Testing EG4 6000XP AIO inverter.

Okay peaked my curiosity when Will mentioned it in his video cause it could supplement mine just enough to be able to put my 18kpv in "off grid mode". My wife somehow can get it up to 15kw when she's home alone ha. be a lot cheaper then adding a second when i don't need that much.
 
Hi @Zapper77, Great to see you had the opportunity to test the 6000XP for a few weeks. I have a few questions that other folks might be interested in as well.
  • You mentioned no light flicker/disco. Did you have this issue with the inverter this one replaced? Maybe it was with your 6500EX?
  • How loud are the fans when charging the batteries from solar? The 6500EX is very loud.
  • What size breaker and wire did you use that feeds the inverter since it supports such a high surge?
  • What direction is the airflow for cooling?
  • How does this unit compare to your retired 6500EX unit?

Really appreciate the feedback.

1. I have/had 2-6500ex in parallel that had disco light issues. I only have 1 6000xp that I've been using/testing

2. Solar MPPTs are cooled by a single lower fan which only comes on when solar is present. Fans in general are equal to the 18Kpv noise They are load but not like the 6500ex turbine fans. (It's been a while since my 6500ex have been powered on)

3. Power from Grid, I used 50amp two pole with 6awg. The built-in inverter breaker may fit 4awg but the common neutral and ground maxes out at 6awg. It may be possible that THHN would fit better. I don't have 4AWG THHN on hand to test.

4. Right to left. Right side may have a filter, I'm not at home to look.

5. Performance I'd say 6000xp is better but I used my 6500ex in parallel.

Lower idle
slightly less noise (subjective)
wire box is hands down better
built-in breakers and PV disconnect
smooth mppt output (6500ex mppts output fluctuated when load would drop)
superior APP
LCD screen is comparable to the 6500ex but the 6000xp display scrolls through data automatically or you can click through the LCD data

Would have been a better beta test with a pair. I can remember the 6500EX worked fine as a single unit but problems showed up when using a pair in split phase.

Maybe EG4 will send you another. :)
 
Did you try it as a UPS for computers under load? Does it really switch fast enough to keep them running?

Looking at the specs, it should be fast enough as a single, but won't switch fast enough in parallel.

My expensive electronics all have UPS.

So do mine, but I'm sick of them. I would much rather have a whole house UPS going instead of replacing AGM's every couple years. Worst part is, I don't even know they need to be replaced until a power outage, when the battery just decides to inform me it's a goner.
 
Do you know if there is a custom battery type option? I can set my own parameters on my 6500ex for my non standard battery, but haven't found anything in the manuals for this one with a custom setting.

No, under lithium or a custom setting.

I've got tesla batteries. I'm using them in two different setups currently.

For my 6500ex setup I can set the proper voltages (for my battery). The standard setup voltage is too high.

Can't find anything in the 6000xp manual that specifically shows a custom option.
