I'm in AZ as well (Cochise County.) We live 100% off-grid. I've bought batteries and I've built my current one. Your rig is pretty new, so the refrigerator is probably more efficient than mine. Mine in the 5th wheel can soak up over 400W while running on a triple digit day and it runs a lot...

I'm still in research mode - haven't received my batteries yet on the Slow Boat from China. Is the Orion Jr. just controlling StdBy/Online mode? If not, what functions are you able to perform? I want to try to build in a soft-start relay to the BMS. I bought a few 5 Ohm resistors to setup a...
  • Post in thread: Wire cutters

Thank you! I came across these in my Amazon searching, but wasn't sure of the quality. The reviews on Amazon for most items seem misleading or not really useful. I was hoping to save a few $$ as I probably won't be cutting too many 4/0 cables (more likely 10 - 1/0.) I'll do some comparisons...
  • Post in thread: Wire cutters

The pricing is all over the place on these type of cutters.
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

OK gang! I finally have a working prototype for the software component. I finally figured out how to convert ModBus values to ASCII so I can view real values. I've setup a server to provide API access to (today) specific aspects of my Scheider setup over ModBusTCP. The fields I currently...
  • Post in thread: Lishen 272AH thread?

I was looking over Will's site again, and if this is to be the preferred bus configuration, I think Will should update his diagram in the "How To Configure Cells In A Large Battery Bank". His site says to connect in Parallel first, then add the Serial connections
  • Post in thread: Lishen 272AH thread?

For the bus bars, your suggestion of 4 hole and 8 hole bus bars - isn't that what the picture shows or am I missing the picture? Maybe a picture really does speak 1000 words. I used Libre Office Calc (M$ Excel alternative) to create that graphic. The 4/0 cable suggestion makes sense. I was...
  • Post in thread: Lishen 272AH thread?

Do you think I could use something to polish the silver to retard tarnishing? Great advice. I'll add that to the list of changes to the diagram. Wow! A lot to digest there. I was looking at some online data regarding how/what to use for bus bars. I couldn't find any quantitative data on...
  • Post in thread: Lishen 272AH thread?

Makes sense to KISS to keep resistance in check. So it sounds like I should add another hole to the +/- bus bars and use 4/0 all the way to the 250A breaker for "+" (in Conext PDP) and the shunt for "-".
  • Post in thread: Orion Jr.2 BMS thread

So this thread hasn't been updated in a while it seems. I've done a lot of testing with other BMS' and I'm pretty much coming around to the realization that the Orion might be the way to go. I've tried Chinese products (JK branded BLE and RS-485) and the quality is what you'd expect. The BLE...

  • Post in thread: Adding Schneider XW Pro

Hum. My generator seems to be running fine. I mean you can hear when the load picks up (say the water pump kicks on,) but it seems to chug right along. My problems seem to be with the XW Pro. I can watch the status from the Conext Gateway and it seems to operate within tolerances I've set...
  • Post in thread: Lishen 272AH thread?

I stand corrected!!! I just found this PDF on Schneider's web site: https://solar.schneider-electric.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Conext-XW-PRO-Li-ion-Battery-Solution-Guide990-6359_rev-.pdf I guess this puts my Conext Battery Monitor on the chopping block. All I need is a CAN or RS485...
  • Post in thread: Orion Jr.2 BMS thread

Well, I finally got GWL to ship me a new cell monitoring board. It has worked for the last week allowing me to monitor cell voltages using my "conext-api" integration with Home Assistant. It is quite a bit cheaper than the Orion Jr. (and I already bought it) so I'm going to stay on my original...
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

Interesting. I wonder if this applies to also having an SCP. I just looked at my SCP and it does have an option for StdBy. Did you find any docs that say not to do this w/o a Combox or Gateway?
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

No problem. I created a video on my YT channel where I demonstrated my setup w/Home Assistant: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8_TU2g-Yl1oMCts3pkXCbQ And I did publish the code on Github. If there's interest, I could publish another video going into more details on getting this seutp.
  • Post in thread: Lishen 272AH thread?

Seems like a lot of the bigger Inverter mfgs are tight-lipped with their protocol. I was close to going with Victron for the integration aspects and there's a ton of practical information on the InterWebs. The convenient aspect of my current setup, I already have the Conext Gateway2. I...
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

Are you planning to purchase Schneider? I can't say enough about how they've stepped up to provide me service. I lost one of the PDP hinge brackets while I was installing it and they sent out a whole new unit and paid for shipping here and back. I removed the bracket from thew new unit and...
  • Post in thread: Seplos BMS and RS485 coms to PC

Bought a new USB to RS485 adapter and it works now, albeit at 9600 baud (odd.) I can see individual packs as well as packs connected in series (set via dip switches.)
  • Post in thread: AC-DC Charger for 24V/48V LiFePO4

So I'm not the only one. The batteries I purchased do not have screw down terminals, so I'll need to figure that one out. My inverter/charger and Solar CC is in transit (Schneider fanboy here.) I've got 4kW of LG solar panels to install as well - so I've got time to figure this one out. Lots...
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

Ah. I see it now. Now that you mention it, I seem to recall my MPPT60's used to do something like that (I have the Schneider BatMon) and I changed something a while back and now they don't. Hum. The other thing missing from the MPPT's is the ability to flip to Absorb. I have my setup...
  • Post in thread: Advice from all you experts

I live off-grid in Southern Arizona (~30 miles South of Tucson airport and ~40 miles East.) I originally setup a ~4kW array (panel specs) and saw peak production hit about 3.3kW (partially due to my choice in CC - Schneider MPPT-60-150 and having the panels setup in a 4 strings of 3 panels in...
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

I assume you have the 4.2V cells since you're doing 14S. It's usually best to parallel first, then series when you build your battery - make one big battery then all you need is a 14S BMS. You'll want to make sure they are all equalized. What I did with mine was to parallel all 64 cells and...
  • Post in thread: Adding Schneider XW Pro

My XW Pro has been working like a champ. I've upgraded to 1.11 and I get all of the extra settings (but I can't find any docs to explain them all.) I'm 100% off-grid and we've been hitting triple digit temps here in So. AZ (+3700 Ft Alt) on a consistent basis (it's actually unusual for us to...
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

Here's the response I just back from Andrew. Now I'm not so sure about this one. I did notice that Elithion shows on their website that you can order their Vinci-LV BMS with XanBus communications support. I'm going to investigate this one a bit more...
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

I just might have to do that. I'm going to look at other options too like the Arduino. If I could find other sources for the cell monitor board that could give us options.
  • Post in thread: Schneider XW+ Pro technical support win

I could have used one of those. My wife and I first lifted the new RMA XW Pro onto a table, then we got on step-stools and muscled it up the rest of the way onto the mounting bracket. She bitched and moaned for 2 days after that fun experience. I enclosed the equipment room to insulate/sound...
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

I've updated the API to now display the correct temperature of the batteries if you have a probe plugged into your system. It took me a while to figure out how they are calculating the value and Schneider support didn't even have the answer. I happened across it in the latest BatMon manual...
  • Post in thread: Wire cutters

I couldn't find a better section in the forums to post this question, but what do others recommend for cutting 4/0 copper battery cables? It seems the one Will recommends only states it will cut up to 2/0 copper.
  • Post in thread: BMS for Schneider Conext

Sounds good! Good point about Bulk->Absorb->Float. I have witnessed that behavior. That's interesting about the charge current. It seems like the SEPLOS BMS's are determining CC/CV. Do you have any data when the SEPLOS start to decrease the charge current? I'm wondering how closely it...
