8.6KW of solar on this one.... Currently sitting with a total of 17.5 KW of solar on my property and it still feels empty... I guess ill build a second one. So i built this out of treated wood (mostly). Its 42 feet long x 4 feet wide x 6 feet tall with 11ft uni-strut. Total cost for wood: $420...
  • Post in thread: Small wind turbines no longer worth it?

I did it the other way. Sirby, to be honest a small turbine does work if your not requiring a lot of performance from it. I have 2 6V batteries hooked up to my turbine and there was enough to keep it charged even in winter at -30C. All I was running off my batteries (200 AH each) were lights and...
  • Post in thread: lithium cells over voltage

Looks like this was a few bad wire leeds. #15,14,6,5,4,1 and the main neg all tested bad. Replaced the wire leeds and everything is back up and running. After replacing the wires all voltages were within normal range. The 2 individual cells that were over voltage before, were actually only...
  • Post in thread: Just finished my new ground mount

Here is the back side. Still working on the wiring. There is a few things i need to adjust, like a panel or 2 that is not sitting perfect, but ill do that in September. Its been way to hot to do it. Close your eyes to the conduit on top that is not straight. I put it up in winter and i guess in...

oh lol right didnt notice the luxpower label at the bottom... I need more coffee
  • Post in thread: Designing a new house around my current and future solar system

It is a 48V battery system with LFP cells On the topic of using multiple inverters for different areas of the house..... My thought was some appliances are very power hungry like stove, AC, heating, so i thought maybe there was some benefit to a dedicated inverter to those loads.
  • Post in thread: Just finished my new ground mount

I bought a telescopic brush from Walmart 10$ and i use that to take most of the heavy snow off to aid it. I could leave the snow on there and it will melt, however if i want the panels to be more efficient then removing the snow will help generate power faster. I do take my snow blower and clean...
  • Post in thread: Small wind turbines no longer worth it?

Id be happy to share photos and info on what i did to anyone who is interested. Mine is simply testing purposes right now. I have a power meter monitoring how much power i am collecting. Im trying to see if i can do a solar/wind system for my new house. And i honestly didnt spend much.
  • Post in thread: Small wind turbines no longer worth it?

I put up a 400w 27 ft pole with 2 6v batteries very cheap. Yes the turbine is only good for lights but it was more of a test for how it would work in -40c manitoba winters. It does work if you are not requiring it to power big loads. My batteries never dropped below 12v even with it being so...
  • Post in thread: one BMS taking more load in a multi battery bank setup

update: this JBA bms is no longer working. The BMS locked itself in protection mode and wouldnt release even though the battery was fully charged. So i am going to swap it with the same style JK BMS and see if it works better. lol i was thinking of taking a photo last night of the system, but i...
  • Post in thread: Wind Generator 48v, 3000w , some questions !

I have been testing a 400w wind turbine for about a year now. It wasn't my intention to keep it up this long. Needed to test my pole prototypes. (first one failed) anyway..... yes you will be disappointed in performance. you will never get the full rated power, you might get 1/3 of what it says...
  • Post in thread: Designing a new house around my current and future solar system

what inverters are you running for your separate systems currently if you wont mind me asking? I have been looking at getting some EG4 units, but still not sold completely on them.
  • Post in thread: Brand new to solar

Good day, I was recently given 8 used solar panels from a farm down the road. These panels were only in service for 4 years. Each panel is 230W. I really didnt plan on jumping into solar so quick but since i have them, i want to make use of the potential energy. I was thinking about adding power...
  • Post in thread: Lithium vs flooded/AGM with current prices, is it worth it.

The heaters are 240v (2 of them) and they would only run in winter. I had the heaters running this last winter and they were set to low running during the day only. Amp draw for both was 26a total and they were on for maybe 5-10 mins at a time and off for 20 mins. (this is winter use only) The...
  • Post in thread: Growatt 6KW inverters and over paneling

Thanks for the info. I havent started making a plan for this install. I am revamping my battery banks, but when i do ill definitely reach out. Thanks
  • Post in thread: first victron smart shunt

Thanks, how would i go about using the victron shunt to monitor 4 batteries?
  • Post in thread: Growatt 6KW inverters and over paneling

I will post of photo of the label on the panels later when i get home. Here is a link to the spec sheet: https://www.q-cells.us/dam/jcr:a842d475-e412-4a1c-9fdd-386737df3a50/Q_CELLS_Data_sheet_Q.PEAK_DUO_XL-G10.2_470-495_2022-01_Rev03_NA.pdf I have the 480w panels. My idea was to rewire to 4...
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 Cells - Shenzhen Hongxinda New Energy Co. - Alibaba

I hope your cells have no issues because i bought 32 cells from this company and when i opened one of the boxes, 3 cells had welded studs missing on the POS terminals. i was told to get the cells drilled. Long story short.. the sales lady said dont go more than 4mm... at 2.8mm the cells were...
  • Post in thread: Has anyone dealt with Microgreen.ca?

I have dealt with Microgreen on the commercial side of things because all my purchases were done via my own company, but from what i have experienced, they are learning and always improving on their service. After sales service is good, they do try to solve your issues in a timely manner. I know...
  • Post in thread: How many smart shunts are needed in a multi-battery setup?

So after fixing most of my system failures at -40C, i installed my first victron smart shunt. Its monitoring (2) 48v battery banks. I have 3 battery banks with more cells on the way to make it 4. Total (current) capacity of battery storage is 930AH. This will change in 2 months to 1240AH. So the...
  • Post in thread: Designing a new house around my current and future solar system

Yeah the wiring would be fun lol. I still have a bit of time to decide what to do for this new build. Hoping some of the new inverters out there will work out all their kinks. Maybe ill have to explore paralleling units. Thanks for all the help guys!
  • Post in thread: Growatt 6KW inverters and over paneling

Max PV charge current is 80A. I dont have smaller panels but i do have access to a lot of the larger panels. These are the solar charge controller specs on my unit.
  • Post in thread: [SOLVED: (NEWBIE ERROR)] JK BMS (JK-B2A24S20P) 43.0V PD between B+ BMS cable & Battery +ve (16S configuration)

One thing i have found with this style BMS is if you just buy the BMS and not the power on button accessory, you may have to add extra voltage to wake the unit up. For some reason it needs to see a higher voltage before the bms will turn on. An easy fix is to jumper a 9v or 6v battery to the...
  • Post in thread: Combining 2 charge controllers to charge one battery bank

I am sure this has been discussed in the past, but i have a few questions. I have 3 - 230W solar panels and 1 - 40A & 1 - 20A EPEVER Charge controllers. Right now i have 2 panels connected to one controller in series going to my battery bank. I would like to add another panel and controller...
  • Post in thread: lithium cells over voltage

I have 2 cells in a 16s configuration that are 3.86V. The remaining cells are all perfectly fine, all in a normal range. I reached out to the supplier of JK bms and they believe that the welding in the cells are faulty. These cells have worked fine for 4 months. They have been charged to 100%...
  • Post in thread: seplos battery monitor software help

Hi guys, Im sure this has been covered soo many times but i bought a DIY battery kit from QSO i am having issues getting this monitoring software to work. I got a RS485 to usb adapter and wired it according to the manual. The software.... so i followed the instructions: first import the...
  • Post in thread: LFP cells gone bad

Internal resistance is basically equivalent to a short. Everytime i try to charge the cells, the voltage hovers around .74V and as soon as you remove the power source it drops to zero. Im pretty sure these cells are garbage.
  • Post in thread: Growatt 6K cause power outages at night

My issue isnt exactly the same. The voltage does fluctuate once the sun goes down between 116V-121V but that is still within the voltage range. I hooked up my other 6KW Growatt inverter and it doesnt have the same issues. I also tested everything with my EG4 inverter and it works as it should...
  • Post in thread: battery banks with different capacities

I have a 100ah 48v battery at my cabin and i am looking to expand. I was planning on adding 16 230ah 48v battery bank in parallel. Is there any cons to using 2 very different sized banks together? I have a friend who is interested in buying my 100 ah cells. My other option is to buy 304ah cells...
