diy solar

20K users imminent!

thank you @upnorthandpersonal

edit: running it in WSL ubuntu in windows 10

(as a side thought, simply pinging the server might not capture the behavior)

positing that the latency to the server is nominal, and that the generation of the content might be the bottleneck. either way i'll try to plot this output in gnuplot or something and share after a couple dozen hours.

edit again: also running wget on same 10 minute interval for a little bit to see what the main page loading is like.

watch -n600 'wget -a diysolarforum_wget_log.txt -d -v -t 1 -S -w 10 --no-http-keep-alive --no-cookies --https-only --delete-after https://diysolarforum.com/'

The httping command as I wrote it also downloads the generated content:
-G Do a GET request instead of a HEAD request: this means that also the complete
page/file must be transferred. Note that in this case you're no longer measuring
the latency!

This is the graph of the past week or so. A couple outliers, but nothing in particular:

@Steve_S What actions cause it to lag for you? It says that pages with embedded videos take longer to load. Seems to work great for me.
It works fine for me also. In fact, this is one of the better sites out there. Whoever is managing and developing this site should win an award. Very intuitive and fast. I am a systems architect for a major technology company, and wrote a book on storage networking, so I know what is good or bad from an interface and back end standpoint.( I assume this is running an AWS or Azure, and not on prem).
If so, monthly costs will go up as you scale. There does come a point where bringing it on prem with HCI gear is actually less expensive. You will know, when your like "Holy crap", what's this bill for! But thats a ways away for this site.

It is hard to imagine that when I joined the forum back in Sept of 2019 that it would grow so quickly. The forum has been a great source of information and has encouraged others to use solar, helping the environment. Thanks Will and everyone else who contributes to the forum.

Hey Boss,

Can we get a better "in house" search engine?
Dopey bastards like me can't find squat with the one running today.
?

Use Google like this: "48v inverter SITE:diysolarforum.net". It will search only the forum website for the keywords "48v inverter".
I just figured it would benefit users to have that, or similar, implanted within our search.
But thanks, I think I knew that about 8 years ago. Fergot.

The search we have right now is already an improved version than the standard one that comes with the forum. Have you tried 'advanced search'? Also, if you want to search for terms together (such as "48V inverter"), use quotes as per this example, otherwise it will search for terms individually.

So the forum search allows quote marks? ?
Interestingly, Andy at off grid garage just hit 20k subscribers! Our community is growing fast! I need Will to start reviewing ebike batteries too! 18650 and 21700 cells rule that space, but I think LiFePo4 may be interesting in that use case also.
