  • Post in thread: Who is still building DIY batteries

I'm building my first pack now: I still have a lot to learn, but, it's going well so far!
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

Update time! Stage one complete! I forgot to get a pic of the screen showing solar input, but, the 3048 is in the general area where it will live. The reason why it took so long to get to this point is that the factory wiring wasn't connected to the gland on the roof. I had to figure out...
  • Post in thread: Would you like to help me pick an AIO?

In case anyone needs this info in the future: Running on battery with the inverter on, my 3048 is drawing 32W.
  • Post in thread: Inexpensive 20Ah lifepo4 battery by Moseworth: pretty good!

I popped the insulator off the BMS. It has a temp sensor on the board and looks fairly proper!
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

It's been a while, but things are escalating nicely. I've got two panels mounted on the roof, the 3048 working with the solar input, plugged into an outlet, and have had it running with the 20Ah Moseworth batteries. Nothing crazy, but, just proving the system. I recently bought 16 105Ah EVE...
  • Post in thread: Anyone experimented with boosting solar panel output with a mirrored surface?

Very excellent results, and there's a how-to video on how they made the concentrators.
  • Post in thread: Looking at these cells from EEL. Thoughts?

16 cells acquired from 18650 for a surprisingly good price. Let's see how quickly they actually ship, as I've already got the notification. Thanks, @42OhmsPA!
  • Post in thread: Is this a plausible amount of input from the panels?

Another update on this: With the cold, clear days with a sun higher in the sky, I've had several days of sustained, higher than sticker rating output from the panels. It's honestly been shocking to see how well just the two panels are performing when it's cool/cold and sunny. The peak, so far...
  • Post in thread: Running wires down the side of a trailer, neatly.

Not with a 2S2P configuration. Hmmm... Let me confirm the wire size. Well, I'll be darned. It's 10g. It's not great quality 10g, but it's 10g. So that's perfectly adequate. My goodness. I just assumed it was smaller. No idea why. But thank you for bringing that up and piquing my curiosity to...
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

It's dusk and it's still running. I've got the cables running through my door, and I've got other stuff to do, so, I'm calling it for the evening, though I wanted to see how long this would keep going.
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

I've had some help figuring out what's up with my batteries, and after a long, slow test overnight, everything is going well: This was a very valuable learning experience, and I think I can operate the 3048 much more safely now. I don't have any panels hooked up today. It's rainy and windy...
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

Taking the advice from Will, I made up two pigtails to test the pv input. I'm still waiting for the batteries to show up before I hook up the PV, abd in really hoping they show up before the sun goes down. Two panels are in full sun at the moment and I'm excited to s the system work! You may...
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

That's fair. And it is very much so lipstick on a pig, but, it's my pig and it's cheap enough that I'm saving for my own land to build a nice, efficient, cozy home. It's a means to an end, not, the end of my means. Overall, I like it. More than I expected to, in fact. I do wish I could have...
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

Temporary, as in 3-5 years. Maybe less if I keep working boatloads of OT when avaliable. I know it's not ideal, but, it's fine, and, I'd rather make my mistakes with this than a permanent home. And, I like projects like this so, I consider it a weird firm if entertainment as well. You don't...
  • Post in thread: Interesting BMS behavior: is this normal?

If I notice that the batteries are not taking the same amount of Ah, I'll experiment with a higher float.
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

Oh! I also ordered this. I think it will be useful for getting batteries topped off before install. It switched on and didn't blow up, so that's usually a good sign. I'll be testing it out with my o-scope in the not too distant future, so that will be something fun to look forward to. I...
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

I wondered about that... One potty is not great for any more than 1 person in a living space. Heck x the small house I've been designing for me has 3 toilets (and a urinal, because I want to pee standing up, dangit!). That's definitely right living quarters, but, I do hope that your home, once...
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

Update: I sent watts247 an email asking for some clarifications on two of their units that I am interested in: the 3048LV-MK and the LV6048. There is a deal going on with 2 of the 3048s that is very appealing in terms of redundancy, but it would take up more space than a single 6048. If both...
  • Post in thread: Interesting BMS behavior: is this normal?

The batteries expended 22.1Ah! I'm charging them via the 3048 now to verify that it's set correctly. It's happily taking 10.1A (what I've got the utility charger set to on the 3048) and I'm pleased that everything is working as expected so far. I also made sure the voltage will top out at 56.8...
  • Post in thread: Would you like to help me pick an AIO?

It's a long story that's extremely off topic, so, I'll not get into that here, but if you really want to know, DM me?
  • Post in thread: Would you like to help me pick an AIO?

Some of the diagrams in the manuals seem to directly conflict with stated capabilities. I asked for clarification. I already own a DC capable clamp meter, MC4 crimpers and disconnect tools, several battery cable crimpers, a heat gun, and a cordless driver (Milwaukee M12). I am very well aware...
  • Post in thread: Is this a plausible amount of input from the panels?

Yup. I'm going to be limited with what I can do on the roof, since I can only fit 4 panels of the current type up there. Once I move elsewhere, I'll be able to install a ground mount system and will simply add that to the input of the second 3048LV-MK. But, yes, I'm expecting to see more total...
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

It's arrived! I got it out of the box and powered it up with the 60V power supply that I bought. I changed a few of the settings, and was very glad to get rid of that beep. I wasn't expecting it to come with any coms board, so it's good that it at least comes with the RS232 and USB interface...
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

I talked with Ian from watt247 today. He answered my questions that I had. I decided to order one MPP 3048LV-MK for now. I don't need 6kW at this time. I still have a lot of other things to figure out. I know I can fit two of these units in my trailer. I don't mind paying a bit more shipping...
  • Post in thread: Building a new 16p 48v battery + solar for my RV, some (a lot) questions

I'll reply with what I'm fairly confident are correct answers. The ports aren't as important as the protocols. Having more built in protocols means you can just connect more things without having to do silly things to get everything talking. I am going to use JK, though I'm waiting to see if...
  • Post in thread: I have some 10/3, can I use it for both the AC in AND out of an AIO

Most of the time, I don't notice my converter, but, that's a pretty good point! I hadn't thought of that. My AIO is under my bed, but I haven't noticed it yet, and that's before I enclose that part of the pass through with Cement board, which should help even more with noise.
  • Post in thread: Would you like to help me pick an AIO?

I still appreciate your feedback! After testing the 3048 for a bit, I do think I made a good choice, though, there are a few things that should be improved to make this a really excellent unit. The wiring layout is kinda gross. The lack of a more modern communicating method (RS485 and some...
  • Post in thread: Looking at these cells from EEL. Thoughts?

No, I hadn't. Thank you. That's even less expensive even with shipping. Sweet!
  • Post in thread: 48V system install into my home, a 27' travel trailer.

Thanks! That's exactly what I'm here for! My concerns with this is that it would technically be breaking the warranty and many quieter designs do not flow as much as their noisier counterparts, which would be bad in a small space. I'm sure there is a happy medium, so, thank you for the...
  • Post in thread: Anyone experimented with boosting solar panel output with a mirrored surface?

Mirrors can be cheaper and lighter than another panel, and can be used in cases where another panel might not fit.
