  • Post in thread: the easy way to keep your cells balanced is...active balancing

I use a Heltec Capacitor Active Balancer from amazon or aliexpress. Be careful when you use a capacitor active balancer , make sure you pre-charge the capacitors before you hook it up to your battery, I use a resistor on the negative lead to pre-charge the capacitors before I connect up the...
  • Post in thread: 20K users imminent!

It is hard to imagine that when I joined the forum back in Sept of 2019 that it would grow so quickly. The forum has been a great source of information and has encouraged others to use solar, helping the environment. Thanks Will and everyone else who contributes to the forum.

  • Post in thread: Lishen 272ah Cells Aluminum Case Positive?

I am in the process of top balancing my new Lishen cells and thought I would check the leakage from the negative terminal and the cells outer case. I took my meter and measured voltage between the neg terminal and the QR code metal plate , found 3.40 volts. then I took 12 volt landscape light...

Will, quit asking so many questions, just buy Mr Green's batteries.
  • Post in thread: the easy way to keep your cells balanced is...active balancing

I started using an active balancer on my used BYD 24v battery pack which kept the battery balanced and helped increase the capacity. I now have one on my new 280 ah ,24v battery pack. They work great and keep the battery well balanced. My active balancers have capacitors which move power from...
  • Post in thread: Copper coil pipe in chest freezer to heat exchange radiator

You are just moving heat around, from the room, to the freezer, back into the room from the heat made by the freezer. You will only make the room hotter. you need to remove the heat to the outside , that is what an AC unit does. It transfers heat from inside the room to the outdoors.
  • Post in thread: BYD LiFePO4 battery fiasco update

I saw Wills capacity test on the BYD battery, they are being advertises at around 4kwh to 4.5 kwh and come in between 3-3.76 kwh and some even less, very misleading. But instead of returning them to Battery Hookup for a full refund. they should refund us the difference between a 4kwh and a 3kwh...
  • Post in thread: Run the underground conduit for future tiny house?

Place your draw string or pull string thru the conduit as you assemble the conduit. Dropping a pull string with a weighted end thru a 10' piece of conduit b4 gluing it together is an easy and cheap way to install the pull string. Good Luck
  • Post in thread: Does anyone try to claim warranty of MPP Solar product?

Mpp Solar USA and Ian Roux are the best, he help me upgrade from the 12 volt unit to the 24 volt unit. Nice person to talk to on the phone. My 24 volt unit is working flawlessly. Thanks Ian.
  • Post in thread: Dongguan Lighting: Purchase 280AH LiFePo4 cells. Purchase & Review

Those are huge batteries and you are only adding 6.5 amps, they should be fine. 280 ah X 8 batteries = 2240 ah. So adding 6.5 amps per hour is a small charge.
  • Post in thread: No Amps Charging from Panels Only From Shore Charge

The negative cable from your SCC should go thru the BMS. It looks like you have it connected to the battery, I think it should be connected to the C- of the bms not to the B-.
  • Post in thread: Leaking Electrolyte from Bigbattery Powerblock

If the leaking is coming from the over pressure relief valve, the simple solution would be to have the relief valve on top of the battery so the fluid does not leak out of the relief valve. I have read that the batteries can be oriented on their sides, ( most of us build out batteries with the...
  • Post in thread: Overkill bms keeps shutting down discharging.

On the app, if you go to the menu page and then to the functions settings page, you can turn on or off the temp sensors. I had trouble with one of my temp sensors and just turned it off. See if this lets your bms start working.

Looks great, it is always good to recycle stuff. Now the journey begins, before you know it you will be completely off-grid. Welcome to the party.
  • Post in thread: Breaker finder

I use a small portable radio, plug it in and turn it up really loud and start turning off breakers until you can't hear it anymore. Of course you have to be close enough to hear the radio and have doors open to hear it.
  • Post in thread: Is Watts247.com a reputable company?

I have also bought from Ian and had great customer service from him. You may want to check out these two Youtube channels, both are dealing with defective used panels, HighTechLab and Off-Grid Garage. At least with new panels you know exactly what you are paying for.
  • Post in thread: Leaking battery in my Multimeter

Just a quick reminder to check your batteries in your meters and tester. I was just testing some resistors with my multimeter and was getting some very strange reading, so I thought I would change the AAA batteries. It is a good thing I did as one of the AAA batteries was leaking, I cleaned the...
  • Post in thread: Has really no one ever tested to get power from sunrise till sunset ?

Interesting video, as always your situation depends on your location and your demands. You could try having half the panels facing east and half facing west then you can compare the results. If you could move half the panels to the west roof temporally to test your idea , that may give you the...
  • Post in thread: MPP Solar LV2424 kicks butt!!!

Erik, great information. this is how I have my Mpp connected, it goes through my Reliance Control transfer panel and allows me to pick which circuits to use with my inverter . Also lets me use fewer circuits when my panel output is low from cloud, rainy days and my batteries do not get fully...
  • Post in thread: BYD LiFePO4 battery fiasco update

Just read an email reply from Battery Hookup, they will refund 25% of the battery cost if I want to keep the battery. I told them I will keep the battery and accept the 25% refund. What a great and honest company. Here is a copy of their email. Hi Douglas, I'm very sorry for all of the trouble...

You should check out Andy at Off-Grid Garage on you tube. He just built two of these Seplos batteries. He does gerat stuff with solar.
  • Post in thread: the easy way to keep your cells balanced is...active balancing

You can connect both the bms and an active balancer, the active balancer will help balance the cells and the bms will protect the battery from over and under voltage at the cell level . The bms may protect the battery from low temperature if it has low temp. cutoff feature. The bms can protect...
