I use a Heltec Capacitor Active Balancer from amazon or aliexpress. Be careful when you use a capacitor active balancer , make sure you pre-charge the capacitors before you hook it up to your battery, I use a resistor on the negative lead to pre-charge the capacitors before I connect up the...
It is hard to imagine that when I joined the forum back in Sept of 2019 that it would grow so quickly. The forum has been a great source of information and has encouraged others to use solar, helping the environment. Thanks Will and everyone else who contributes to the forum.
I bought copper flat stock from 6061dude on ebay Then cut to length and drilled some holes they work well. He shipped really quickly (2 days). 2 Pieces 1/8" x 3/4" C110 COPPER BAR 12" long Solid Flat Mill Bus Bar Stock . this was the header. Good luck
The light green box to the right of the AC unit with the ATT badge, is a CEV ( Control Enviroment Vault). They can be as small as 6'x8' or as big as 8'x12' and 8' heigh inside . They are underground rooms for fiber optical cable equipment and multiplexers. They are equipted with AC , heaters...
I am in the process of top balancing my new Lishen cells and thought I would check the leakage from the negative terminal and the cells outer case. I took my meter and measured voltage between the neg terminal and the QR code metal plate , found 3.40 volts. then I took 12 volt landscape light...
I started using an active balancer on my used BYD 24v battery pack which kept the battery balanced and helped increase the capacity. I now have one on my new 280 ah ,24v battery pack. They work great and keep the battery well balanced. My active balancers have capacitors which move power from...
You are just moving heat around, from the room, to the freezer, back into the room from the heat made by the freezer. You will only make the room hotter. you need to remove the heat to the outside , that is what an AC unit does. It transfers heat from inside the room to the outdoors.
I saw Wills capacity test on the BYD battery, they are being advertises at around 4kwh to 4.5 kwh and come in between 3-3.76 kwh and some even less, very misleading. But instead of returning them to Battery Hookup for a full refund. they should refund us the difference between a 4kwh and a 3kwh...
Place your draw string or pull string thru the conduit as you assemble the conduit. Dropping a pull string with a weighted end thru a 10' piece of conduit b4 gluing it together is an easy and cheap way to install the pull string. Good Luck
Mpp Solar USA and Ian Roux are the best, he help me upgrade from the 12 volt unit to the 24 volt unit. Nice person to talk to on the phone. My 24 volt unit is working flawlessly. Thanks Ian.
Those are huge batteries and you are only adding 6.5 amps, they should be fine. 280 ah X 8 batteries = 2240 ah. So adding 6.5 amps per hour is a small charge.
Tim Burke welcome to the forum, Great way to introduce yourself and start a fight. The DIYer enjoy being put down by knowledgeable educated professionals, thanks. Maybe you should go to the forum with smarter people like yourself.
The negative cable from your SCC should go thru the BMS. It looks like you have it connected to the battery, I think it should be connected to the C- of the bms not to the B-.
If the leaking is coming from the over pressure relief valve, the simple solution would be to have the relief valve on top of the battery so the fluid does not leak out of the relief valve. I have read that the batteries can be oriented on their sides, ( most of us build out batteries with the...
Snow on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Only 1 or 2 inches but ice under the snow, the island has no snow removal equipment so we will wait for sunny days to melt the snow off the streets and my panels. JJJJ stop by a few weeks ago to talk solar and look at my system. What a difference a...
On the app, if you go to the menu page and then to the functions settings page, you can turn on or off the temp sensors. I had trouble with one of my temp sensors and just turned it off. See if this lets your bms start working.
I use a small portable radio, plug it in and turn it up really loud and start turning off breakers until you can't hear it anymore. Of course you have to be close enough to hear the radio and have doors open to hear it.
I have also bought from Ian and had great customer service from him. You may want to check out these two Youtube channels, both are dealing with defective used panels, HighTechLab and Off-Grid Garage. At least with new panels you know exactly what you are paying for.
Just a quick reminder to check your batteries in your meters and tester. I was just testing some resistors with my multimeter and was getting some very strange reading, so I thought I would change the AAA batteries. It is a good thing I did as one of the AAA batteries was leaking, I cleaned the...
Interesting video, as always your situation depends on your location and your demands. You could try having half the panels facing east and half facing west then you can compare the results. If you could move half the panels to the west roof temporally to test your idea , that may give you the...
Erik, great information. this is how I have my Mpp connected, it goes through my Reliance Control transfer panel and allows me to pick which circuits to use with my inverter . Also lets me use fewer circuits when my panel output is low from cloud, rainy days and my batteries do not get fully...
Just read an email reply from Battery Hookup, they will refund 25% of the battery cost if I want to keep the battery. I told them I will keep the battery and accept the 25% refund. What a great and honest company. Here is a copy of their email.
Hi Douglas,
I'm very sorry for all of the trouble...
You can connect both the bms and an active balancer, the active balancer will help balance the cells and the bms will protect the battery from over and under voltage at the cell level . The bms may protect the battery from low temperature if it has low temp. cutoff feature. The bms can protect...
I would think that if Growatt did modify these units at the factory that they would identify or labeled the units as modified and include this information on the unit to make sure they are not used in an European system. SS were the only people who knew that these units are modified and only now...
Gangsterdave, welcome to the forum, I have the same MPP unit and the fans run 24/7, if you do find an easy way to have the fans turn off during a low load that would be great. So far I have not found anyway to do that. Mine is in a garage so the noise does not bother anyone. Just ignore the long...
Is the transfer switch connecting to the main panel or the sub panel? If it is connecting to the main panel , I would wire it the way that Reliance explains in the manual.
thisisnew, the output on the mpp shows 120v, this is what is available at the output connection not the consumption from the output. The consumption would be the amp output reading. Regarding cell #2 spike, I would double check the battery connections between the cells, look for a loose...
It will take a long time (days) , also move one of the charger leads to the far end of the battery , so the charge goes through all the batteries. You may have to extend the lead but you will get better results with the positive lead on one end of the battery and the negative lead on the other end.
I just sent a email to Battery Hookup with a copy of my post, lets see what their response is. This forum has a strong voice and has many ears listening. Company should do the right thing, those who do will prosper and those who do not will not prosper
When you connected everything together, was it also connected to the Mulitplus? If it was connected to the Multiplus then the capacitors were charged up and when you turned off the battery switch then you are reading the capacitors in the Multiplus. You can check this by disconnecting the...
Yes Mr Green, Why don't you answer the questions ask by the concerned forum members about this leaking battery of Seth??? Never mind. I am done with BB and Mr Green.
Success, I completed the install of my new JK bms today and everything is working properly. It is nice to see it balance with about 2 amps, I have always had one cell that would act up on charging, it has been that way from the beginning.( over two years). the new JK bms is keeping that cell...
Do you really think the data on your phone or on a secure cloud is really secure. Who do you think controls those sites? Big Corps and the government. The only way to secure information is to not have it in digital form in the first place. In this digital world your information and locations are...
Nice job ArthurEld , It is great to see someone do the work and include pictures. So many people on the forum only have idea or opinions but never try something constructive. Good luck with your battery project.
I am a retired Telco field tech and Red Squirrel is correct, the fiber to the node has back-up batteries that can be charged from a portable gas generator when the grid goes down. The ones I worked with would lasted about 8 hours before they were dead, it also depends on the usage by the...
I do not think we have a choice of paying in to SSA . I had to pay into SSA for over 45 years with the promise that I would get money after a certain retirement age. A system the government invented and mishandled. The problem is not the system but the lack of backbone in the US Congress to do...
Ok Lets see if I can explain how my system works with the reliance transfer switch. The transfer switch is hard wired to my main panel with 6 circuit running thru it. The picture of the inside of the transfer switch shows the last 2 circuits on the right turned to gen.(solar ) The other 4...
I found one problem, the Daly BMS with a separate port connected to the charge controller was restricting the charge current. So I wired the charge controller straight to the battery and the charging improved. I had ordered the separate port BMS before reading that it restricted charging. Also...
I also have two 24v lifepo batteries in parallel , one with an ant bms, the other one has an overkill bms. I have observed the same problem between the two bms SOC being different, resets does help for a while then they drift apart from each other. What I did was buy a victron smart shunt ...
Look great and it is a wonderful idea to help the people who work the hardest to keep the forum alive. I have been here from the beginning and have learned so much from everyone and could not have made my batteries and system without everyones help. Thanks Will for starting the forum. Looking...
These are lifepo batteries ( as Steve stated as I was typing) ,so you want to use the LiFe/ 3.6 V setting. The other thing you should know about these batteries is that they are used and most of these batteries do not like to be charged above then 27.2 volt for the pack or 3.4 volt per cell...
This is on the MPP solar website under wifi module, I hope it makes sense, This Wifi Module enables users to perform real-time monitoring of inverter data right on your cell phone. Inverter data is sent from the WIFI module to cloud server for processing (internet connection from a router...
You need an inverter that is 120 VAC output for north America, plugging into a 230 vac with a 115 vac is dangerous, thanks goodness for fuses. Can you return it for a 120 VAC unit? Please do not try to use a transformer to convert it to 120 vac, as you will be asking for more trouble.
The Victron shunt can be read thru Bluetooth, you can read it thru wifi but you need other Victron componence to do that. Check out Victron web site to fully understand how to read it over wifi.
What you found is a Telephone drop wire ( the wire from the pole to the protector box on the outside of a house). It is copper clad steel wire, the steel was for strength and copper for voice. The outside has a cotton thread mixed with rubber around an inside insulation. It is from the 1940s...
You may want to look at Andy's you tube channel or go to his web site off-grid-garage.com . At the top right go to tools then, my settings, he has his setting for a victron smart shunt and a link to a video about the settings. His you tube channel is full of great information.
You have a very professional installation and you should be proud of the craftsmanship that you put into the work. Welcome to the forum, I am sure you will be able to help many people on the forum. I like the swim up bar in the pool, could I get a Rum and coke please?
I have a multiplus as part of my system and I can see the same flicker on some, but not all, of my led bulbs. I find that only centain leds flicker and others do not, must be how they are manufactured. My total power is less than the multiplus is rated for and the flicker seems less if I have...
Will the generator interlock on the main box disconnect all of the main box from the grid and only get power from your generator( gas or solar input) ? If you are disconnected from the grid then you only have the capacity of you generator ( gas or solar). The reliance transfer switch allowes...
I purchased 8 230ah cells from them in dec. The cell have been perfect, in great condition , well balanced and stay well balanced. I paid for the garde A cells because I had trouble in the past with grade B cell from other sellers. I am always surprised that poeple purchase grade B cell after...
That is a great video, I have seen it before on this web site. This video is what convinced me to use double pole dc breakers on my system. The double pole breakers disconnects both the positive and negative side of the circuit which will prevent this kind of dc arcing. Thanks for posting the...
Turn all the breakers off, then try reconnecting you inverters with one on L1 and the other on L2 , you said in the first post that it worked before you added loads. Add the 120v loads slowly and see if the inverters work correctly. Leave the 50 amp breaker off , I think you are getting the two...
Victronenergy.com has a lot of system schematics for trailers and mobile wiring, with a lot of information. Just go to victronenergy.com, downloads, system schematics, multi plus , US van drawings. The schematics are more than you may need but it shows grounding and bonding for a mobile unit. If...
I found one on Aliexpress and the review said "Small display for handlebar mount. Good brightness but no settings possible". Looks like it is a handlebar mount for an ebike. Is there a set screw to attach it to a handle bar?
I have not used Alibaba, but I have bought my JK bsm from Hankzor BSM Store on Aliexpress. I have bought two from them at different times and have had no problems. Good Luck.
You should check out Off Grid Garage on youtube. Andy has a video of his settings for these jk bsm, some problems with these bsm and solutions for these bms. He likes them and has regular contact with Jk to resolves issues he and his followers find. Good Luck.
I purchased (on Monday) the same Mpp unit from a USA seller on Ebay. The seller is usa-mpp-solar and is located in Utah. They warned about the over-sea sellers and getting warranty problem resolved. The ebay seller is up front about the units, they are not in their warehouse yet as they are...
How are your batteries connect in parallel? Can you switch the batteries around to see if the trouble followes a battery or stays the same. You could switch the bms around to see if the trouble followes a bms.
Look at www.MikeHolt.com or youtube his video talking about grounding PV arrays and NEC 690.47 d. It may not be a good idea to have two different ground rods. I had to watch it a couple of times to grasp all the information.
The way you have it allows you to switch source from grid/generator or inverter, and be able to manually tranfer different loads onto the inverter.
Madmax, The way I have my set up is, to manually transfer loads out of the inverter to the different loads thru the transfer switch. My MPP will...
The screenshot show the cell wire resistance for each cell, the measurments seem all over the place. My jk bms shows my cells wire resisrance very close to each other. I am not sure if this matters, just an observation. Do others with a jk bms have cell wire resistance measurment close to each...
I have the mpp PIP 2424LV-MS unit which is of course 24 volts. But what I do to charge the battery with grid power is, 1. connect the batteries( da), 2. connect the AC to the input, and nothing on the AC output, 3. then turn the power switch on the side of the unit to off (this turns the...
Lets start with the simple stuff first. Did you top balance the cells before building the batteries? Can you use the jk bms app to look at your settings? I find it hard to read your charts but I think one of your bms is turning off when one cell in over voltage, what do you have the OVP set at...
Install solar panels on his electric golf cart and then take it to the Las Vegas strip at night to see if it will charge from all the lights that is wasted from the casinos strip lighting. When I have been there the nights seem almost as bright as the days.
I use a Reliance 6 circuit transfer switch with my mpp AIO. It is the safest way to do what you want to do. It will always keep the grid power and your solar generated AC separate. There is no chance of back feeding from one system to the other. You also have the choice of what circuits wired...
Growing up , my best friend's father was a professional magician. He taught me about misdirection. While he directs you to look over here , the trick is being done over there. That is what the world has watched us do to our selves. We worry about who can sleep with whom, who's god is the true...
You need to the AC input to be different phases of your AC panel. Each phase from your AC panel needs to feed a separate mpp unit. You said that your AC input is on the same circuit, I think that is your problem. Also you need the correct connectors where wires enter the panels, sticking the...
When I top balance my cells , I place them in parallel, then connect my PSU leads ,one on the first cell ( + ) and the other to the ( - ) terminal of the last cell. I do not think it is good to connect both + and - to the first cell in parallel, this may explain the cell differences.
