  • Post in thread: Good deal? Used 18650s

Hey guys! I´m living in Greece, and I´ve been searching everywhere for used 18650 Lithium cells with minimal luck. Today in a shop I came across an old battery pack with a blown BMS (due to water damage), that the owner had kept at hand for 1 year. It's from an old Xiaomi scooter. The pack has...
  • Post in thread: Good deal? Used 18650s

right, meaning that if a cell is stored below 2.5 volts it is quickly destroyed, correct?
  • Post in thread: Good deal? Used 18650s

and by risk you are referring to the potential loss of investment, or safety wise? thanks for your feedback
  • Post in thread: Obvious answer? LED strip

Hey guys! I have a question that I fear might be redicilously obvious, but I just need to be sure: I have a LED strip that reads 12v per meter. When I then shorten this, say in half, would the voltage then be 6v? I´ve got 3S Li-ion 18650 for my set up, and my LED strip is 60 centimeters. Thanks!!
  • Post in thread: Constant buzzing sound 24v / 1200w victron inverter

So is the conclusion that this is perfectly normal for a Victron inverter (any inverter?)? Or did this guy sell me an inverter with a small buzzing problem? Mine is buzzing as long as it's on. Nothing to do with load.
  • Post in thread: Lithium batteries on airplanes

Hey! So I just got a bunch of old batteries off of a local el scooter vendor, while I´m visiting my family. I´m flying out of here in a couple of days, and from what I´ve researched - it´s not allowed to bring them on the airplane. Suppose I´d try anyway - Have any of you guys got any...
  • Post in thread: Obvious answer? LED strip

Ok, so that means that each LED is respectively 4v?
  • Post in thread: 2 sec short circuit - problem? NCR18650Bs

Hey guys! I´m finally experimenting with real battery and electricity projects after a long while of learning about it from a theoretical point of view! I´m aspiring to set up my own off grid power. But naturally I´m starting small, so I just recently got myself 3x NCR18650Bs to power first and...
  • Post in thread: 2 sec short circuit - problem? NCR18650Bs

Hey man! Thanks a lot for your feedback! I´m not sure it´s what you´d call a BMS - I have this thing for charging: https://grobotronics.com/lithium-battery-charger-module-1a-tp4056.html ( lithium battery charger module 1a - tp4056 ) The guy in the shop recommended me to choose 3 instead of 4...
  • Post in thread: New set up. Spark at connectors?

Hey So I just finished setting up this li-ion battery from repurposed cells. It's my first one of some scale (7S10P 29.4V 33AmpH), and it seems to work well. Now for the first time I hooked it up to my solar panels. They are each 50w, so I put them in series to give 24v. It looks as if...
  • Post in thread: Constant buzzing sound 24v / 1200w victron inverter

Hey! I bought a second hand Victron Phoenix 24v / 1200w inverter -- (seller promised it was literally just installed, and taken down again). When I use it with my battery (li-ion 29.4v) it gives an electric kind of buzzing sound that is quite annoying when there's not any other noise around...
  • Post in thread: Maximizing capacity Question!

Hey! I'm trying to harvest information on the advantages/disadvantages of different volt systems in battery builds. As I have 100x 18650 li-ion cells of 3000mah each to play with, I'm trying to determine what's the best set up. I've been dwelling over a 12v 4s set up or a 24v 7s set up. I...
  • Post in thread: What battery to sustain a variety of devices?

Hey guys! Small issue here I was hoping someone could shed some light on: For my off grid van life I need a battery to sustain a small variety of devices. Including cellphone, laptop, LED string lights, and the recharge station for my codless tools from DeWalt (batteries of 18v, charged by model...
  • Post in thread: Lithium batteries on airplanes

haha yeah right, i think you´ve got a good point there! I´ll leave them here for sure. I don´t think a courier service will be a good economic trade off with these old lithium cells. And I will cross borders! I haven´t opened them yet, but looks like indeed 18650s - I don´t have the means/tools...
  • Post in thread: Obvious answer? LED strip

    i second that! cheers guys!
  • Post in thread: Experimental battery pack set-up? Or well tested/functional format?

the most general applications, let's say. I will at some point hook up an inverter as well, for 230V appliances. But basically just general use in a van life without grid
  • Post in thread: What battery to sustain a variety of devices?

Yes friend! Great help! Thank you for your lengthly reply! I’m starting to form an image of what other applications are needed to run this battery set up. But to be clear: This battery, and this charger, given the right extra applications (the inverter i beleive?), would be suited to charge...
  • Post in thread: What battery to sustain a variety of devices?

Do you think li-ion batteries are superior to my use? As I understand it they support more «whimsical» charging as well, as opposed to following the cycles, which seems a little inpractical. I’m wondering if I should change the battery. Thanks!
  • Post in thread: Good deal? Used 18650s

even if all the batteries i'd use were from the same original pack? In other words, produced at the same time at the same place, and used all in the exact same way?
  • Post in thread: Experimental battery pack set-up? Or well tested/functional format?

really! why is that? They're almost new Panasonic NCR 18650B cells, ranging between 3000-3200, tested.
  • Post in thread: Maximizing capacity Question!

i've seen a few here and there online, but nothing that appealed to me too much. Any one design in particular you'd recommend?
  • Post in thread: Good deal? Used 18650s

hahaha. Appreciate the graphic talk! Right, so I know there's always a potential risk that lithium batteries can explode. As far as I've understood at least with over charge, high heat, and rupture. But if I recycle undercharged cells, bring them back to life, and install a BMS and charge and...
  • Post in thread: Experimental battery pack set-up? Or well tested/functional format?

Hey! I'm about to assemble together a battery pack of 99x18650 (3A) li-ion cells. I am thinking a 3S configuration, and I was thinking to make the pack in three. In other words three packs of 3S 11P, with each a BMS of 40A range. And then connect them all with XT60s. I am fairly new to...
  • Post in thread: Good deal? Used 18650s

right, but when you say that - is that meant to be an answer to my question/clarification on the safety? thanks for hitting me up with replies man, your feedback is gold!
  • Post in thread: Constant buzzing sound 24v / 1200w victron inverter

    Hey, no it's 7S @ 29.4 max
  • Post in thread: New set up. Spark at connectors?

And does that matter even if the solar panels are up with full sun or not? I can't seem to find these resistors like in the video, here locally. Someone mentioned something about a string of lights as alternative-- how would that set up look like? Any clues? Cheers!
  • Post in thread: Constant buzzing sound 24v / 1200w victron inverter

Hey! No it does not seems to change at all, depending on any of those factors you listed. Rubber mounting pads-- do you then mean inside the inverter where the transformer coils sit?
  • Post in thread: Good deal? Used 18650s

I don't have any means of testing besides a voltmetre btw -- which I know isn't considered testing per say. As of now I don't have the means to invest in such equipment, and intend to go ahead with what I have available. So at the end of the day I guess I'll see if I can check individual cell...
  • Post in thread: 2 sec short circuit - problem? NCR18650Bs

Alright so for 1 cell at a time in charging mode, it kind of serves the same function, right? I mean after 4.2V is reached, it cuts the charge going into the cell - am I right? In the case my conclusion above is correct; I suppose my only concern would be for it to deceed below 2.5V - In which...
  • Post in thread: Maximizing capacity Question!

Thanks for your reply! How great is the loss of using a voltage converter? I think I will go for 98cells in a 7s14p formation, so 24V 42AmpH. The cells are rated at 2C, so if I have understood everything correct, my BMS should handle at least 84 continuous amperes (3Ah x 14 x 2C) , correct?
