SW4024 is still my main inverter powered by a pair of Midnite Classic 150's Quoted from the Midnite site.... "The DIY Series is designed to be affordable, dependable, and supported by the industry’s best customer...
  • Post in thread: Multiple MPPT's and Connection to Battery Bank

Howdy, looks like a nice project. The Victron line of MPPT charge controllers has a $39 dollar device, called the Victron Smart Battery Sense. You connect it to battery and via Bluetooth it will network both of your charge controllers. So then both of your charge controllers will be in sync...
  • Post in thread: Steve_S-Tech: My Final Config for Midnite Classic SCC & JKBMS' w/ Large Bank (works amazingly well) Includes Charge Profile & BMS Config

Steve, As I've mentioned before, I've had this off grid property for 20 years and I have finally switched over to Lithium based batteries, this year. Since your system is almost exactly the same as mine (Midnight, JKBMS, Trace) I've been watching your progress with interest. After the last...
  • Post in thread: Best mppt charge controller for LiFePO4?

I totally agree with Steve_S and HRTKD's observations. I was not able to see the makeup of your system, (panels, batteries and daily usage) but my main feeling summed up, is to protect my $X,XXX worth of batteries and maybe $X,XXX for items connected to those batteries, an extra hundred or two...
  • Post in thread: Anderson Power Pole-amps

I've used them for years and they are great quick connect/disconnect plugs. Beware of the cheap overseas imitations, usually found on Amazon and Ebay..... get true Anderson Powerpole products. Powerwerx is a good supplier. Enjoy...
  • Post in thread: Best gas generator for a backup battery charging?

I agree with the Honda generator recommendations. Particularly the Honda Inverter generators, ie EU3000is. With an inverter type of generator, as your load decreases, the generator rpm, fuel consumption, and noise decreases. There is no comparison between a normal generator, running 3600 or...
  • Post in thread: Advice for mppt controller.

I totally agree with Mike and A.J.. Victron is a class act. Well built and expandable. Remember, at some point those batteries with be most expensive (and important) part of your system. Spending a few extra bucks to maintain and protect those batteries is well worth it. The Victron...
  • Post in thread: Off Grid Cabin Alarm

Hi Bruce, looks like a nice project. I've been monitoring my remote off grid site for 20 years. About 10 years ago I started using the cell network to keep me connected. The Simply Safe systems look good, but if it is the one I just googled, there is a monthly $15 bill that goes with it...
  • Post in thread: Off Grid Security Camera System

Howdy, I agree with AJ... 12vdc to 120vac is going to have some losses. I think the next step is to setup your NVR and 4 cameras at home, with a WattsUp power meter, for 24 hours. Set the cameras outside, so when they go into night mode and they turn on the Ir sensors, you'll actually track...
  • Post in thread: Luyuan battery case

I have a pair of PB2A16S20P's with the large screens, in use now. (16Channel200MaxAmp2AmpBalance) They've been running great for 4 months or so.
  • Post in thread: Stolen solar panels?

Howdy, Twenty years ago I installed 10 BP75 panels at my remote site in Western Wa. I drilled holes thru each panel and ran a single wire thru all the panels. I connected the wire to a cheap ebay Auto alarm with a large alarm speaker. In ten years the alarm went off twice. And the panels are...
  • Post in thread: Our NEW GO-TO LiFePO4 vendor...09.20.21

Howdy, I just took delivery of another 8 EVE282's from Docan USA. Arrived on time and in excellent condition. They are still top balancing and I'll be putting them on line next week. Contact Wendy or Amy, they are ROCK STARS....
  • Post in thread: Best place to buy Victron

I've always had good dealings with https://invertersrus.com/ They are in Reno Nv.... Good prices, fast shipper, never had to use customer service.
  • Post in thread: JiKong (JK) (Neey/Hankzor/HelTec/etc) Smart BMS with Active Balancer BT/Can/RS485 (Input Discussion pre-purchase)

Howdy, Thanks to this group, I was able to snag one of these excellent BMS's, a few weeks ago. After 3 weeks of operation, connected to an 8S 272Ah battery bank, I have found no surprises. All of the important settings are available and they work as expected. The balance function works as...
  • Post in thread: Updated JK-PB2A16S-20PH from v15.06 to v15.10 and lost heat function.

Howdy, Just an idle thought.... Looks like you don't have the battery sense/thermometer cables plugged in. The new firmware may look for the temperature inputs, before enabling the heating functions....
  • Post in thread: Recommendations For Riden RD6018w Output Cables

I've used BNTECHGO product numerous times, with success, for short runs under 20 amps. Easy to work with and a good deal for 10 bux.

  • Post in thread: Victron Smartsolar Charger Remote On/Off

All the code to build and decode messages are in this well written library. Arduino VE.Direct library based on Victron's reference implementation Check out the 'example' code.
  • Post in thread: What changes do I make in my two midnite classic charge controllers? I made the switch from AGMs to eg4 lifepo.

Howdy, Our resident Midnite Classic expert is Steve_S Scan for his articles, especially the 'My final config for Midnite Classic' Excellent, fully explained, step by step instructions..... I've owned Midnite Classics forever and still learned a few new tips from him... Enjoy..
  • Post in thread: Is having two Victron MPPTs connected better than having one bigger MPPT?

The Victron equipment is designed to play well with themselves. I have not tried pairing with the Smart Shunt, but a quick scan of the documents indicated that it should work. Actually I did see your other post and had a few thoughts..... I've used Daly BMS's on small systems, but over the...
  • Post in thread: Updated Battery setup.

Howdy, Looks like a nice clean setup. I'm not an expert, but I've built up a number of 24v (8s) systems, using the same Battery Hookup packs, and I'm very happy with them. I watched most of each of your two videos, but the one phrase that I did not hear was 'top balance'. All of my packs...
